Wow. I haven't been down to POW in many years. It's hard to imagine any of the cottages being torn down for a garage. Part of the fun was pulling into the unpaved driveway after going to Hallmark's ice cream!

Very well said. It is a travesty what has happened on the CT shoreline over the past decade. Shameless hubris and a complete disregard for any nostalgia. Not to mention the self-dealing and opportunism of many officials on the association boards of directors - especially POW - enough to rival the shenanagans of Waterbury, Bridgeport, etc. Gombossy could do an expose, for sure. Also, where's Dick Blumenthal when you need him...

Luanne is right on. It is a selfish and damaging act to destroy the natural beauty and harmony of this special place.

POW is a place of charm, grace and beauty honed over time - shame on you; greedy developers and plastic McMansion builders. Having money doesn't necessarily mean having class. Laws are needed NOW to stop this horrible recklessness.

These are worthy sentiments. We all resist changes to the images of years gone by. Still, a hundred years ago others were probably resisting the erection of cottages on the pristine coast. Times change, but people don't.

I am so glad someone has the courage to write so beautifully about such a precious place. It is horrible that people are so greedy and destructive, why are more people not standing up against this?

I share your sadness. The same thing is happening in towns all across CT, not just at the shoreline. And the worst part is that all these McMansions will become worthless dinosaurs when the price of energy goes through the roof.

Hey Luanne, I agree. POW is a bit of heaven with all it's 1950's charm. My bit of heaven, Crescent Beach was ruined for me when I was 11 with that nasty Millstone. I use to imagine the Indians living off the land and walking the bluff and catching fish. I loved that place and I still do love my memory of it. Millstone is a cancer, some say literally. Did you see the Courant today where the 1st selectman of Waterford wants to expand the power plant?

it is so sad to think that such a large chunk of POW history is missing from the landscape. I have read many of Ms Rices' book and met her at a book signing this past summer and she has always tried to keep her private life of POW just that private so for her to make a statement and let all her fans in on her little piece of heaven shows how much she love this beatiful place. I have a suggestion to the new owners,
Take the time and read "True Blue" and see if you don't find your self in the story. why would anyone want to take a home full of such history and distroy it. Ms Hubbard must be turning in her grave.

Daily Horoscope for November 8

Cancer

Try to find a balance while the Moon passes through your second house of personal finances, challenging deceptive Neptune in your house of other people's money. You may be giving away too much, whether it's tangible or intangible things. Then again, this is a potentially spiritual time for you. Just remember, you don't have to give away everything and join a convent to be cleansed.
