How many folks against the death penalty would go for this suggestion?

New law: The government shall identify opponents of Capital Punishment and they shall pay a tax to support life sentences of murderers.
and those that support the death penalty should foot the bill (pay the tax) for those on death row; from beginning to end.

I think "Hello" and "Terry C." should spend some time in the Middle East and Eastern Europe before calling Bush names. When you see what REAL war criminals do, you'll thank your lucky stars fo guys like Bush. In fact, all liberal socialists should spend some time here. It's a reality check.

This president has had more challenges than any other President in my life time. He took office with an inherited recession,China taking our ship problem, Dot com collapse, Then 9/11,war in afganistan, War in Iraq,
anthracix in the mail,D.C. Sniper, Hurricanes; all of this plus and he has had no help from the liberals or the media. Just be thankful that either Al Gore or John Kerry are NOT president

Pssssssst Why even discuss this. NJ doesnt execute anyway, even though it has a death penalty.

I will NEVER thank my lucky stars for a "man" like Bush. He is doing his very best to turn our country into the middle east. We are losing personal freedoms by the dozens every month and we aren't even aware of most of it. He's already broken several constitutional laws, waged a fake war against the WRONG country, destroyed the first amendment, spent millions of dollars buying foreign media off to print lies to make him look better and did I mention the illegal nation-wide eaves-dropping program? And I am sick and goddamned tired of people saying liberals are socialists. Socialists and Liberals are two different freaking things. Do a little freakin' reading, will you? And I'm tired of your panting about how we should all visit the middle east. If you're so miserable there, leave. Otherwise, stop telling us how great we have it You don't live here and have no business telling us how we should feel.

Well, BART! I am a United States citizen, serving my country in a foreign land. My home and my family are in New Jersey. I pay the same high taxes everyone else does. That gives me every right to express an opinion about MY President and MY country. I don't share you points of view but I am over here defending your right to have them. I seriously doubt you are qualified to lecture me about socialism. Walk a mile in my boots, see what I have seen and then talk. This was a discussion about the new Jersey Death Penalty, right?

I find it very hard to believe that your son was lock away in STATE prison as opposed to county jail for a meager $25.00 worth of drugs. Was this his first offense? Had he been arrested for possession of drugs/paraphernaila or other instruments specifically for use in drug related activities? Prison is a business. And my part in it is to keep miscreants who refuse to obey the laws of this society locked away from those who will.

Did your son actually receive a 5 year sentence? Or is that number a result of the other issues you mentioned? Just curious. Let's be fair, though; while your son did make a mistake, the drug laws in most states are more harsh than those for violent crimes. If the state legalized drugs and controlled them, they would not only make money, but take away the allure of the black market millionaire. Sound stupid? Consider this, the arguments against abortion in 1971 centered around the theory that women given easy access to abortion would use it without compunction. After Roe v. Wade was upheld by the Supreme Court, the number of abortions committed per year following were less than those performed the ten years each previous. Not to mention the number of women who died at the hands of butchers dropped to nearly zero. Men and women who wish to use drugs should have the freedom of choice. Men and women who rape, murder, beat their kids and each other should have no freedoms. Your son being locked up for a drug he chose to take is beyond ridiculous and is a five year waste of a perfectly good member of society. We should be ashamed at the way we run our country. We spend too much time worrying about what our neighbor does than about what we can do for our neighbor. That works out well for the government. The more we in-fight, the less organized we are and the less likely we are to unite for mass change. I hope your son comes home soon and that everything works out. Wouldn't it be nice if the DOC had to find work for a change?
Cooper, I know it's been a while since you wrote this, but I discovered this forum today and couldn't keep quiet about one thing you said. You say that we spend too much time worrying about what our neighbor does than about what we can do for our neighbor. Can I ask you a question? Does our neighbor not include the innocent babies that are murdered every day? Who defends them? I am ashamed of my country's lawmakers who support abortion in any way.

You can try to justify your "service" as being in the name of protecting my rights all you want. It is a common mantra for those who blindly follow orders and blindly follow leaders. Ask the Nazis, they know all about it. Going into other countries with imperialistic ideas that we as a young country fought against is wrong and so is the way Bush is running this country. As for my qualifications, Pat, I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Marine Corps. I served in both Korea and Viet Nam. I also worked diligently to hasten our withdrawal from both campaigns, having witnessed irsthand the futility of attempting to forcible coerce and country into changing it's religious and political ideaologies. I am now a Political Science Professor and hold a Doctoral Degree, specializing in Middle Eastern Politics and Relations. I have been a consultant to The United Nations since Operation Desert Storm and will tell you exactly what I have told them: We have no business walking into countries that have been living their way of life for thousands of years and telling them that their way of life is wrong and that they must do things our way. It will only lead to much misery and senseless death. No soldier in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, or on the DMZ for that matter is protecting ANYTHING for those of us at home. You are not fighting for my rights, Pat. They re not in jeopardy from the citizens of Iraq. What happened on 9/11 was the mastermind of a mad man who had no relation whatsoever to Mr. Hussein. On the contrary, records and intelligence from all across the globe indicate a closer relation to his home country, Saudi Arabia. The same country Mr. Bush recently tried to sell the Port Authority rights in this country to [aka The UAE]. If you were indeed fighting for our rights and freedoms, Pat, you would be here, at home, trying to protect us from our "fearless leader". But if you really think that having every other country think that we are an imperialistic bully and most of your countrymen feeling that we now live in a theocratic monarchy is a good thing, I suggest you stay where you are. Soon there will be no difference between there and here. Be safe.

I do not think that getting into a huge debate about abortion is the right thing for this forum. I was merely using it as an analogy. It has nothing to do with what I said regarding spending too much time worrying about what our neighbors do instead of worrying about what we can do for our neighbors. How you feel about abortion IS important to you and I respect it. But it is not our place to put our beliefs onto others. If you are a God-fearing person, then you should "Judge not lest ye be judged." Let God do his job while we do ours - following his word. Peace

Dr., Lt. Colonel “Bart,” as a fellow Officer and University graduate, I am shocked and chagrinned by your condescending, seditious, diatribe. Like most pseudo intellectuals, you think a Ph.D. gives you license to judge what’s best for this country and its people, it doesn’t. Nor does the President need to consult with you before making a decision. I believe in our system of Law and Government. If the President has broken the law or abused his constitutional powers, the system and the people will hold him accountable. Until then, I follow the “lawful” orders of my superiors and protect ALL the interests of my country and its people. What the rest of the world and or the UN think of us is irrelevant. All that matters is what keeps America strong and its people prosperous. If “imperialism” is the means to that end, so be it. “Hussein” was a murderous, criminal dictator. Your sympathy toward his plight is very telling and symptomatic of what’s really wrong with our institutions of higher learning. Calling the Bush Administration a “theocratic monarchy” is absurd. Saying there will soon be no difference between us and the Middle East is just nonsense. Your views are ideologically skewed and disturbingly, subjective. However, I will continue to believe my service to our country is protecting our/your way of life and saving the lives of many innocent people. You still need to walk a few miles in my boots Colonel. Your experience is appreciated but dated. The world has changed a great deal since Korea and Vietnam. Respectfully, I recommend you read, Middle East for Dummies, Yugoslavia, Death of a Nation and Death of the West.

To make things alot cheaper we should bring back hanging and or beheading and every prison should kill about ten to 15 murders a week then we could use that tax money to buy books and inprove the schools
