Thank goodness the process finally came to a conclusion. As an owner at The Canyons, I look forward to the certainty that the new owner will proceed with plans to complete the overall project.

I am very optimistic that this will be a great thing for the Canyons. I look forward to all that Talisker will bring to the resort… I am excited.
Now we just need the news that the golf course is going to be built… then I can be ecstatic!

When will the golf course be built?

I wish I knew. I keep hearing that it will happen but it never seems to. I think it would be a really nice addition to the already fun summers here at the Canyons.

Glad it's finally over. Would love to hear some followup on a few questions like:
1- I thought the sale price was 100 million. How did it become 123 million?
2- Any immediate plans for the Canyons
3- "We, along with our team in Park City and The Canyons employees, look forward to unlocking the wonderful potential of The Canyons resort" How about some examples and a timeline. The golf course would be a great start.

My understanding is that the 123 million included 23 million in escrow for resort improvements. I for one am excited about Talisker owning The Canyons. From what I've seen at Empire Pass they are very dedicated to the details and doing things right. I think they are the right owner who is dedicated in making the resort truly World Class. A new chapter in this wonderful resort is taking shape......

I can't wait to hear how the likely stories of how Talisker believes they don't need to play by the same development rules as everyone else. Employee housing, that should come 5 years after your complete the development, and perhaps it would be best to just buy existing low end housing since the supply would then increase - not !
Hmm... maybe everything that has issues will be blamed on ASC...and in due time it will be fixed (read - 5 years after real estate recovers - and there are 10,000 quarter share condos - waiting for the 100% increase in guests.
Perhaps while they are at in the could encourage the local limo services to buy more Escalades to drive everyone in their own vehicle up from the airport since a regular bus service wouldn't be good for the environment.

It sounds like Joe is a little bitter. Perhaps a disgruntled employee or one of those who thinks Park City should still be a mining town in the 21 century. I sure would hate to go through life with such a negative attitude. The real estate market will come back and the Canyons is and will be awesome. Try and take a deep breath Joe, everything will be alright.

Pat, what will you now have to write about? I am sure you can find some more dirt to diss about Talisker. A little one-sided, don't you think?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has noticed that the reporting on the Talisker/Canyons deal has been extremely bias. What ever happened to just reporting the facts? I could understand if it was an opinion piece. I think someone at the Park Record has a beef with Talisker and instead of taking the high road and acting like a professional, they cloud the facts with their hostile feelings. I hope the Canyons the best and I am very optimistic that things will keep getting better.

The funny thing Pat has been the only one to ever write about Talisker.

I wouldn't want to be an owner. High prices. Substandard work. Way behind schedule.

Talisker has never operated a ski resort before, they are a development company, is anyone aware that only 20% of the approved development at the canyons has actually been built, where will the other 80% be and what will it do to our already crowded situation, running ski resorts is not their core business and there is no chance that Talisker will improve on the skier experience, that is just absurd. Plus they are now really extended and will be bankrupt shortly, one lot sold at Tuyhahe since December.

Why would Talisker go through all the trouble of buying the Canyons if they will be bankrupt soon?
Also, with or without Talisker, the Canyons is 20% developed and the other 80% will come even if Vail or someone else were to buy it. There has always been a master plan in place and that plan will go forward no matter who buys (or bought) the Canyons.

Talisker is going to be fine, and I think The Canyons is on the way up. I'm hearing Talisker's first steps will be to improve the on-mountain amenities with new trails, lifts etc... as well as getting the golf course out of the ground by spring. I'm looking forward to it... and if I were a property owner I'd be pretty happy (I may end up being an owner myself soon)

Talisker only paid $50MM in cash. The rest is a note, which in other words is just a promise to pay later. Thats like a guy who cant get a mortgage buying a house and having the seller carry the paper. Pretty sketchy. And yes it is true, Talisker has not lived up to its obligations at DV. That isn't biased reporting. Those are just the facts.

That isn't biased reporting. Those are just the facts. You must not have been reading the news in the Park Record about the Talisker/Canyons deal. The Park Record (or Pat ot whomever) clearly does not like Talikser, which is fine. However, if you call yourself a reporter you should not let your personal feelings slant your reporting. If it were an op-ed piece then of course, let the opinions fly. However, it's not an op-ed peice, it supposed to be providing the reader with just the facts. The Park Record has gone out of its way to make Talikser look bad and that is what is sketchy here. I think the reporter at the Park Record must be a good friend of Griswald to make him so bias.
