Rex prides himself in being the only yankee nixxer left in the area. He doesn't want any competition.

Calm down Rex. I am coming to the area for a good job and to spend my money from my good job in that area. You see how that works, I will help bring money to your community. Hell ya never know I might even buy a house and hire someone to cut the grass. Thanks for those who are trying to help me out by answering my question. Are there any areas to stay away from?

We have been circling the drain here in Florida. Here we come Hickory. Glad to hear you have a job you are comming _to_. As others have pointed out the employment situation here is, shall we say, lacking. Having grown up in Hickory, moved away and saw "the world", and returned to the area, I can honestly say the Hickory area is no better or worse than many other places I have been. The area has much to offer. As with any place you just have to find what you are looking for as it probably will not come looking for you.

Len in MA wrote: Can you give me any info on some nice new home developments in Hickory? Try St Stephens School District. Be prepared for gangs and drugs at any of the high schools. There are many positives for our county. However, we do have a high unemployment.rate. City government as well as County government are all trying to address these issues.

Len in MA wrote: My wife and I will be relocating to Hickory in a few months. We're looking to buy a home in the area. What neighborhoods are preferable in the $250K range? Looking for a nice residential neighborhood, safe, fairly close to shopping and recreational areas, lake, etc. Where should we begin to look? Also, what companies are in a hiring mode right now? Looking for manufacturing management positions. Please feel free to jump in with your thoughts or comments regarding Hickory, etc. Thanks Len Its a good place to relocate!!!!
