I have an opportunity to bring laser tag to Talihina for a few hours. We, Talihina Main Street, would need to sell at least 100 tickets at $15 each to get the equipment for 3 hours. This will be an awesome experience with 18 people playing every 10 minutes on a field with baracades, fog, flashing lights, music and black lights.
What do you think??
Would you like to come play??

lets see 1500 dollars for three hours, with only 18 people playing at a time.
3 hrs = 180 min
180/10 = 18
18 people x 18 (10 minute intervals)= 324 people can play.

Would it be only those who bought tix allowed to play? If so, you would only need 100 people to buy tix. Meaning only 100 people could play in order to be fair. I think its a lot of money. Sounds more of like a private party kind of thing instead of a town kind of thing. Its not something everyone could take part in.

The more tickets we sell the longer we can use the equipment. If we sell over 300 tickets we could do a 2 day rental and accomodate more individuals.
The company is also looking at investing in more equipment to allow more folks to partake.

Because of travel expenses and equipment investment these types of entertainment venues are a little more expensive.
I know my kids have spent this much on lazer tag before.

There again it would leave alot of kids out whoes family couldn't afford it. We need to start being alittle conserative and stop putting pressure on families to spend money when they can't afford it.

I have to agree with 'observer' we need to be more conservative. Plus the average cost of laser tag is $7 to $9 and your $15 ticket is outrageous, it makes one wonder if your getting a hefty cut.

I want more for the children too, but it shouldn't be so costly.

if you sell 300 tickets and can keep it 2 days, then how do you decide who gets to use it. Surely you are not thinking of letting someone use it who hasn't paid. If I buy a ticket for my son, and he gets to play his 10 min then you let someone else play who hasn't paid a dime, before my son gets to go again, I am going to throw a fit. And I'm going to make sure everybody in town hears me. Given the figures above are correct, my son should get to go 3 times. Also how are you going to make sure that 8-9 year olds are not allowed in with the more rambunctous 15-16-17 year olds? Have you given any thought to safety? This is a bad idea. The only way you can make it fair is to front the money, then charge per 10 minute interval at the event. The only way you can make it safe is to make certain times for certain age groups. I think its a bad idea.

I'm curious as to when this event is scheduled, and how close that date is to your children's birthdays. From the sound of things you intend to sell 100 tickets for 324 people to play. So are the 100 ticket payers funding a birthday party for your child scheduled for the last 2 hours of play?

This activity is no different than the inflatables which get brought to town. If the organization sells 100 arm bands to these, they are doing good.
Since you guys don't like my ideas- why don't you get off your butts and do something for the community!

I like the idea if there is rules. Like said above the ones that pay should be the only ones that get to play. Also the age groups. I don't think the older kids should be in their with the younger ones. That is an accident waiting to happen.

Rhonda, How dare you ask the people of this forum to give up $15 for their kids! Then they wouldn't be able to buy that case of beer on Friday or that bag of weed.
Shame on you! It might mean that their kids would have to crawl out of the back seats of their cars or get away from the drugs on the basketball court, laundrymat or school parking lot!

The parents won't even volunteer their time to help out the structured organizations (library, TMS, Chamber, etc), which wouldn't cost them a penny! Why would they spend $15 of their welfare/choctaw money to do something for their kids! Silly Rhonda!

They always degrade you for trying to help & do something positive, but they wouldn't think of HELPING YOU do something positive for their kids.

Standards- Thank you!!!!

When I was thinking of raising money for a park train, one guy said $3 was too high, since he had 4 kids. It is sad that some parents won't invest in some good family entertainment for their kids.
I just spent $20 on taking my grandson to the movies. Sure $5+ was too much for popcorn, but we made a lasting memory.

Unfortunately- Talihina Main Street is going to die if we don't get some new members who are willing to help raise funds and provide volunteer hours for all the FREE activities we provide.

Standards, would you like to join?

Like it- I agree about the age groups. They should be seperated, or at the very least if the little ones want to play with big kids, it should be a family challenge. We could assign groups by age or by family request.

I think you were off when you told people to get off their butts. YOU, Rhonda...YOu personally are the reason most people won't volunteer. Someone offers a few hours and you hit them up for more and more. They explain to you why they can only give so much and you start going on and on about how you sacrifice so much. Yes, you do but other people have different priorities. So you run 2 businesses, do main street, etc. don't push away the help you do get by bitching that a person can only give an hour.

why did you quote me? All I said was that I wasn't going to pay for someone else's kid to play. I think that is more than fair. Why should I pay for any more than my child...so the other parents can still afford their beer or weed. Its not bad if you don't pay you don't play, and if they divide times for the kids, but that was not, from what I read, what the idea was. And yeah $15 dollars is a lot of money, especially if you have 3 kids. If you have 3 kids for that 30 min or so of "family fun" it will cost $45.
It's cheaper to go to the movies.

I never bitch. May feel like it, but I don't stoop to that type of language. I must have personally offended you sometime in the past. For that I am truely sorry.

We have several volunteers that donate an hour or two once a year. WE are grateful for that. Yes, we have lots of activities and unfortunately there are not enough people to be able to call on them only once. If you can't help, you just can't. WE will ask the next person. If you are a business owner in the downtown area, it is my job to inform you of all activities and yes, ask you to help, get involved.

I truely believe, the more you give to a community the more you will receive. This is my personal life motto. It may not be yours and that is ok, but don't put the blame on me for the reason people don't volunteer!!! When you count up the number of people that have volunteered some time in the year, the number is approaching 100. In the past 4 years, over 14,000 have been donated to TMS and downtown improvements. This is more than me and my family. I am one voice of TMS, one employee. The program is run by a board of 12 directors, surely one of them you like. As a grown-up we have to work with folks we don't especially like, but we put our differences aside and get the job done.

Rhonda, it is you at least for a dozen or more people that I can think of on an instance. It is not the 12 board members nor the 14,000 others that recite their life accomplishments to us every time we may say we don't have time to donate. All we hear is YOU stating about your kids, grandkid, 2 jobs, etc. and all that YOU do. Quit singing your own praises, respect people if they say they don't have time right now and be done with it. You going on and on about YOU makes people not want to volunteer for you the next time when they may actually have time.

I applaud you Rhonda. You try and try to put ideas out there. You may get a couple of good comments, but you put up with a lot of crap and mouthy people. I don't know how you have handled that for as long as you have. You never give up and I am happy that we do have someone in this town that cares for the way the town looks and trying to get more family activities. I am sorry for the things you have to put up with, but keep up the good work. And thank you for not giving up on this town.

Well, All I know is you asked "what do you think?", then you got mad when we did not jump right in and go for it. Then you insult those who have answered, I think most were nice with their replies.(with the exception of one.)
If you don't want to know what we think, then why bother to ask us to begin with. Why not just push on through? I answered honestly, would you rather I lie to you then not show up with the ticket money after you have put in all the time. Like I said, if you don't want to know what we think, don't ask.

I have been listening to all of you and to others. I am working with the company to see if I can get them to accept a flat rate and allow us to set a lower price. This is just in the planning stage and will have to be approved by the TMS board. I am going to suggest,$10 tickets which we will insure gets the purchaser 3 plays at 10 minutes each. We could then sell individual games for $5. That way if a family can't afford 3 kids at $10, maybe they could let each child play one game.
I also took " Like It's" idea about seperate age groups.
I did not get mad at the suggestions, but appreciated them. So I made one little-get off your butt comment. That's about as mad as I get.

Tickd- I hope we can work this out so that you and your family will want to come play. Heck- I will even play a round with you and you can shoot me all you like.

I like this a little better, and My son has already said if you all do this he wants to play, and probably my older kids as well. I just don't want to pay for someone else's kid, unless I invited them as my guest. I don't want to feel obligated to those children whose parents refuse to do better for them.

I would volunteer more if I could find the time, but I feel that if I can't volunteer I should support, so that is what I do. I go to the events and try to support as much as I can. It would be nice if I had the time to volunteer, and I appreciate that you find the time to do it, but I just don't have it. So I spend money at the events instead. There are a lot of people like me, who do the same, so please don't bash us for not being able to donate our time, when we know our money is just as helpful.
