One way to look at it is -when you are near the bottom you don't have far to fall.
Caldwell has been in a depression for a few years the rest of the US is just now catching up with us.
caldwell is the part of the totem pole below the ground. Be of cheer we have google.

Yes, Caldwell's unemployment rate hit 14.6%. What happened to the "Google effect"? Our commissioners and all you Google lovers said that Google would save us, bring in other industry, and put us all to work. Also, the town of Lenoir said the "Google effect" was why the Lenoir Mall was purchased. What happened to the big plans for the Lenoir Mall?

The Google effect is a myth.

Think about it. Google , One of the worlds top leaders in the internet/pc related field. How many locals do you think is qualified to work there? 95% of the adult population in this area wears camouflage hats/shirts/boots everywhere. Its like they have nothing else to wear. can you imagine some Executive , with years of college and more education than anyone within 100 miles doing interviews with the locals. It would be embarrassing.

Exactly my point. That's why the "Google effect" is a myth. What made our local leaders think that Google was the big fix for our problems?

The local leaders did not think that it would help any "Normal" people in this area , Regardless of what they said. Google pays taxes , BIG money to the county and state. Thats just about where it ends. Google Helps the county. "The county" = "the big wigs" ....Its good for everyone except the normal folks. Its not bad for any of the locals , Its just that it doesn't have a real effect either way on the local people. Most of the locals are just fine living in a single wide trailer , With no ambitions of doing anything meaningful. And all these guys coming in from out of state or country know this.

P.S., There is Nothing wrong with living in a trailer.(I used to). But One needs ambition/Goals to move out at some point and move up in the world. You shouldnt ever be "Content" in that situation...Theres a better way.

Sounds to me like you are ashamed of where you come from boy. Hold your head up . Google intimidate you that much? You think the average IQ at google is above 120 good luck with that. You shouldn't ever sterotype anyone for the way they dress or speak,....think Sam Walton.

I dont "Come from here" , Sorry if i stereo typed you.
Ashamed and embarrassed is two total different things mate. Who in there right mind , Running a multi-million dollar company would hire over a certain percent of this areas jobless? The factory's took advantage of young people many years ago. Promising them good pay for the rest of there life if they come to work before even graduating high school. now the young have grew up , Factory's have left town(or country) and for all the folks that didn't get an education , Well they are kinda screwed. Im sorry if I speak the truth. Find out how many people in Burke county over 35 that are looking for jobs that has at least a HS diploma. You will be hard pressed to do so. Its not my opinion , Its fact.

With the locals? Sounds like alot of folks to me. 95% of us locals wear camo and hats..actually their called ball caps not hats. You should never judge a person by their wealth or education to do so is to be very shallow and Not Much of a thinker.

I do not and have never judge anyone/everyone simply on that Criteria.
I was Born in a Very Poor Coal Town Community in Backwoods WVA. I know what its liked to be Judged Buddy. I lived in some of the dirtiest/Nastiest places you could imagine..Ive been incarcerated more than one time for days/weeks/months.For doing bad things. Am I proud hell no , I was(WAS) a kid that Had no Guidance at all from 11 -18. So when I got to be an adult in the real world I didnt know how to act or what to do.Ive not had a nice adult life by any stretch of the imagination ...its taking me years to help myself understand what a mature adult should act like. I now Have dreams/Ambitions/Goals. So im sorry when The majority of the population in this area is content on doing Menial things there whole life that never amount to much of nothing vs. taking a chance, having balls to TRY be something that everyone will look up to them for in the end. I never judged everyone...Just in general...Im sorry if I was rude.

Thank you , Not for taking up for me. But for having some reason of thought behind your statements. I realize that everyone is different. All I expect is Fairness and decency. Im sorry if I offend anyone. People take there self way to seriously. I dont mind being made fun of...It all fair and good. All I ask is that if you have a statement to make about something , Just have enough common sense to Verbally back it up.
Dont just say something like "So and So does Such and Such" without giving and decent argument to back it up. I want to here a different Opinion sometimes...Convince me of something...Make a strong argument about something And I will listen with both ears...But , If you make unfounded statements I will say so...Thats the Joy of living in America. Peace.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Leo

Even though you usually pride yourself on being the strong silent type, love has a way of unlocking your tongue. The words coming out of your mouth may be familiar, but your sense of timing makes all the difference right now. Keep in mind that you never know how a risky gesture will work out, although you can always hope for the best. When in doubt, take the more cautious path.
