Some people are just thoughtless. Go to any public park and you will find dumbazzes who seem to think everyone else BUT them should keep their dog on a leash. I like dogs but it gets sickening having a peaceful walk disturbed by some fool who lets his dog run wild. Here comes the dog chargibg at you while dumb dog owner chases after it shouting and yelling. Then the dog jumps all over you with muddy paws while dumb dog owner comes puffing up and trying to pull their dog away. How fun...

And many times dumb dog owner does not learn the lesson and you get jumped by the same dog over and over while dumb dog owner keeps chasing Fido shouting and looking stupid.

Why? Because every dumb dog owner, despite all evidence to the contrary, thinks his dog is well under control. Such cluelessness is appalling. Break down and spend a few bucks on a leash!

The only people dumber and more clueless are those parents who let their kids run wild shreiking and shouting everywhere they go, cuz they think the world is all about their little brats.

Yup I quit walking on the Wethersfield Green for this reason. There is a leash law in this town but I guess it only applies to certain dogs.

Same in this town. There is a park here that has trails through the woods. There are 2 signs at the entrance that state dogs must be on a leash and yet every time I go there several people have their dogs running loose all over the place.

And you know, I'd like to say i LIKE dogs very much. However, unleashed dogs that I don't know who are jumping on me frighten me. It's so rude on the owners part, the dogs don't know.

I agree. I apologize if I am out on a rainy day and there are others hiking where I am and they are bothered. I do have verbal control over one dog and the other is kept leashed all the time. However, if you come across an unleashed dog, just stop what you are doing and don't give conflicting commands. It does confuse the poor dog, the owner is giving one command and a person is giving another.

The woods and trails are meant to be shared.

Dear Highway Worker

I was not addressing you, you seem like a very nice person I have seen your comments around and you seem like a kind and logical person. I was walking on the Town Green in Old Wethersfield, there are not supposed to be unleashed dogs there. I was walking at around 6:00 a.m. and ppl who live there like to open their doors and let their dogs run out to do their business, instead of being a proper dog owner and walking them. I think those people must be nuts, folks drive down Broad St at least 40 mph, how could they stop if a dog runs in front of them? I'm a pet owner and I would never endanger my pet like that.

Oh I misunderstood your original posting. Yikes! I would never ever just open my door and let my terriers out. I have always had a secured yard. I once poo pooed the invisible fencing system...now I have it and absolutely love it. I completely agree with your posting.

Let's talk another pet peeve of mine! Barking dogs. People if your dog is barking, I mean not at people or squirrels, just barking for the sake of barking. Please bring your dog in! I can not tell you how many times I hear this in my neighborhood. I once let an elderly dog into a house in the middle of the night in an ice storm. The owner was away and whoever was watching this dog forgot about him. The poor thing was nearly frozen to death. I just let him in and gave him some cookies.

Oh I know, if your dog is barking it's trying to get your attention. Why would you get a dog and then just tie him outside all the time, I'd bark too! And leaving your dog out in a storm is unforgiveable, what's wrong with folks?

I get frustrated when walking on trails or in parks. I love dogs and have one myself, but in public people should use a leash. Many times I have been walking a trail and had a dog (sometimes more than one) come barreling up and jump all over me, muddy paws and all. Then the owner will come racing up shouting at the dog to come back. That defeats the point of taking a peaceful walk. And then I will see that same scene played out when the dog spots another person.

How ridiculous that a person will spend their entire outing chasing an out-of-control dog and shouting like a fool!

Two weeks ago there was an older man on a park trail with a young, but nearly grown, dog. The dog chased us and jumped us 3 different times. Three times this guy came huffing up shouting to the dog. I finally asked him how many more time we'd have to put up with this? He said he was trying to train his dog. Okay, so the rest of us have to deal with this in a public park? We went for a peaceful walk, not to be constantly jumoed by the same dog and listen to this guy running through the woods shouting. It got worse every time another unleashed dog came around. Some people are just clueless, and thoughtless.

I walk my dog at night in the neighborhood. There is this house that is always dark, totally dark, at that time, and I can hear a dog barking and howling inside. Would it kill these people to leave at least one light on for the dog? How would they feel being locked in the dark waiting for someone to come home? Put in a few of those nightlights that have the sensors and go on when it gets dark.

Here's my best story...I was at a dog friendly motel and I was sitting in a chair outside my door enjoying the evening. A car pulls in and this couple starts unloading luggage. The woman has a dog on a leash and starts heading for their room which is 2 doors away from mine. Five feet in front of where I'm sitting the dog squats and leaves a huge pile. The woman stands there waiting, just a few feet in front of where I'm sitting, and when the dog is done she marches into their room and shuts the door. I couldn't believe that audacity of that woman. It's bad enough when people are alone and they pull that stunt, but I was sitting right there and this pile was in front of MY room. I picked it up with a bag, dumped it in front of her room and then hung one of the bags provided by the motel on her doorknob.

Haaa! HHAA!!! OMG...I wish I could have seen their faces when they saw that the next morning. LOL!!

I was walking at a state park these women came jogging in dogs off leash. One dog stops and does his business, I yell over would you like a bag. Oh no, the owner replies, it is far enough off the trail. Sorry, honey, but if I can see it, it is not far enough off the trail. I just said, well alrighty, and went about my merry way. I always clean up, unless they are into the brambles and I know no one will step in it. But if I can reach it, it gets cleaned up.

I mean really people do not train their kids anymore, do we really expect for them to train their dogs?

Excellent point. I was reading a column about raising children and the writer stated that the problem with parents is that they think the world revolves around their kids, and that's why so many people don't expect their kids to behave in public. It may be the same with discourteous dog owners. Like Icky Poo, we have a very nice green in this town. There must be a dozen of those mutt mitt stands with plastic bags all over, and still the place is full of dog poop. There are also trash barrels there, so what the H is the problem? Some people will avoid cleaning up after their dog even when there are people all over that saw them do it.

Michelle, I hope you found him! And you may want to get him fixed now. This will curb the door dashing a little obedience certainly would help.
