You know I have also thought about this.Science don't believe in God or Satan. So some of the mental illness we see today could be possession.

I am also a backslid christian and I myself have often wondered about this same thing. Reading stories from the bible, the one about the man who ran naked and broke chains is one that establishes the foundation of my belief. I believe that a person is not mentally ill but one who is either opressed or depressed from demonic spirits. The bible says that when you are 'with God' that he will give you a sound mind. I could be wrong but until proved otherwise...that is what I believe. I believe that God's plan for his children is that they not worry and that they should not be afraid. In Psalms 94, the bible talks about not being afraid; it speaks of fear and God's protection over his people. Alot of mentally ill patients are afraid of many things and have phobias that are serious to them but silly to others. I have worked with mentally ill patients and you can tell in their eyes who their 'father' is. The eyes are the only opening that the soul has; to me, that is where you can tell about spirits. The spirit world is more real than most would care to admit. I am a believer and even though, I am not in God's will, I know that it is because of him that I live each day. Praise be to God. I am not a christian and I do not praise God because I am worthy but because he is. I know I rattled on, but I hope this helps you.

there are a lot of mentally ill people...those who want to kill are just plain evil...scysophrenic people are possessed and need spritual healing ...thats why psychiatrists can't cure most mental illness .

Each situation is unique. Mental illness does not mean demon possession. I do believe in both. I do believe however that labeling every mentally I'll person as possessed is a huge mistake. The mind is very complicated and deals with the chaos of the world around us in many different ways. If you ever come across a truly demon possessed person and the demons/ evil chooses to reveal it/ themselves you will never have to question if their is a difference. I can say if you are faced with that evil and you once knew God and are no longer a child of His it will know and you would have every reason to be afraid. If you are a child of God it will recognize that as well and God will protect His own through the blood of our Savior.

i posted this and maybe im wrong but as backslider..i honestly believe that some depression is not always of the devil it says in the bible that god draws nigh to a broken spirit..wich means he draws close to the ones who have wounded and broken hearts..in other words but that is just a better explanation and some people that are depressed pray more than those who are happy and have a clear mind..because if you think about it why would you pray when you really have nothing wrong..compared to if you were dealing with a depressing situation..you would pray all the time asking for help...now with the illness of skytsofrintic..i believe that certain things can cause the paranoia of that..you could be tortured bye a parent, husband, boyfriend, but when you just grow the illness or something triggers it than yes i do in some sense believe that it is so the opression or possession as said bye someone earlyier...but i also believe when you are even backslide i still beleve you are a child of gods and that god is still waiting on you and he loves you and when you do wrong you just make him sad hes doesnt hate you..god loves us all.

I don't know anything about mental illnesses but I do know that my mother-n-law thinks that I am crazy just because I do have minor issues with anger when it comes to her, and she does cause me to get more than a little angry at times. Now I don't think that I am possessed or crazy! She makes it out like I am the worst person ever and that I am a nut case to anyone and everyone that will listen! The thing is..she LOVES to push my buttons! If she wasn't such an ass and didn't run her smart mouth so much I wouldn't go off on her!Now on the other hand ...I really think she has a problem. I just don't know what it is! She can't stand to see the people around her happy at all, and will say and do anything and everything that she can do to make them miserable!

Being a nut job has nothing to do with God. I'm sorry. It's mostly due to the person being messed up in the head. That's like saying a person is gay because they're not one with God. People are what people are, no matter if they go to church or not. I know people that are real crazy and go to church. It's an health issue, that's all.

yes i would like to agree like said earlier god gives us a sound mind and with a sound mind there is no room to think nor do craziness..and then also you made a good point but if you were with god you surely would not be gay...i have heard preachers preach that admitting any sickness is letting the devil in because most mental illness causes you to stray away from god..there are only a handful of people who have knowledge enough to go to the lord in those times...because the devil wants to see no happiness at all.but some people growing up are mentally tortured by others and it also trains there mind to be that way...i guess its however you look at it,but i do know that doctors can not cure a mental disorder they can only treat..and god can heal anything

I am also a backslider. I was just starting to go back to church (though I never stopped believing or praying) when my mother died. I had to go to Hazard for a week for the funeral and to get her affairs in order. After coming back here, I started having anxiety attacks and depression. I became so bad I went to a doctor for help. The first medicine they put me on made me a 100 times worse. I became so full of hate, furious anger, bitterness, suicidal thoughts, tired and wanting to sleep all the time. I changed my medicine after finding out from my wife that these were side effects of the one I was taking. I felt so much better knowing that I wasn't loseing my mind. But, I don't honestly feel any better now. The doctor even relented and gave me a mild Xanax for the anxiety. I miss who I was, and hate who I have become? I have never been able to turn my life over to God completly as I've wished since I was young. I feel demon possesed alot of times, like there is something in me. I believe in demon possesion and mental illness both. I have always feared mental illness since I was a teen and read a book by Mark Vonnagutt. Oh, I also do and say things in my sleep, and have for years, that I cannot remember or recall after I wake up. I've woke up during sex with my wife and couldn't tell her how it started.

You all are f*cking stupid. Do you expect people to take you seriously when you say things like, "Science don't believe in God or Satan."? And not a single damn one of you can spell schizophrenia.
Do you think persons with liver problems have demons in their liver? Or that heart disease is a demonic possession of the heart? No. The brain is an organ. It can acquire defects and illnesses just like any other organ. Get an education people.

I am a lot like Hannibal Lector in my insanity, quite refined in my intelligence, but I'd still cut your heart or liver out just because I've lost my rabbit assed mind. Do not ever think you are smarter than another human being just because you can spell one word that they couldn't. I would of never said a word, but you included me in this so here we are. I think it's checkmate, Bi&$h!!! Oh, I am not threatening anyone with violence, just pointing out that mental illness, and demon possesion are both legitimite options when dealing with insanity.

Sounds to me like some of you want validation for beliefs you've questioned. Read your Bible and pray for your answers. Topix is not a place to go for religious guidance.

How are possession and mental illness both legitimate options? Mental illness is proven by science and irregular brain functions can be mapped with brain scans, while possession is based on paranoia and religious beliefs. And by the way, it's demonic possession, not "demon possession".

And before you say "checkmate, Bi&$h!!!" you may want to provide a valid argument, instead of spewing out a half-assed attempt at a witty movie reference.

in demonic possession as well as mental illness. Just because a person is sick doesn't mean that they are possessed. If you are someone of the Christian faith why don't you go consult with a pastor/priest about your issue. I do believe in the bible so therefore I believe in demon possession as well ,but I have studied psychology and I know that some people have legitimate mental diseases. So like I said perhaps you should talk to someone of the cloth about what you think may be demons.

I wasn't referencing any movies. And demon or demonic possisions are and have been recorded through out history, not just in the Bible, but in many historic accounts written by noted scholors. It amazes me with all of these accounts and the many exorsisms given by Cathelic and Roman Cathelic that more people would believe in God. I had never experienced a glitch or anything in my thought patterns before my mother died. Even with all the drugs I've done, or alcohol I drank. I may have lost a few brain cells along the way, but nothing like this! This is horrible. I wouldn't wish this on even your prissy, stuck up, know it all ass! You do not know everything, you are not better, smarter, or more intelligent than the next person. If you think so, you are fooling yourself.

I agree that a depressed person will be depressed whether sinner or saint. Depression and or any other Mental disorder has nothing to do with Demon possession whatsoever.
Like you I believe that God draws near to those who have backsliden and rejoices when they return to him, he's not waiting with club to beat you like some would have you believe.
I myself have backslid a time or two so I don't claim to be a good Christian, just another undeserving Christian saved by the grace of god.

I wil say this once again then no loner visit this topic. Serious religious questions are better directed toward someone of faith you KNOW and trust along with study of the Word and prayer. True psychological issues should be directed toward a professional. No well meaning person should give such serious advice to someone who may be struggling with serious psychological on an Internet forum. The only appropriate advice is to encourage someone to seek out the appropriate professional help in these matters
