This Charter School concept was always a disaster waiting to happen. I don't know who thought it up but it was dumb from the start.

Although I don't purport to know anything about this particular charter school, most of these comments demonstrate how ignorant people are about what is a charter school.
Not all are great, nor are all bad - kinda like schools in general. It really is all about the people behind the school - kinda like schools in general. |

Obviously, some of these students are doing much better, and are more improved students that WANT to attend school.. How many other schools can say that?? Much less have the students themselves say those words? Based on this article, it is the usual bureucratic (sp) two step and foul up. "Let's shut down a school that is actually doing it's job, and keep open other schools that are just being overpaid babysitters"......

Again, so many commenting are blathering about how bad the school is, what a bad idea. Well, the school has a great success rate, the kids there are changing, learning how to read, write and do math. Are maturing so that they can become productive members of society. Just because you old farts don't understand how kids might be made interestd by hip hop and other comteporary ideas doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Like Jim-Los Angeles said this a bureaucratic thing. The idiots at the school district should easily be able to remedy this if they were more concerned about the kids and less concerned about flexing their power.
If it helps kids get an education it is a good thing. For all those bigots who don't care about kids, maybe this will help, if kids graduate from this school they probably won't be on the welfare role, eh? |

"We responded with two three-ring binders of documents and information," - they probably didn't even read it. Reeks of a tyrannical school board not wanting to have their appointed authoritative powers rained on. Charter schools, when operated properly far outpace the majority of public schools.
And gall to complain regarding any schools collaborating with one another is absolutely bizarre and against the best interest of students who will need those global collaborative capabilities. Good luck Hip Hop! |

Really? Don't know why it's being shut down? Rocket scientists in the making. The "teachers" were taking the easy way out. Close the doors and get these kids back into a real school. Oh, wait! It's Hawthorne. Sorry. Kids, go to the library. Teach yourselves.

Read the "Wednesday Letters To The Editor." What a waste of resources and money. Close this school today. No one should have to live next to this. Hawthorne keeps proving how getto it is. Strike up the band, these children are our future. Deport the illegals to make room for Hawthorne/Lennox/Lawndale & Comptons best and brightest. Along with their "parents."

With the issues facing the country and young people today, this school is a stupid idea.
Stop wasting our tax money on this crap. |

I agree 100%, I'm sick and tired of my daughter coming home crying because the kids at school make fun of her of having white skin, freckles, blue eyes, and no hair on her arms.(she has hair, its just blonde). Yes she is 1 of 22 kids in her class. The only white one, there are 2 african americans, 2 of asian decent and the other 17 are of latino, spanish, mexican decent. 13 of which dont speak english at all. This is only 1 class, in 1 school, in 1 neighborhood. Times it by all the schools around this area..... |

I live on the street the school is on. And while I never like to see a school go under. The truth of the matter is I am glad in this case I am okay with it. Kids smoking weed outside, or running into the street to gauge the reaction of a driver who thinks they may hit someone and then roll over laughing, or even better yet throwing rocks at car windows while children are inside, is a all to recurring problem for those of us who live there. I welcome anyone to look up the number of times the police have been called because of these and other reasons. Not very many neighbors of this school are to teary eyed to see it go. The school's lack of responsibility for renewing their charter runs in line with their lack of effort to supervise their students. My heart goes out to the students, but their school failed them, no one else.

Oh boo hoo, cry me a river.......news flash....this is babysitting or a future welfare recipient training program. These "kids" were never going to amount to anything anyway.

Why would anybody want to send their kids to "HIP HOP SCHOOL????? Are they serious? Meanwhile China and India alone, graduate over 2 million engineers. Romans! The barbarians are at the gate!

I truly think and believe theses kids want to chenge for the better!! I mean who actually loves to go to school and do their work like them ?? They find their selfs at school, Who they really want to be , what they really want to do. I'm actually a student from Media Arts Academy. It suprise me how all the kids attend school for the matter of the fact that they are safe and want to do better for their life and change and be who ever they want to be, looking at these new opportunities That our teachers have given us! I understand people dont see from our point of veiw and never will but only if they understood how we feel about our school and another home ; where we are doing so well for one another and making sure everyone succeed! Knowing that not only our teachers are there for us but also our students making sure everyone is doing well and pushing them to do their work !

No wonder these kids can't read or write. What the
heck are we allowing to be called schools. |
|
Absolutely, they didn't read is because the idiots on the school board can't read and they certainly don't want anyone actually suceeding just like so many of the morons blathering their racist crap om this board. |
|
In case you can't read, it is being shut down because of a simple and correctable bureaucratic screw up--moron. Teachers were taking the easy way out-huh? What have you you done for kids, the future of America, recently a---ssshole. Shut up. |
|
RAcist pig. Blah, Blah Blah. Yeah, these children ARE our future, so they can either graduate high school or become an uneducated imbecile like you. |
|
It's a stupid idea why? Becuase you say it is? Well ,I say you're an idiot that can't manage to make an argument, so prove me wrong, genius. |
