It was highly hoped that it was time someone from the outside came in and brought with them "Police" experience to an ever changing role in California law enforcement. Joe Farrow sat in the number two seat before and I believe demoted. Now he is back in the graces again. The CHP REALLY deserves a good leader. Joe is well liked by the troops, but is he really what the CHP needs?

The CHP leaders(less) kept their own people in the blind about this saying that they were just rumors when everyone outside the department knew. Way to go CHP. Way to treat your people!

Mike Brown is out and the opportunity to step forward has passed the CHP again. Why does the CHP again promote another good olboy. The CHP was once a great department. There are a lot of hard working men and women but as you progress up in rank, the more embarssing it gets. Promotions are based on test taking and not merit and abilities. The CHP is state wide and many commanders forget that the Commissioner is their boss. Commanders run their office the way they want too and not under one leadership. This is why the CHP differs from Area to Area. The purchase of the Smith & Wesson guns was a joke. Another laughing stock of the law enforcement community. Example of poor CHP leadership is the idea of 12 hours shifts. Many departments have been doing 12 hours shifts for over 15 years. Yet the CHP will not accept statistics from those departments for or against this issue. Instead, the CHP must do a year long and costly study (for a second time) to see if it works. How pathetic is the CHP. But the administration goes out, with no study, and puchases a poor, but major piece of equipment, the hand gun used by all Officers; which had several recalls. Again personal agendas pervail.

Hey, there is another potential CHP bidding crisis on the horizon if Ford stops making Crown Victorias in 2011 like they are talking about. They are going to have to rewrite their standards (ie lower them)because, at least at this point the front drive Chevy Impala police cars just aren't cutting it, and the Dodge Magnums are having issues too.

Why do these jack-booted meter-maids even exist? They're not real cops anyway. They should just disband these useless ticket-writers and give half their funding to the counties and local PDs and use the other half to eliminate the state budget deficit.

Or we could just stop your welfare payments, and that would help. Na, we will just keep them around for drunk drivers, hit and runs, stuff like that.

With the appointment of Joe Farrow - It's just another Hen guarding the Hen house. How can someone who was demoted be put into the highest position with this agency?

CHP officer's assisted us in our time of need when our daughter was abducted and murdered. They patrolled the area, looked for our daughter, searched for the suspects car, etc for weeks if not months. It seems that people don't like law enforcement if they have been caught doing something that they should not have been doing. If a person breaks the law, then they deserve to be punished, whether it's a ticket or incarceration. Yes, I have gotten my share of tickets and yes, looking back at it, I deserved each and every one of them and I have deserved quite a few more while exceeding the speed limit on the freeway, etc as most of us do. I have not liked getting them but I know that it was my fault, not the ticketing officer. Why hate a group of people when I was in the wrong, they weren't?

You need the CHP to keep numb-nuts like you in line. The CHP does a lot more than you'll ever know. "Stay in the donut shop numb nuts".

Just dis-band this useless agency. They should turn over an assests to local law enforcement, then give half their budget to local law enforcement. That's an instant savings to the state of 50% - and taxpayers would get a lot more for our money.

I've never seen them do anything but write tickets. Last mone I was broken down on the side of the freeway, and IGNORED by CHP so they could go on writing tickets to other drivers, right in front of me. I mean two different CHP cars. They never even approached me to see if I needed help. I could have been dealing drugs or murdering someone in the back of my car. They never would have noticed. Eventually someone from CalTrans stopped to talk to me - but the chips just went on writing tickets.

Maybe Commissioner Farrow can bring about an attitude change. The new officers are nothing but a squad of Storm Troopers. They need to stay on the numbered highways and off of the city streets. They should be controlling the State Highways and not writing tickets for no front plate on city streets. Confind them to the highways and keep them off of the county roads and city streets.
