Well, you can *try* to keep from being harassed by the HPD, but I can tell you that I, and 2 members of my family have been tailgated and harassed by the HPD while going under the speed limit. Each time, there was no ticket issued, so contrary to some nay-sayers here, this was not harassment warranted by criminal behavior.

Hendersonville is a great place to live, the only problem I have seen recently is a growing drug problem. It seems that the apartments are filling up with people buying and selling drugs. I notice people meeting all over New Shackle to deal drugs
and most are coming in and out of the apartments
on New Shackle. This has been a good place to live but it seems that the parents are giving their teen agers money each day and not knowing that they are going down the street and buying pills. The reason the dealers are moving here is because the parents are making it too easy for a drug dealer to make a living in Hendersonville because their precious baby needs $50 a day (to buy pills)and mommy and daddy don't even have a clue.
Just saying

My wife and I moved our family here about 4 years ago from the Missouri Bootheel and I am not sure what all these other posters are talking about for sure, but the only time either of us have been pulled over was deserving on our part. My wife was pulled over for her blinker light not working and was ticketed for have out dated plates. There is a huge police presence here and I love it because I believe it has helped to keep down the amount of crime that could have been here. I am not saying there aren't problems here, I agree with there are a LOT of preppy's there is a "better than you are" attitude from some, but over all, it is really a nice place to live if you can afford it...

I have lived her for 10 months, and Hendersonville PD is the most money hungry dept I have ever wittnessed. With many friends in law enforcement, I have seen great, ok and bad depts. But by far this is the worse. They are sneaky and are not serving or protecting. And with their unmanned cars dotting the scenery just asking to be hit, or cause a wreck. Or their bicycle cops using Radar, to their female nazis hunting out subdivisions to write tickets to people coming home from work, because they "Want to make a presence" they are useless. And the great thing about this is WE PAY FOR IT! I love the town the neighborhoods and the people but these are not cops, they are oportunists!

we can fix it along with our police department focusing more on the crime and not ticketing all the soccer moms for doing 3 miles over the speed limit or ticketing for a damn rolling stop. Its time to clean it up before it is too late! Thanks
LOL! Soccer moms go a whole lot faster than 3 miles over, my mom was one of them. I ride a motorcycle and I was almost killed by someone who actually believed that you don't have to stop at a red light to turn right. He actually rolled his window down and said you don't have to stop at the red light after he nearly rearended me. I'm pretty sure "red" means stop and I'm pretty sure the STOP signs in Tennessee are the same as all the other ones in the United States. Its the law, its your fault when you break it and get caught. I love how everyone wants the police to be selective and only enforce the laws that they're not breaking. Hilarious!

I have to agree with you, Lexi! I see people driving past me on Nashville Pike (I'm going the speed limit) and people are passing me continually. I haven't gotten a ticket yet for going the speed limit........and I do come to a full and complete stop before I turn right on red or at a stop sign. I haven't gotten stopped for doing that either. Seems to me that those who continually break the law should rather expect to be ticketed. I just fail to see how being ticketed for breaking the law could be called harassment.(And you also might have noticed that those who complain the most about this are also the ones who seem to have the need to express their disdain using vulgarities.) Big surprise. <<headshake>>

In response to everyone who claims to have been pulled over for no reason. Read up on your 4th Amendment rights. Then do a reality check, you're not being pulled over for no reason.

Funny! I have lived in Hendersonville for almost 9 years and I have NEVER had a problem with the police. And yes I do speed--usually only 5 miles over, but it is still speeding--and I haven't been pulled over. Actually, I take that back--I have been pulled over once and was given a warning--and that was over 5 years ago. However, I do know of a speed trap the police set in the park off of Saunders Ferry and several of my friends, senior citizens who never speed, were ticketed and questioned as if they were criminals while they were on their way to a picnic our congregation was having in the park that day. Are the police perfect? No, absolutely not. But like I tell my kids--You don't have to be afraid of the police if you're not doing anything wrong. The police will not give you a ticket for doing the speed limit.

Lived in Hendersonville in 1947 as a young boy i hunted rabbits on land between Indian lake all the way to Walton Ferry Rd. on Walton Ferry there was Horner's Boat dock, and marina also Mr. Horner had a fine restaurant. in the fiftys and sixtys i would fish off his docks, caught a lot of crappie.

as Hendersonville began to grow a lot of the fun things began to disappear the small town atmosphere
also disappeared, the southern accent vanished as well, I don't hear a southern accent any more.
I find a northern accent very irritating and the northern people very cold, i'm up in age now,'but
my memories is all that i have of the Hendersonville that i onced loved as the old saying goes that the way the mop flops.

I also bet you used to use the "N" word, and burn crosses while wearing bed sheets. I'm sure you discriminate against everyone based on color, and the dialect of their speech. I'm glad Hendersonville is not the Sh*t hole you are describing. Hopefully, your drivers license has already been revoked, as you are probably next up for running over 30 people at the Walmart.

Wow. I am almost at a loss for words. There is really no need for such anger..........I actually had to re-read the post you replied to, Hero of the North, to see precisely what "set you off." You presume things which you couldn't possibly know (about the author of the post to which you replied) and quite frankly, your reply makes you look 100 times worse than you're making him/her out to be.
While I agree that Hendersonville has changed, even since we moved here in 1983, it hasn't changed THAT much. It's just gotten larger, but I love living here and wouldn't move for anything. We made Hendersonville our home. I personally know and know OF many other corporate transferees who have lived all over the United States who after transferring here have left their jobs in order to find another job that would allow them to stay here. We did that! That says a lot about Hendersonville and the Nashville area in general.
Sure, we have a lot of "Northerners" who live here. I say, so what? Everyone I've met who moved here from the North has been a pleasure to know. I have lots of neighbors who have moved here from New York and you couldn't ask for better neighbors. THEY know and WE know Hendersonville, even with its own issues (every city has issues) is a wonderful place to raise a family and to live. After living here 26 years I have never EVER met anyone who doesn't love it here.
So, "Hero of the North", please don't be so quick to judge and make such egregious assumptions. There ARE some older folks who might think that Northerners are abrupt or rude sometimes but that particular generalization is not nearly as bad as the the assumption you made about the author of the post you replied to. You're stereotyping as well and the anger just is not at all flattering, to you OR to those you feel the need to "defend." Your anger, in my opinion, is just not at all warranted considering the source.
Anyway, try to have a nice day and enjoy this beautiful weather!!!!

It is not a bad place to live. Vietnam hwy is crazy in the morning if you work in nashville. The other thing that I am not use to is the sirens on all the time. When any emergency vehicle is dispatched it has the siren on until the it reaches where going. This is regardless of time of day or absence of traffic. There will not be another car in sight, the siren is on. Must be a local code or something.

Main street was Gallatin Road, 2 lanes of concrete. Bank of Hendersonville and BF Myers were on the corner(s) of Walton Ferry and Old Shackle with a church on the other (library in the basement, two carts of books) and Freed's Hardware on the opposite corner. Nothing else from there to Adcocks Garage, then to CenterPoint BBQ and then nothing from there to Tradewinds Mkt in Madison. All of it farmland. I think the population of Hendersonville then was 800. The "city limits" went out to Plumlee on Walton Ferry and the railroad tracks and Durham Lumber on Old Shackle Island. Yeah, it has changed a little over the years. But still a great little town.
