since ks_referee giddily types away and talks about everyone here in town, why don't we talk a little about him? the bloated, crazy, anti-hiawatha doofus cannot keep his mouth from flapping in the breeze about city government, how nobody helps his neighbors, etc. who is ks_referee, and how did he get to this sad, sad state in which he hates all city operations? I mean really, who hates the pool? i think he just hates it because he can't get into his trunks anymore. and the RV park? why would someone waste so much energy on hating the RV park? maybe his pipeliner boytoy left.

WOW! Spoken like a true weakminded, brainless moron! You people that sit in your recliner all day sucking down bud lights, and contibuting absolutely nothing to society, don't like KS Ref. because he actually researches a topic before discussing it, and therefore knows what he's talking about, unlike most of you idiots that get on here and have no clue whatsoever what you're talking about. He never said he didn'tlike the pool, but rather the idea of the city dumping a lot of money every year into something that not only doesn't bring in any money, but takes a loss. Unfortunately, you don't have the ability to understand what you're reading, or you would've known that. You also can't stand the fact that he speaks out anytime the local government, or law enforcement agencys don't do the job they're supposed to do. It's actually our obligation as citizens to "police" these entities to ensure there is no misuse of authority, or mistreatment of the public. It just upsets people like you when someone does actually do it, because you know the reallity is, that you're just too lazy, and/or too scared to do it. If you have nothing better to do than to critisize someone who takes a stand on issues in the community, than please just stay off here and pop open another cold one and do the only thing you're any good at....NOTHING!!

Why don't you tell us exactly what you have done to "get out and do what you (I) think will help)?

Who in their right mind would defend the ignorant ranting undermedicated KS_Ref. This man is a sad little anti society meglomaniac. He believes he is far superior to the rest of us as he is so intelligent and in the real world things are not perfect. Life takes give and take and people have to work together and get along. If this nut ever left his home and interacted with people he could be a part of the productive society.

Yo momma and Hooterville can do no better than to get on here and resort to the childish act of name calling just because they don't agree with someone, and the sad truth is that in their tiny little brains, they actually believe they're typing something intelligent. Sad, sad, people.

I don't hate Hiawatha or any other city. There were a couple, now former, city employees in the past that I disliked, but I never publicly said a single word about them.

It is true that I am not a fan of most government. The only reason I am not a fan is because I believe most government has warped into something very abusive and nearly totalitarian which is not what the founders of this country envisioned when the country was formed. I believe the drastic power grabs have severely afflicted all forms of government here in the United States from the federal government all the way down to the local levels of government including here in the City of Hiawatha. I am not singling out Hiawatha with that statement, rather I am including Hiawatha in the problems that have developed in government throughout this great nation.

I think Hiawatha is a wonderful place. But I think SOME (not all) of the elected officials and personnel in higher positions have legacy building agendas, social engineering agendas, social class prejudices, and/or they lack the ability to refrain from spending the citizen's hard earned money for their acheiving utopian ideas.

I honestly wish someone else would do what I do, take on the fights that I take on, because frankly, I am tired of the constant abuse I get when I try to inform others of the laws and of the system. I'm not any smarter than anyone else here. I just care enough to take the time to find out what the laws say. I use to go to City Commission meetings, but I quit going after the indirect threat was communicated to me that I would be thrown in jail if I spoke out again in a city commission meeting.

I don't want to be in charge of anything. I am NOT a good leader, and really, I am NOT a very good people person. Heck... I tend to gravitate toward the negative because I personally find it easier to spot the errors rather than to envision the potential. It is a fault of mine that I openly acknowledge, but at the same time it is also a strength of mine. I don't know how to motivate others, and I really don't want to know how. I just kinda expect that everyone should care enough to stay informed and know the laws for themselves.

I don't know why anyone here would think I am bad-mouthing the city, or any other form of the government by my having opined on things I see wrong. There are many strengths this city has, but to be honest, I expect the city to have strengths and I expect them to offer these strengths and benefits to everyone because it's their job. That's why we pay them with our tax dollars.

I would much rather be like many... just one of the folks that sits back & doesn't make waves... just does their thing & gets along... but that's not who "I" am. I wish I could have a carefree attitude, not concerned with the actions and inactions of our government at all levels... but it has been that kind of complacency that has enabled the abuse, over taxation and downright corruption citizens get from all levels of their government.

I just can't remain quiet any longer. I haven't been able to for quite some time. I don't want the problems associated with challenging the situations I point out & fight, but I can't sit back, doing absolutely nothing at the same time expect it to fix itself. If not me, then who?

Who among you cares enough to stay informed, or will take the time to actually do just a little research so you aren't just opining from a position of ignorance? I don't want to do what I do, but what are my choices? Can I count on you to research & inform others? For some reason I am unwilling to hold my breath on that one.

The last thing I have ever meant to do here was cause disharmony, yet with many of my posts it seems as if they are received like a dagger, piercing through the soul's of many on here. That's not what I want. I am sorry if the way I come across causes you to take me that way.

But then again, that's my thoughts.

KS....I gotta admit, I appreciate and understand your frustrations and do agree with most of what you typed in this thread.
But, I think you are preaching to the wrong crowd. Take a look around this pathetic dump of a town. Go to Walmart and look around. Look at the run down homes, junk in yards, filthy faces and toothless grins. Do you really think "THEY" care? Oh hell no. Not as long as they get their government check and the Department of Human Services doesn't take their snotty nosed kids away because they are amped up on meth.
Your words seem true....but you are wasting your breath.

Speaking taxation....what taxation? Once again, look around. What taxes do most of these people pay? Income? HA! They don't work! Property? HA again! Most live in dumpy rental homes ( that the government pays for also )...if they did own the home, taxes on these falling down dumps is close to nothing. Sales tax? Yea...I suppose...but then again, that is paid for with the government money they steal from my pocket....so...NO TAXES...why should these lazy fools complain?

You agree with this Punkinhead statement?

"The only reason I am not a fan is because I believe most government has warped into something very abusive and nearly totalitarian"

Ever hear of Iran or North Korea. One might even want to use a dictonary.

A totalitarian government is a country run with only one political party, like China, or North Korea. It generally means that the population is excluded from the political process, and any form of dissent is met with force. The government can prevent people from doing anything including leaving the country.

Good job at making his point for him! Thats exactly what our government has become. Whens the last time you were allowed to participate in the political process? Let me guess....at election time, right? Do you really think the popular vote decides who gets into office? Yea...get ahold of the electorial college and ask them! Try practicing your constitutional right to assemble and protest, and see if thats not met with force.

Most of the types of governments you people are so against have been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and have worked. The United State's idea of democracy is still in its infantcy, and it already has failed. Most forms of government can work, if the powers that be are not corrupt. The only form of government I am 100% totally against is a Theocracy, the masses should not be controlled by the religious views of a few.

I've come to the conclusion that the people that get on here and resort to acts such as name calling(Punkinhead), and get upset about someone speaking out against the U.S. government are the numerous welfare junkies in the area. I mean, they dont want anyone talking bad about the people that are signing their monthly paychecks, right?

How many times has the electoral college want against the popular vote?

And via definition since you seem to think we live in North Korea
Please inform me

1. What single political party runs the country?
2. Is the population entirely excluded from the political process?
3. Is ANY form of dissent met with force?
4. Are you barred from leaving the country or living within 1000 feet of a school or daycare?

OK, I guess either I wasnt clear, or you cant read. I never stated that our government was totalitarian, I, in fact, refered to it as a democracy. My point was the same as KS_Ref's, that the government in this counry is corrupt, from the Federal all the way down to the city and local governments, and that it is in fact the obligation of the American people to police these officials and agencies, and to speak out when they do become corrupt, and my concern is the same as his...that the American people have become too scared, lazy, and contempt to do so.

I've never blamed the government for the poor condition of this country. In fact, I've always blamed the people for allowing the government to let it get this bad.
