"We all are going to have to bond together because we're in a mess."
And King Guidio caused this mess! Remember who started it years ago by starting a condemnation of property (aka immenent domaine) where the Costco is. The mess of a huge lawsuit (was it six years or more?) as a result of his push, as well as all those years of abandoned eyesore property at the gateway to the city, just to make more from developers he had promised. Chasing business from the fairly new mall was a disaster, as was getting in bed with our hero and protector Danny Bakewell when he bought and abandoned the mall with no intentions of getting it back on its feet. Then Hawthorne Blvd continued on its long slide downhill. Then there was the debacle when he tried to get the airport shut down so he could help developers convert the land for a huge trucking terminal. It backfired on him when the feds said they would take the land back if it was not used as an airport and Gridi flip-flopped and said he was never in favor of his own idea.
king Larry, its time to move aside and let new ideas come in from new leaders.

Thank God, we won all the way with Danny Juarez, maybe we lost in the mayors race but Juarez will still have control, Greedy you are done now hopefully we can get things done for all of the city and not just the Ramona tract, and include festivities representing the real demographics of Hawthorne not the .03% Italian population,(nothing against Italians) Guido maybe the small business can feel free from your intimidation tactics you use to get your way, I hope the HSD checks on your work hours the the district pays for, while you run around and do your private errands, you are done in using this city for you and your friends. Now do what you were elected to do, and work to fix "this mess" that according to your campaign did not exist but now you declare is there, Oh! I know, blame it on Lennox it's their fault, well congrats to Juarez, Vargas, and English for your win please show this Bozo how to get it done, Oh and to all of the old guard yes all three are of Latino background!

Im hoping either Guidi or Juarez can help our struggling business. So far, Juarez has proved to be the most helpful and concerned.

The city of Hawthorne has some of the strictest zoning rules in the area. Our business got cited $500 for business signs we posted on the side of our business. When we tried to get permits, they told us it was impossible.

Our business is located in a crevice of a plaza and we've been dependent on signs we have posted on the corner of two main streets. Ever since we were forced to take them down, we have had minimal traffic. We are close to closing down.

I messaged the entire city council, including Guidi and Juarez about keeping our signs. Guidi responded saying he'd forward it to the City Manager and Juarez responded by giving me his cell phone number and calling me every week to check up on the status of the situation. When I forwarded Juarez the email I received from the City Planner saying it would be impossible to obtain a waiver for the signs, Juarez stood up for our business and sent an email demanding a detailed report.

I just sent another email to Guidi. In this article it states his promise to help new businesses. I hope that is truly the case. I will update here again letting you know what the outcome is and maybe we'll see who really cares about businesses and the citizens of Hawthorne.

Who's shocked that Larry's criminal underworld connections did whatever they could to stop the residents on the east and north areas from voting.

Larry knew that he was not favored in these areas so he pulled strings and tried to stop people from voting.

Not to mention the many investigations into the "Awaad" brothers for criminal activities, and some strong accusations from the homeland security and FBI fellows. seems they are alleged to be connected to some "Radical Islamic groups" and they were chosen as a poling place. Great Idea!!!

Maybe someone should explain to them that this is not the middle east and interfering with an election is a crime.

Oh well another felony to add to these P.O.S.'s for their resume. Does this cost Larry more $$$?

Donations given to Monterio and Valentine did not work to get them into office. It worked for Larry but that is where it will stop. The days of funneling your dirty money into the hands of corupt elected and want-to-be elected officials (Guidi, Monterio and Valentine)is over. You now will have to deal with the new majority. Get used to it!

Hatred is all I read from 5 of the six messages I read so far. If that kind of hatred is the attitude the new members of the City Council are going to show, our city will go down the drain.
I really hope that the new members and also the old remaining member of the Council plus our Mayor set aside their differences. It is a fact that the slate Juarez/English/Vargas received enormous support from a Union, the Police Union, and Unions are Unions. Whatever they do for you is with a purpose. They will profit from their investment sooner than later from the debtors now in power. We are now the eyes and ears of our community. Lets see if the new transparency policy to be implemented by the new counselors will stop their benefactors from harvesting on their crop.

"Hawthorne voters show disenchantment with city's leadership"
This is the most dim-witted headline the Daily Breeze ever used. They fail to mention there were two open seats and no incumbents running anyone could have won, all it took was to spend over 80,000.00 dollars. So in a few weeks I encourage all the intrested check the campaign statements and you will see who sold their souls.“The union backed Juarez's slate, walking neighborhoods and sending campaign mailers in support of Juarez, Vargas and English. Police union “
or now Police State?

Hey Rock !!! The previous posts aren't about hatred. They are about reality. It's all in the City Council minutes and certain crime reports. The Mayor has been in the middle of all of it. The HPOA has a stake in the Community not just in their paychecks. The new Council majority has the ability to make some much needed change and they should start at the top. The City Manager/accountant and the Police Chief/janitor. We need some professionals not mercenaries.

Dodger Blue, All you do is confirm all I said. All you see is black and white. Apparently, to you and some others, there is nothing positive about all these years Mr. Guidi has been our city leader.
C'mon my friend. You people should be more realistic. There is no perfection, but I should say that in this free nation, candidates are elected by the majority of the electorate. Guidi has been elected more times than anybody else since Hawthorne was instituted as a city in 1922.

Reporter doesn’t say that the cops spent 100,000 dollars and Vargas wants ethics reform but put 40,000 of his own money in. She is a BAD BAD reporter

Closing down a polling place by a campaign contributor and sending hit pieces containing lies will get you elected each time. But what would you expect from a gangster-style career politian like Guidi.

Poll Watcher, you should come up with more substance, closing down a polling place in Guidi's territory could be a stupid mistake on his behalf. He wouldn’t close a place where he was to going toget more votes than his opponent. You are accusing people of wrong doing without any evidence. If Guidi lied, what about his opponents? They used all kinds of false accusations that had certain relevance in the past but never went further than rumors propagated by his enemies. How many times has Guidi been convicted? None whatsoever.

Funny how the standard in these posts is "he wasn't convicted." Shouldn't we as a people expect, "never any resonable evidence, never any federal investigation?"

smoke and mirrors... Looking forward to real substance and action on the issues facing our city.

And what's unethical about investing $40K of your OWN money in your campaign? Some how this is worse than raising $75K an election cycle from businesses and developers? I'd rather vote for the guy that owes no favors to anyone because he is mostly self-financed.

In a short time, you may not be thanking heaven for help. Hawthorne is being watched by the FBI just as Carson was. And, right after that two Carson Mayors went to prison. Is Hawthorne going to be next??? It's looking that way.

Hey Rock - You are absolutely correct. Larry has never been convicted. Why? He has fall guys to take the hit for him.
Two examples: S&W Tow John Germain was convicted and spent time in jail for Guidi. In return, Guidi convinced the council not to collect millions owed the city. This should answer the question why the city is in financial stress. Not too bad of an exchange - jail time vs keeping his fortune (Newport Beach home, cars, guns, etc.).
Former Councilman Louis Velez was convicted and did not rat out Guidi. Guidi threw Velez under the bus. In exchange, Guidi convicned that poor excuse of a Superindendent Don Carrington to hire a convicted fellon. Job security in exchange for not telling what he knew.
A list of people who will take the hit for Guidi is getting shorter and shorter. It is a matter of time.

Poll Watcher- You are spot on with your examples of the Mayor's conduct. This must be the less than perfect slack the Mayor deserves that Rock is writing about. Germain is out now and back in business. Maybe Louis, John and Larry can resurrect their car club again.I'm sure the're all on speaking terms.

He calls attorneys and threatens to sue.Such a lil wimp.. Hawthorne should feel sorry for themselves for having such a wimp as a leader, specially all of those who voted for him....Can anyone see that this guy STEALS from the KIDS of Hawthorne??? YES,EVERY TIME HE GETS A PAYCHECK!!!

Wake up - Whats wrong with putting your own money towards your campaign? Vargas obviously felt the city of hawthorne is important enough to put his own money to get elected. I would rather vote for someone who self finances their campaign then someone who is owes his win to special interests. I'm sure Vargas would have won with or without the HPOA endorsement.

spending your own money is ethical. what is unethical is taking contributions from developers you are trying to help..thats what Guidi does
