my family and I are trying to re locate to Hazard from Richmond so we can be closer to family and help out. We need a really cheap place to rent until we can get established and find jobs. does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a place through the housing authority??

U dont want to go thru the housing authority. Its the worst places in the world to live and the management is a joke. They cheat people out of their money and if they mess ur income information up theyll just give u an eviction notice and take u to court and they will evict u because the mayor is over everything.Besides the people are mainly drug addicts and the children are awful there. If u do drugs urself u wont make it there either because theres so many informants up there that u will have an indictment on u in no time and ur children will be taken.

There are a few more housing projects that are a little better but not by much.Theres cherokee hills, gorman hollow, and jarnigan place. They have similar problems too,but not as bad. There all nicer than the Housing Authority projects tho.Cherokee Hills is more secluded its up in a hollow to itself and their apartments are nicer.Gorman Hollow has nice apartments too but its next rank to walkertown projects.Jarnigan Place is only like twenty apartments but u can only stay there for a two years lease. My best advice would be to try to look around and find something that is privately owned for rent. There around,u just have to search good.Theres also dixon realitys, but dont take the ones on Laurel Street.Hope I helped u a little bit.

I've met some very nice ppl in the apartments....we all take care of each other...if they need something and I can help, I will...if I need something from the store and I got anymore spending on my card...they help..we are like the manson family...we take care of our own.

Walkertown is not the answer. They have made it to easy to steal off your neighbors there to.Those apartments are made where people can sneak in your windows from the roof and lots of people there know how to pick a lock. They have those tools you order right off the internet Lock pics!!!If your not going to have someone at your house at all times DO NOT MOVE THERE!!

I get 700 dollars a month on my card, omg!! That's a crime isn't it?? That is for me and my 2 kids, I think the government could & should do so much more, I had a job making a pitiful 8 dollars an hour working 30 hours a week, I wasn't clearing but 214.00 a week, I can draw 700 dollars a month on my card and get low income housing & when I say low I mean low...not but 30 dollars a month & that includes everything, and I get this without having to go out in the cold or the heat, and to pay the 30 dollars living expense and to buy cigs or whatever my card won't pay for I can let my friend give me cash and I buy her stuff when I get money on my card, it works out nicely, we have to do what we have to do in this world to survive..

Are you talking about your food stamp card? Yea it is for you and your 2 kids not for all kinds of random people in the projects? You could get it taken away from you if they knew you were doing things like spending it on other people. You are supposed to budget it out so that you have enough to do you an entire month.$700 is more than some low income families live on for food and supplies for a whole month. You could do it to if you weren't worried about funding your buddies.

My husband, son, and I lived on Liberty street for awhile before he found a good job. It took us a few months to get in. The duplex we lived in definitely needed some updates but we never had any problems from anyone up there. And some of the staff are rude but if you can speak with Sherry Deaton she is really great and will help you if she can. It's what you make of it just like anywhere else, I mean there are some problems up there but if you keep to yourself no one will bother you. Hope this was helpful.
