City of Crystal Springs reacts to black couple's wedding banned from Baptist Church

What a shining example this is setting for the world. Is this how the church fufills its obligation to the great commission? What is sad is that this church runs a Kindergarten program. I wonder what those children are being taught.

My daughter attended that kindergarten program years ago. It was a God send. We were new to the deep south and the transition was difficult. I can assure you she harbors zero ethnic animosity. She did her graduate studies at Jackson State after USM.

Comparing a single judgement error on behalf of the Pastor to the quality of the childcare and early education is a low blow.

Well, all I can say is I'd be so embarrassed to be a member of that church...and that "minister" needs to find another calling; apparently he's more likely to be led than to lead--and he really needs to rethink what a true Christian position on this would be; what a hypocrite!. By the way, I'm glad Justice's daughter got out with her open mind intact, but really, what point is there in mentioning her colleges of choice?

I was appalled when I heard that once again, my home state made the news with something that is embarrassing. Everytime Mississippi is in the news, it's usually something bad and at the heart of it is Racism. It also didn't surprise me.

I left home in 2001 for this very reason. I went to Mississippi College, a Southern Baptist college for about 2 years. I knew good-and-well that my being Black would keep my career and call to Music Ministry from moving forward in Mississippi. Being a classically trained Pipe Organist and Choral Conductor, I specialize in Classical style Church Music. I mean things like anthems and oratorios by Bach, Handel, Beethoven, etc...the style of Music commonly heard and performed in mostly White churches. I wasn't going to let those churches in Mississippi keep me from doing the Lord's work. I knew that no White church would ever have me...a Black Woman...leading their Music program. So, I left and have been much happier ever since.

Keep it up Mississippi. Keep it up. Keep making news in a negative way.

Churches also have to know that it is stuff like this that makes people NOT want to go to church. All over the country, churches keep wondering whey they are not getting new members,why people keep leaving, and why people don't go to church, especially younger people...and especially predominantly White churches. It doesn't matter if its a Baptist church, Presbyterian church...its still CHURCH. When things like this happen, people have the opportunity to use it as a valid reason they don't want to go to church. And it hurts "The Church" as a whole. It makes people think that EVERY church and EVERY denomination is bad and practicies ways that are no Christ-like. So, more progressive denominations like the Episcopal Church or the Congregational Church, or even United Methodists have to go out and tell people that good old saying that the "opinions of those people are not the opinions of everyone"

Judging by your post, you are a little racist yourself. A little presumptive, too. Your kind is the most dangerous to society with your self-righteous platitudes. Look in a mirror before you judge others.

This is what happens when you let politics in church. The pastor needs to grow a pair and reveal the 4 or 5 "deacons" that objected. Better yet let these holier than thou pos's come forward and show your true colors. ooops we know your true colors white with a yellow streak.

The Old South will always be the Old South - Southern Exposure couldn't be more so. He takes great umbrage against the "uppity" black church organist who left, rather than stay "in her place" beneath the Southern Exposures who dominate Mississippi. Congratulations to her on her courage. Too bad she had to leave her home to get away from those attitudes, but then, the Old South will always be the Old South.
