If you don't think America is on it's way to becoming a third world country in about 20 years, think again.

This nation is scr#wed BIG time. South Florida & Southern California are harbingers of what is to come for the rest of the country. I live in South Florida it is definitely a 3rd world country. Not only are the illegal immigrants unwilling to learn English, they're unwilling to assimilate at ALL, demanding entitlement at every level. They're leeching parasites & politicians are unwilling to address the issue, preferring to pretend it doesn't exist. I have to keep my roof clean of mildew, or I am cited by Code Enforcement, but there is no restriction on how many people can reside in one residence. Just try to figure that logic out. I can't wait to retire in a couple of years to get the h*ll out of here & leave the asylum to the inmates.

I find it interesting to see that you interviewed very few of the actual Latin Americans who live in Miami and everyone interviewed have the same distorted view that this is an English speaking country. I wonder if you would write this story about Chinatown in NY or any other ethnically centered community. That the Hispanic Community has come to dominate Miami is a direct result of bigotted English-speaking people who don't think it's that important to learn someone else's language. News flash: English is not the most important language in the world. Miami has become a Hispanic community by your choice to leave and not adapt to a bilingual nation not by elitism of Hispanics.

I can understand medical and police being bilingual but, other than that immigrants should have to learn english. Not being able to get a job because you are an american that only speaks english is ludigrous. Of course we are talking Florida here...they can't do anything right.

Applying that logic, then I ought to get busy learning Chinese, Russian, Yiddish, French, Italian, Spanish, German (high & low), Creole, etc. If I moved to someone else's country, I would learn their language. I would also work hard to support myself and show my gratitude to my adopted country, like the original Cubans who moved to Miami. I would not be an elitist, self-entitled parasite like 98% of the illegals.

Abner Garcia, one question, did we go to you or did you come to us? As Neighbor said, we are a melting pot or at least we used to be, and that means there are loads of different nationalities and thus languages all coming together in America. It only makes sense that we would aspire to a "Common" language so we could all interact with one another. I used the term melting pot, and in reality it is a term that is not used any longer because of peoples' attitudes these days where they do not assimilate and become Americans, but instead hold onto their culture and their ways and now expect Americans to come their way, not the other way around. Guess what, this is the tip of that proverbial iceberg.

If i went to france, i would have to speak to them in french. If i went to china, i would have to speak chinese. If i went to germany, i would have to speak german. Yet when someone comes to the US, the citizens are expected to cator to the visitor and learn their language. GIVE ME A BREAK. Politicians in this country are weak.

Well know how "bloody" well that went. Right? As for a common language, what do you think all the Spanish speakers are doing, aiming for? Get used to it!

Lol bringing up indians , I hada good laugh on that one. If you still see usa the same as when we first formed you have issues <,< When I was in hawaii I had 2 friends that dint speak english, we still got along , hung out, played games. Language is only a barrier if you want it to be. On another note , I think sign language would be a good all around language for everyone to learn no ?

After hundreds of years of people from all over coming here and learning English, we're going to switch, as a country, to Spanish? Not in your lifetime, buddy. Lawmakers are going to grow some balls way before that. As another poster pointed out, if I moved to China, Germany, or Norway, I'd have to first, do it legally, and second, learn the language. I wouldn't think of breaking their laws, as millions of our southerly neighbors have done to us. Not sure what you are smoking, but by all means, carry on.
