"the kid" should not have robbed a bank and endangered innocent people. He should have been working or at school like the rest of the tax paying citizens of Connecticut, not stealing something that he didn't earn. What he got is what he earned.

Anyone who who has a weapon and shows it in a threatening manner after robbing a bank deserves what they get. Could have grabbed a hostage, etc. Please, you commit a crime, you pay.

Police training provides other methods to deal with a knife threat besides deadly force. May God have mercey on this officer.

O well, that's what happens when you break the law and run from the police.
I have no sympathy at all!

...obviously his wrong does not make a right! He started his morning w/the decision of, "I'm going to rob this bank because..." and then he's shot dead a few hours later...unneccessary? YES! But it was all by his own doing! Please don't try to rationalize the DUMB acts!

I heard that this was a young boy who was killed. And that he did not actually rob the bank. I am deeply saddened that the police did not use other means besides deadly force. And I am sickened that there are so many angry respondents out there who have no compassion and no forgiveness in their hearts.

If this was Joe Bak (pronounced Bach) then he deserves our compassion. He came from a very difficult background and had a most difficult time growing up. Nothing ever seemed to go right for that young man and he went down the wrong paths that led to tragedy and loss. My heart goes out to the family he has left, some of whom cared deeply about him.

I understand some people pass judgement but I also happen to know this family. Although, he was troubled, he did not deserve to die. It is unfortunate that our "system" really doesn't rehabilitate. He was actually a smart kid and this is very sad. I of course do not believe that robbery is an answer but he had problems and it is a very sad time for his family.

I wonder what the headlines would have been had this criminal been shot by the Hartford Police. Given the circumstances of this incident, only an idiot would have failed to disobey the orders of an officer of the law. Considering this, had the Hartford Police killed the robber the Currant's headlines would have probably read 'Hartford Police Murder Learning Disabled Resident'. I wonder what NBC30.com 's headlines would have been.

My deepest condolonces to his family. Grew up with the man. He had a great heart. He Was never scared of anything. He had alot of life left ahead of him. Anybody posting anything on this forum needs to have some respect for his family after such a tragic loss. No doubt this cop is going to be in some trouble. These days cops are tought to use tazers and rubber bullets, WTF happend here???

If the police identified themselves as officers and requested that he drop his weapon, then he should have complied.

That MEANS, drop the weapon and drop to the ground.

Anybody who doesn't do as a police officer requests deserves to be shot. I'm glad it was a deadly shot and not one to maim him so that we, the taxpayer, would have to pay for his recovery!

I'm sorry if, as someone said, he didn't rob the bank. He should still have complied with the officer's request and drop any weapon he had.

I agree that robbing a bank is not right. But I do not agree with the fact that the cops killed him. I was there. I live on that street. He ran and got shot. Not only once, but about 3 or 4 times. The cops could of tazered him. There were more than 40 cops out there. You mean to tell me that one young man was that much of a threat to 40+ cops? He died on the scene. They shot him and left him there for a while. Then they put a white sheet over his body. He did not die in the hospital. My heart goes out to his family. Again, robbing is not right. But what those cops did was wrong. He did not have to get killed.
