Willie was on to something- honesty.
Why don't the conservatives just be honest and say that they are capitalists and materialists. That they believe a strong economy is important to back the military and keep the US a world power.
Right now, the economy is in trouble and we can't afford cap and trade or any other 'environmental fixes'. Those concerns can be addressed later, when and if there is more proof that our efforts (and sacrifices) will be beneficial.
But no, they are believing something that will turn out to be as ridiculous as believing in the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. I feel sorry for them, they will look so stupid someday.
The earth is flat and the moon is made of cheese.
There, it's written, it must be true.

Actually, I have caught the world before.

lol. Actually, depending on the technique, snagging rock is the goal. I'm sure you already knew that. But others who don't fish don't.

Where do you get the "materialist" part, esp. in comparison to Liberals? For one thing, neither wealth nor a belief in capitalism necessarily implies "materialism." Secondly, and even if it did, we've already seen the data showing that Democrats represent the nation's wealthiest districts.

People tend to view Hollywood as representing some of the glitziest, most ostentatious displays/displayers of both wealth and materialism... yet as a whole, would you say they lean more Conservative or Liberal?

Another point: one may believe in the possibility, at least, of global warming, yet not agree that cap-and-trade is the best way to address it.

Someone posted this searchable link on another forum. You'd still have to know what you're looking for and then search for it - but it can be done. Just have to use keywords or other identifying info from the articles. And as I'm sure you'd be quick to point out if I didn't - we have no assurance that all the-mails are all there.

I'm still taking a break from politics, but will say this about one of my favorite topics, materialism.
The whole point of conservatives denying global warming is because they worry about the economy and don't want to do anything to hurt profitability. Their main focus is always money.
Profitability= money,,, money= buying things,,,things=materialism
Therefore, conservatives are materialists.
Regarding: "Another point: one may believe in the possibility, at least, of global warming, yet not agree that cap-and-trade is the best way to address it." - That was my point. The two can be viewed and discussed separately. SO- Be reasonable (and honest) and let the global warming topic go (for now).
WARNING: This is a trap, Christianity is coming up next.

Not really. But it's funny your link didn't work. I guess you couldn't find the link for the other "sources" so names sufficed.

Why don't you try a little manual labor and type in guardian and then look for it, it is really very simple. I had no problem.

The gross hypocrisy of the left... Liberals don't care. They hear the word "free" and they're sold. Which is kind of interesting when you consider that they dub anyone opposed to health care reform "greedy" and "selfish."

Why is this current system good? How does it actually address the un, or under-insured? How does it address employers who now have decided that they no longer will provide group health for their employees?

The current system is unsustainable, so something has to be done. It is the Democratic Party operating on the mandate that it got from the voters when they elected Barack Obama.

Since when is this about protecting the insurance industry? This is protecting people's health care.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Cancer

You have stars in your eyes and you're in a really romantic mood today. Your idea of heaven is to be with that special person in your life, preferably doing something very nice. If you meet someone new or a relationship gets off the ground today, things will always be rather dreamy and otherworldly between you. It will be as though real life, with all its problems, never intrudes on your time together.
