i gotta say after watching some of these videos, i find no problem with the cameras. i can honestly say ive never run a red light in my life, and some of these idiots are going so fast down lindbergh when its clearly a red light they deserve a $100 ticket. just my 2 cents.

So if you are one of the people on the video that had an accident, can you use the video for your claim, or court and whatever you would need it for?

Yes and no. The police officer that had to write that report SHOULD book a copy of that video into evidence, and the police officer that had to write that report SHOULD write the person who caused the accident a ticket for failure to yield or whatever infraction caused it. The court proceedings, with the person found guilty after the judge sees that damning evidence, SHOULD be enough for any insurance company to pay up. BUT, insurance companies are in the business of not paying you for what should be rightfully yours. Also, that's a lot of "should's" in all that, just as a heads up. Not all goes to plan, for whatever reason.

Either way, those are fun videos to watch! Cars go crash!!!

If it helps keep people from running red lights...and lets the police do more important jobs...I say more power to them. If I run a red light...I deserve a ticket. They have been doing this in Europe and elsewhere in the country for many years. Same thing for speeding tickets.
And if I ever see an accident where someone runs a redlight at a corner where there are cameras....I will be the first to spot and tell the person who got hit to ask for the tape. Too bad that most people won't even stop and leave their name...as they don't want to get involved.

I thought there was a more recent thread on the subject of red light cameras. But all I found was this one. Last night I was driving east on Lindbergh and while making a left turn onto Patterson Road at Flower-Rama I noticed a flash of light and a couple seconds later I spotted another flash. I had the left turn arrow, so it wasn't a red light. But I was wondering what these flashes of light like the red light cams were? I drove past there this morning and I don't see any cameras on the Lindbergh and Patterson intersection. I would have thought I was too far away from the cameras on Lindsay to see the flash all the way over on Patterson. Anyone have a clue what I saw?

Hi Pethead!! Did you guys have a good xmas?

Red light flashing, a brilliant white light,
It might be alien spacecraft, it might, might, might!!
Flashing through the florissant area at night,
I think even cujo has beholden the sight,
But I'm sure this will cause another fight,
As i ascend to new poetic heights,
Putting my rhymes on cyberspace so tight!!

Hey Orion, my family had a good Christmas. It could have been better if we were all healthier, but I'm not complaining. I hope you and yours had a good Christmas and are all in good health!

It's weird, but as I was writing the original message I was thinking someone would think I had one too many trips to the punch bowl. I've determined that my car must have been at the right angle while turning that I caught the flash from the camera on the post between Patterson and Lindsay that it seemed closer than it was.

The poetry was nicely done
I hope it brought a smile to everyone
I bet even Cujo cracked a smile
and that makes it all worthwhile
this post may seem to have no rhyme or reason
It's just to wish everyone the best this Christmas season

Lindbergh at Lindsey is the light you saw. They would make more money at Lindbergh and Patterson.

Thanks, that's what I thought it might have been. I agree they would rake in more. But I think it may cause more accidents due to the vehicles in the double left turn lanes clearing the intersections before the cameras activated. And we all know there would be bad publicity if accidents caused by people jamming on the brakes and get rear ended on live video. And those trying to squeeze though an intersection rear ending a slow vehicle ahead of them. It could evolve into litigation to have all the traffic cams removed.

I had heard a few months ago we were going to get 3 or 4 more red light cams. If this is true, does the city have to once again open a new bidding process or doe their current contract cover all present and future red light/traffic cameras?

Did anyone catch Tim Green introducing a bill to force cities to put up "timers" to show how soon the light will change??
that's pretty dumb. Next we'll be like the Panama Canal and have "pilots" drive people's cars through Florissant for them.
When the light turns yellow,, unless you're in the intersection, stop. It's not brain surgery.

They have these in Bangkok (and probably other major cities as well), and they use them for their green lights too. I thought it was kind of ingenious when I first saw them, and they did see, useful. But then, traffic in Bangkok is probably close to being the worst in the world.

I made a left turn on Scripps Poway Pkwy with the left turn green arrow and the piece of crap strobe light triggered. Now I have to worry for the next month or two if they are going to try and say there was some type of violation.

I'm not familiar with your camera setups in CA. But here in Florissant and surrounding areas the cameras only snap pictures of violations. If your left turn was on gree yield or left turn signal you should have no problem with expecting a ticket. But at the same time you were making your "permissible" left turn, someone at one point of the same intersection could have made a rolling right turn through a red. In Florissant, if you just slow down and make a right on red, most times it will trigger the camera. Because in Florissant and Missouri, you're only allowed to make a right turn on red after stopping and proceding when it's clear.

This is what may have happened in your instance.

I'm curious to see what happens with me. I stopped completely, for like 10 seconds before turning right at Lindbergh and Dunn/Tayor (I know, not Florissant), there were no other cars around as it was pretty late at night, and the damn thing flashed. I know I stopped before the white line, and I know it was complete. My wife was in the car with me and agrees...and she's never wrong, so I'm told. I dont know of anything that was around that could have caused it to go off but it did. Hopefully they actually review these things.

I was sitting at Lindbergh and Taylor late one night and another car pulled up along side and stopped. We were both well back from the stop lines. When the guy stopped next to me the strobe fired. We both looked at each other and shrugged.

I happen through this intersection quite a bit, and it seems to give the camera fits when it's rainy. I see it flash a lot for Right on Red. I haven't heard anyone pitching a fit about it, so they obviously weed these out.

I am related to someone on Hazelwoods Council. That person said all the tapes are reviewed before any tickets are issued beacuse they have been known to go off at the wrong time.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Gemini

This is a good time to take stock of your actions and the direction you're going in. Are your efforts getting you anywhere or leading you astray and scattering your energy? If you're putting in the work but not moving forward, you're not on track. The old adage 'cut your coat according to your cloth' is good advice. Be simple and purposeful and don't waste time with things that get no practical results.
