I am really sad to see that my former employer is going under. I have some family that work there and know a lot of great people that this is going to affect. I worked there for several years until the economy resulted in my layoff. They had a decent management team and great work force and I really feel for them all. I have quite the opposite opinion of the Lyons family. When I still worked there I had participate in the laying off of dozens of people. After the end of a really awful day of telling dozens of people that today was there last. I see Roger's (lyons)wife ride past the plant in a Limo heading for yet another shopping trip in New York City. What a slap in the face. This is the same woman who collected a hefty salary and never stepped foot in the office. ever. The daughter is no better. She made short order of running the cabinet business into the ground and pissing off everyone she came into contact with. Oh by the way all of you former Penn Lyon folks, she collected two salaries. This all the while they weren't paying your insurance premiums.

I'd like to hear from some others who used to work there on their thoughts.

I too worked at Penn Lyon for many years. I saw those checks going out to family that never set foot in the place. I also saw that the current "Chief Operating Officer" had purchased a Hummer and Mercedes shortly before he started laying people off. I can't help but wonder if those were bought on the company dime. And after Katrina, we started getting calls to build homes and he refused to even speak to them. The three current big shots just had to have I Phones. And before anything else was paid, they had to make sure their dues for the country club was paid as well as the company credit card. I know that the women at there were all treated like second class citizens. If Dave or Roger ever made a pot of coffee, I never saw it. "That was womens work".

I also am a former Penn Lyon employee. Fortunately I got out in time on my own terms. What an about-face the company made in the short four years I was there. When I started the company was pretty organized and it ran pretty well with the foundation of long time employees who were overseeing daily operations. Then slowly Dave either got rid of people (and sometimes it was simply because he didn't like them)or made things so difficult for them that they left on their own. With each person that left it made it more difficult for our customers (who already loathed Dave, by the way) to continue to do business with Penn Lyon. Dave lied - ALOT! To customers and to employees alike. He single handidly ran the place into the ground and Mr. Lyons just stood there with his back turned and left it happen. I am so very sorry to the people that remain there. I hope you all find something soon. I promise there is something out there for each and everyone of you. God Bless! PS. May Dave get his just desserts some day!!

Would have been nice for Penn Lyon to pay the set crew for a set done in February. They were paid the money by the builder but never paid the money to the set crew. All Jim Cicero did was tell one lie after another.

I am amazed it took Dave Reed this long to run that company into the ground. They have been crippled for a long time. Unfortunately employees and former employees(like myself) of Penn Lyon paid the price for his negligence and Roger Lyons decadence.

maybe Dave Reed will end up like Bernie Madoff, in jail, for running his modular home ponzi scheme. using money from new sales to pay for materials and subcontractors on old sales and making the banks believe he was making money. He should just man up and learn to tell the truth and do his time.

To all from the PennLyon Family. I worked their till the very last day and I can tell you it wasnt pretty. But for all I'd like to add some insite into every thing. Their was alot of things the old man didn't know. Their was alot of things that were hid from the family and believe me Dave Reed and Chris just might get their final deserts. Dave has had to sell his hummer and new mercedes. I really laughed at that. I heard he was trying to open his own housing company and I just chuckled. Last week I heard Excel hired him and I laughed histerically. Way to go Excel! You already build a piece of shit and now you're going for the gold! LOL But to all a piece. The family deserved what they got because they were family. You would do the same for your wife and kids. But in the end Dave flew the plane straight into the concrete. And he'll do it again. I spoke to Roger the other day and boy does he know how much of a snake dave is now. To little, To late. Their is something out there for all of us. Three people are interested in Pennlyon and why shouldn't they be. Classy office and Classy people. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and be thankfull for what you have. Dave Reed is gonna get a little visit from the IRS soon and that's christmas wish enough for me...LOL

I know that this is an old post, however, let me set you STRAIGHT! First of all...I have never seen a limo that you can see into the windows, They are always tinted...you must have exray vision!!! WOW! My mother has never taken a limo to NYC to shop for the day...especially when the company had lay offs!! We as a family were very upset and concerned for all employees when we had lay offs at the plant. Second of all, I don't know where my second pay check went! I never received two pay checks. Can this person tell me where my other pay check has been going?? As far as running Penn Craft Kitchens into the ground I think you better take a look at who came into the picture...who was the third stock holder? MMMMM Dave Reed??? Oh by the way...Penn Craft Kitchens never closed until the day that Penn Lyon closed their doors. On a last note, I feel that blogs are great but lets get the facts straight and not just post what you think you know...

Well since you are PennLyon family, you should be ashamed that you took money from the builder and used it for your own purposes and didn't pay it to the set crew who it was supposed to be paid to. We are not a big corporation where we get a paycheck and screw others. We are a small sole proprietorship. So that money that you used for your own purposes would have helped us put food on our table. I hope your are happy!

to the penn lyon family,Debb, i never saw your fathers seeing eye dog at the office,so he was not blind. if i were you and you father ,your family should take some blame for taking money that wasnt yours to live on. you may have felt bad when the doors closed, but you did not have any problem treating the employees like shit when they were open. maybe for Christmas the IRS will be visiting your family and the Reeds too.

I bought my first modular home as a builder from Penn Lyon and specifically Roger Lyons in 1988 and continued to enjoy my business relationship with the Lyons Family and Penn Lyon for a number of years. Business took me elsewhere and for a period I stopped building modular homes. But when I went back I immediately contacted first Roger and then Scott Lyons and always enjoyed the product and the service. I am shocked and saddened to hear about the closing and hope and pray that all recover, including the Lyons family. I am also sure they each were heartbroken when they were forced to lay-off first and then finally put the key in the lock. I wouldn't be too quick to judge anybody in these God awful times. We should count our blessings, appreciate all the good times when we all made money and just come to realize that those times can still be part of our fond memories. Don't be so quick to point fingers because a some point the fingers may start pointing back. I wish you all well.
