With all the problems facing our nation, this seems like a petty issue. I would bet money that this modular home is built better than any home in that neighborhood. Stop dwelling on petty issues people!

Ah, okay I get it now...

Not In My Backyard?

I think people should have the freedom to build and live in a chicken shack if that's what they want. I see no problem with modular homes.

Not true. Modular homes depreciate in value each year just like a car. Site built homes do not (unless the economy turns down. Like it or not, modular homes lower the value of the surrounding property especially if there there are multiple modular/mobile homes around. That's just a real estate fact and not meant to put anyone down.

yeah, but most people who own the high-dollar homes in fairfield glades are transplanted yankees. the majority, in fact. so by default, the majority of the people complaining up there are going to be transplanted yankees, and to be honest I'd just as soon they start dragging double-wides propped up on cement foundations up there for all I care. the story says, plain as day, this ain't illegal in any way, shape, or form. first word out of the first complainer's mouth is "who is responsible and where does the buck stop?" this out the fairfield glade community club (a homeowner's association) so the question answers itself. bring in all the modular homes the place can accommodate. the buck stops with them, and they've allready approved it.

Between a mobile home and a modular. Modulars are just partially assembled off site to save time on the site. They are still 2x6 construction, set on a foundation and not on wheels. If it didn't have cheap vinyl siding, no one would even know. In reality, I haven't seen much difference in price between modular and build on site. It's more for convenience and speed of construction.

and I'll be building on site because I like a more open floor plan, which is hard to find in a modular (since each room is basically a "box")

I agree theres a difference, Big Time.
Technically there is a big difference.
A manufactured home is a mobile home, double wide, trailor, or whatever else you might call it.
These are totally assembled at the manufacturing facility, right down to the toilet paper roll hanger. They are transferred using wheels that are attatched to the steel frame that supports the structure. Today, manufactured homes are built alot better than they used to be. Everything about them is better than it used to be.
An actual Modular home is totally different. Different shells (so to speak) of the house are brought in on tractor trailor trucks. They don't have a steel frame. They have wooden floor joists and the framing is almost identical to a regular home with 2x6 exterior walls, all wood framing, and almost any pitch on the roof that you want.
Modular homes are site built. all the parts are assembled on site and set up on a regular foundation. Once assembled you can't tell the difference between it and a regular home.
There are many different floorplans and they are not all just a plain rectangle, some of them have offsets and different roof lines.

Always but in a restricted neighborhood! This eliminates trash.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Gemini

You're normally pretty canny, but today you're wearing rose-tinted glasses that prevent you seeing what's really going on. There probably isn't much harm in this if your vision is only temporarily obscured, but you could be heading for financial problems if you persist in taking a very idealistic view of a current situation. Be realistic, especially if someone's health or welfare is involved.
