My argument is quite simple.
The families are breaking laws. I really don't care to hear about the poor children, the children of felons, drug dealers, whoever, received none of these benefits. Why should we reward people who consciously break laws?
The legislators are doing nothing more than pandering to minorities. Here's hoping this idiotic move back fires and they all lose there offices come election day.
I know I will pay close attention and reward my representatives appropriately for this self-serving vote.
You are right these families broke the law. The laws that they broke are not felonies as you stated. They are misdeameanors. However, the children of these people did not break any laws whatsoever. Based on the Supreme Court decision of Joe vs. Plyler this children are allowed to have elemenatary and secondary education. I believe that the best American thing to do is to allow them to pay in-state tuition if they qualify with the pre-qualifications stated in the bill. Ten other states have the same laws on their books and more than seventeen other states are doing the same thing. To neglect their education could cost the state much more than the benefits of having a well educated workforce. The tax returns would be much higher in the long run -- especially if the DREAM ACT is enacted in Congress ( a bill that would provide a green card to these children).

I never said they were felons. What I said was we don't give the children OF felons, drug dealers etc. any special treatment, why should they be treated differently.

This is a good point. It is proven that those who do not have an education are likely to turn to crime instead. Why not provide some with at least an opportunity to become productive members of our society rather than waste our tax dollars in prison.

Because the children haven't committed any crimes. Therefore, why should they have to suffer as if they have?

Do we then adopt all the children whose parents have committed crimes and are jailed?

Do we keep those parents out of jail because their children are innocent victims of moronic parents?

These people chose to have children well aware of the circumstances and ramifications. I am sure they assumed if they had kids born here this would be an automatic citizenship. Guess again.

Why are you comparing criminals with the parents of undocumented immigrants? Your statment is extremely biased and xenophobic. Your statement don't deserve a response.

I am not looking for a response, just making a statement. I am also not talking about any one's parents. I am talking about illegal aliens and their legal status.

His statement is not biased or xenophobic. It is an appropriate analogy. Your statement however, is extremely intolerant of those who favor abiding by the law, biased towards illegal activity by illegal aliens, prejudicial against others opinions and is a prime example of the bigotry perpetutated by the pro-illegal immigration side of the debate.

I do fine it interestting that to illegally enter the country the first time is only a misdemeanor, but for anyone who harbors them, shelters them, employs them or basically aids and abets them the crime is a felony. Can DeStefano and his minions be charged with felonies?

If you were ONLY talking about illegal aliens and their legal status, you would find that their offense is ONLY a misdeameanor. You are comparing this segment of the population with criminals. Now come on if you don't see your xenophobic statement you are really stupid, Come on now, why don't really tell us how you feel about "illegal aliens" come on...

Appropriate analogy? Are you serious, let me see, to compare a criminal felon with a misdeameanor, no YOU are wrong. You, are a definetely, a hatemonger that only want deportation to illegals. Why don't you really tell us how a xenophobic person feel about immigrants?

"Really stupid"? Now there's truly an informed statement. I am sincerely hurt by your cutting wit. Everyone here should see YOUR posts as naive and deluded and coming from a fairly simple mind.

Illegal aliens should be sent back to their country of origin. That's how I and a majority of Americans feel. Like it or not.

You ignorant xenophobe, you say that the MAJORITY of the people want illegal aliens to go back to their country. Not so fast hatemonger, I don't really think the majority wants that. I actually believe the country is more inclined to let them stay. Even the President of the Unites States is currently meeting with members of the Senate and asking them to re-consider his plan that would actually provide for a path to Citizenship to the 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. You see not everyone agrees with your hate message. And please don't confuse criminals with immigrants.

Even the best economists in the country like Sebastian Mallaby disagree with deporting illegal immigrants (Mr. Mallaby is fellow for International Economics with the Council on Foreign Relations) "Chasing down and deporting illegal workers is costly to U.S. taxpayers, cruel to immigrants, disruptive for U.S. employers, expensive for U.S. Consumers -- and, most of all, futile." I wouldn't know how a xenophobic person feels about immigrants. You see, I don't throw around words without knowing what they really mean and I don't hurl them at people without knowing anything about them. This is one of the bad things with the internet. It allows people with very little common sense and intelligence to say anything they want withot retribution. You call me a xenophobe. A xenophobe is one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin. All because I do not approve of or admire illegal aliens. You know nothing about my background or my family's background. Most resident aliens or naturalized citizens(including those from Mexico) are vehemently against this plan. It is a slap in our faces for actually playing by the rules. You are the hateful one.

Do you know the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony? It has nothing to do with the seriousness of the crime but the punishment and sentence handed down. It is generally a felopny if the sentence is a year or more. Both are criminal charges. So misdemeanants are criminals. Don't try to weasel out the argument by acting like a four year old and crying misdemeanor versus felony. That is so childish.

And as to deportation of illegals only. No you are wrong. Legal immigrants that commit violent crimes should be deported also. Not Class 3 misdemeanors (I know the difference).

Stop hurling investives when you can't logically refute someone's comments. That is such a stereotypical liberal response.

Try coming up with an original thought and stop using the pro-immigration cliches.

Good luck.

You quote one economist who is turned into "the best economists".
You're as bad as the global warming enthusiasts.
You want to go quote to quote? You want to go expert to expert? You quote the Washington Post. I'll quote the Wall Street Journal.

Why don't you think for yourself. That might actually impress me.

Hey rainbow brite. I am glad you "actually believe". Try doing some actual reading, the polls reflect that a majority don't want any of these people here illegally.

"Even the President"!! Wow a left wing nut case mentioning the President. Truly laughable.

I welcome all immigrants that enter our fine country legally. Don't try and put the liberal spin on what I have said in these posts.

As I am writing this the news just mentioned that ICE raided a Del Monte plant where they got over 150 illegal aliens. Get this, they were using stolen social security numbers! Gee, as the liberals were emphatically saying they couldn't get public assistance or collect other benefits.
If they can use these numbers they can get assistance.

Of course now the Left Wing folks will have to think of a new term for welfare fraud and propose that this too won't be illegal!!!!!

Why is it that those who preach tolerance seem to be quick to stereotype and name call when someone disagrees with their views?

A person can be opposed to this measure and not be racist or xenophobic or ignorant or stupid. This type of name calling is an obvious ploy to halt free speech by assasinating the character of those who hold legitimate opinions that happen to be different than yours.
