Then why even pass this legislation if it was felt no illegal aliens could afford it???
By the looks of this I'm guessing there will be additional bills passed to make sure these illegals get to attend UCONN, along with the obligatory photo op for you sleaze bags. Once again, thanks CT legislatures for pandering to a few and making we, the tax payers foot another bill so that you may in some way attempt to secure your nomination come next election. Welcome to the state of public assistance! God you folks are pathetic! |

That's nice. Reward illegal behavior at U.S. citizens and CT taxpayer's expense. What the hell is wrong with the Democraps? They'll take money from my family, make me pay artificially high electric rates, gas and the like, and now will make it easier and less costly for illegals to send their kids to college. Just freaking great...Why not make the whole state a sanctuary state. Invite every illegal here from all over the country? And I'll bet buried in the bill is probably a little rule that says they should get special treatment on the admissions portion too...that way they can get into college easier than my high taxed family. Morons...Psss..where is all your compassion for my family?

Looks like it will be a short lived triumph for the Demo's. I predict next election will see a swing back to Republican to undo all the stupid moves we've seen so far. Too bad.

As I live in New Hampshire where people are only beginning to grasp the need for compassion, I am inspired by this act. You can be an inspiration for the rest of New England. We have a large population of refugees (mostly African at this point), coming into Concord, Manchester, and other cities, and the tuition issue will soon be on "our plates."

I thnik it's just wonderfule that my taxes will go toward rewarding illegal behavior. Both my children went to state universities and they didn't get any breaks. Gee, maybe if I'd been an illegal alien they would have. Just goes to show, break the law and get rewarded. One of reasons they give for this new law is that Ct. needs educated people in the work force. Did they ever stop to think that the young men and women from Ct. who are graduating from college are leaving Ct. because opportunities are much better in other states. With our high cost of living most graduates just starting out in new jobs can't afford to live in Ct. Just another consequence of our do nothing, self serving politicians.

No one here is grasping at compassion. The only thing being grasped here are the working fools wallets. Another tax added when these buffoons should be looking at spending cuts not tax increases!!! All you illegal aliens, Concord, New Hampshire is looking pretty attractive isn't it? |

Keep electing those Democrats. They never ever stop raiding your wallets. You get what you elect.

How about free Laptops and Tutors for the poor kids. Come to think of it how about a free (New Please) car for each kid so that they do not feel intimidated by the rich kids from Simsbury who go to UConn.

When will the insanity stop in the General Assembly?
I guess it pays to break the law. Build the fence and make it cost prohibitive to employ illegal immigrants. No to amnesty. |

I grew up in NH as well and left because there were very few chances for emplyemnt in my field of expertise. My parents are still there - I hope this doesn't hit their plate. NH still is not a massive job hopping state - New England in general appears to be loosing more higher education related jobs than it is creating. Cost of living keeps going up, but salaries are relatively stagnant. Just wait until NH needs to enact a state income & sales tax to pay for the illegals to go to UNH at state rates! We'll look forward to your comments then. They said it will help about 200 kids to provide CT with a more educated workforce. What about all the kids from CT that go to college? Just remember - most companies will hire the cheaper candidate, over the candidate with experience. |

Governor.Rell@po.state.ct.us
Send Governor Rell an e-mail and let her know how completely ridiculous this bill is, and that she needs to VETO it! Rewarding people that break the law with breaks like tuition is wrong on so many levels. The tax burden continues to rise in this state and this is another example. This will help open the floodgates of illegal immigrants seeing yet another free pass in America. Let's send Rell a message that we do not agree with this and let the legislature know that grabbing headlines with these left-wing bills will do nothing but get you to not be elected the next time around. I said it once....I'll say it again.....IDIOTS !!!! I know I won't forget when it is election time....but its the other people out there that either just don't get it or are just as much IDIOTS like the democraps...(sorry...had to say that, I saw it in a previous blog and thought it was a typo, but p and t are to far away on the keyboard to hit accidently) Why don't we just pay their tuition, room and board and books....and then support them till they find a job, and then subsidize them for the rest of their life...while we all go into deeper into debt.

I agree with PPG. I have already emailed Governor Rell. Please, please email or call her and end this madness.
A poll on WTIC AM's website shows that 98% of those taking the poll are opposed to this absurdity. We have children in our own state who have needs for basic health care that are not being met. School budgets are suffering from lack of promised state support. That is where our compassion should be directed, not to children who should not even be here. They have already consumed taxpayers' resources by attending public elementary and high schools in Connecticut. They can attend college in their country of origin or obtain a student visa and pay full tuition as do other international students. When will politicians start listening to their LEGAL constituents? |

I applaud the State Senate. After all what sense does it make to allow these children into our elementary, middle and high schools and then dump them when it is time for them to go on to higher education. They will contribute more to our society as college graduates than they would as high school graduates. I don't understand why it is that not one of you who are opposed to this measure are not calling your elected officials clomoring for them to stop letting these youth into our public schools - do you not realize that your property tax dollars are going into the coffers that are used to allow these "illegals", as you call them, to go to the public schools in your towns and cities. I do not necessarily agree with this legislation, but I think that these children should also not be given the false hope that they can succeed, when they can not, and I would rather they got good paying jobs that pay higher taxes instead of the alternative.

How can our politicians be so out of touch? I am very disappointed and hope voters remember this at the next election. I, too, will e-mail Gov. Rell.

Why don't that at least require the student to be a resident in the school systems at least 6 years? If the number of years is increased perhaps we won't see an influx of transcient families who see this obsurdity and move here so the kids will get in by the two year time and cost us all more. Cuz we all know that it is the tax payers who are truly footing the additional burdens not the state.

I can fully appreciate this measure was motivated by good and well meaning intentions. That doe not excuse or even dampen the fact these people are undocumented and illegal. As such, they are non-citizens being afforded state resources and considerations designed to benefit resident-citizens only.
It seems as though our legislature is willing to turn a blind eye and operate outside the law. This is a poor and conflicting signal. It is also wrong and equally foreign to the ethical understanding of the rule of law. |

WH should be ashamed of sen. Harris-terrible public policy.

I was born in Connecticut. I then joined the Navy to serve my country. I married a person from another country in California and lived in Florida while active duty. In order to get my wife a perminate resident card the INS office said I needed to be a Florida resident. Since I was going to live there for the next 3 years I changed residents. We then were stationed in Japan and after a 3 year tour I was honarably discharged and moved back home to Connecticut. I wanted to start College again, but because I did not live in Connecticut for 1 year I would have to pay th eout of State tuition. I tried to fight it and argue the point that I was born here and so where my father and his father and my Great grand father came here 100 years ago legally. I still needed to wait one year or pay out of STATE tuition.
Because of this I strongely disagree adn I think they should pay out of state prices. They also need to become citizens of America and get there green card, register for selective service, etc.etc. It's not like the kids will be paying for their own college, it's the parents who came in illegally. If this law passes then we will have failed our own legal citizens and will have let done America's children. |
