I don't believe a super volcano eruption would be an extinction event but I bet it will throw a cog into what has become routine life on most of the planet. It would probably be a small ice age worse than the one back in the late 1700's. A lot of people starved to death back then not being able to deal with the short growing seasons and more extreme winters.
