I was leaving Schnucks on 67 the other day and I witnessed two cars turn left on red. The camera didn't even flash and they were blocking the intersection.
These cameras either need to get it right or disappear completely.

If the light is red and there already across the line it wont take a picture since they are already passed the line that the sensor sees to take the picture.

Post Dispatch, January 18, 2009: Traffic Cameras Pose a Threat to Motorist Safety Regarding "Arnold defends red-light cameras" (Jan. 7): Numerous studies from academics, various departments of transportation, governments, insurance carriers and motorist advocacy groups show that automated traffic-camera systems present a threat to the safety of motorists. Automated enforcement does not decrease accidents. The most effective ways to prevent the classic T-bone accident that red-light cameras purportedly prevent are increases in yellow light times and larger traffic signals. The surveillance of intersections actually increases accidents. Traffic is safest when it is predictable and consistent. Some drivers behave differently when they are under surveillance. Numerous studies show the placement of cameras correlates with an increase in rear-end collisions. The majority of traffic-camera citations are for people who enter an intersection one-tenth of a second or so after a light turns red. T-bone collisions adhere to a profile featuring accidents far later following the red light. Thus, the lights are ineffective at reducing T-bone collisions and cause injuries and property damage from rear-end collision accidents. While a municipality may have been fortunate enough to experience a decrease in accidents, I urge a closer examination of the statistics. Accidents and fatalities nationwide are down as a result of improvements in automotive safety, a period of increased gas prices (thus lower traffic numbers) and recession-related decreases in driving. Correlation does not imply causation, contrary to the city's contention that automated enforcement improves motorist safety. The motorists of Missouri deserve better. Missouri motorists deserve the protection of trained professional policemen to issue citations in a safe, prudent and humane way. Our motorists simply cannot be made to suffer the replacement of our policemen with robo-enforcement. Jason T. Umbarger | Springfield, Mo.
