This is outrageous. These police officers are not being trained on what to do when encountering a family pet when entering a suspects home. Over 80% of households have pets in the US. A dog is going to of course bark and growel at strangers breaking in its owner's home. That is what they do as man's best friend. They protect us. These police officers are killing innocent family pets for no reason and are not being held accountable for it. Shame on them. The root of the problem is most certainly lack of training and protocol in these situations. IIf the protocol is shoot first, there is a big problem and none of us are safe.

You are not safe in the presence of a armed madman with the law backing him up. No one is safe until we are all armed and work as a community.

Many pit bulls are trained by drug dealers to guard their stashes by attacking anyone who comes near them, other than their owners. Unfortunately, that includes police officers. When a vicious dog threatens a cop, I don't expect him or her to just stand there and get attacked and bitten. Deadly force is not only reasonable in a situation like that, but is definitely called for. Sometimes there are only seconds in which to act, and no time to call the ASPCA for backup!

The homes these cops usually enter aren't those of law abiding citizens with cute family pets. See my previous post for information on what officers are more likely to encounter when they enter a building!

A crack dealer will keep a few nasty, vicious pit bulls around to protect his stash and his cash.

I am from Long Island not CT...hence my name is "Ashley from LI". My work IP address is CT. I don't know the situations why the aniamls were shot. I am sure there were legitimate cases where the dog had to be shot. Do I like it NO. I despise people who own dogs and TRAIN them to be vicious.

bad pets = bad pet owners, all house pets can be dangerous!! from dogs, cats, birds, and snakes.the police has to protect themselfs at all times, from bad acting pets and the stupid owners.i know that i would shoot any pet that was a danger to me or was going to cause harm!! its not like the owner can control them and that shouldnt have them

That's why handcuffs were made to follow-through or continue through the loop rather than stop at some point.

Cuff your boa and squeeze 'til the armature of the cuff flips around, severing the head of your boa.

More manageable than cops having to carry around shovels for such situations.

The attack bird can be trapped under their hat.

I am far from a bad pet onwer. My dog is properly trained and socailized. I have no worries dear. The only thing my dog will do is lick someone to death. You need to educate yourself on animals dear. That should help you with your obvious fears.

Hopefully it wasn't a black-dog, or else Al Sharpton will begin staging marches and protests.
