Minn. men have passion for pigeons

The Belgian folks who live on Detroit's far east side used to raise pigeons -- the neighborhood is still full of their descendants who escaped. The pigeons, I mean, not the Belgians. Well, maybe the Belgians, too, I don't know. For some reason, the east side Belgians are called "Buffalos" -- presumably because they immigrated to Detroit via Buffalo, NY. They brought with them the game of "feather bowling" which is played on a trough-shaped alley made of compressed pigeon dung. I am not making this up. The Cadieux Cafe on Cadieux Avenue has two feather bowling alleys. Reservations are required. Just another creative use of pigeons and pigeon by-products!
