A very one-sided, anti-police article. Not very responsible.

I'm sure it gives the cops a big ego boost to scare a few teenagers with dogs and infrared sensors. None of those cops could find the Wesleyan murderer, so the jack-booted thugs compensated for it this way.

Kids will be kids. I am reminded of my youth, where we would gather together with a few cases of beer, and have a party out in the woods with a few dozen people. The bullet point here is... we were drinking BEER, and we weren't driving around. It bothers me to no end, when the police, or DEP breaks up parties like this... forcing kids to dispurse, and hit the road. I understand that the cops are trying to prevent injury... but, you know... life happens! I would rather see a few minor mishaps in the woods (or at a house party... or whatever...), than youth driving around town, drinking IN their cars, trying to evade the police. Putting them (AND the public) in a WORSE situation. Instead of 40 kids, at a supervised party... you have 40 kids driving drunk. And, then we will be reading of the bus full of church goers being hit by one of said drivers. Speaking of teen drinking... I won't even bring up the fact it is easier (and cheeper in some cases) for a teenaged person to get heroin, than it is to get beer. What are we worried about THIS article for?

This is an excellent illustration of what happens when the nanny state goes too far. The band of fools on the hill abused their authority and over legislated once again. I don't blame the cops. They're forced to come out and deal with this. If a kid gets hurt and they didn't try to find/capture him, they'd also be blamed. I blame the morons that make these laws. Under the current setup, a parent can be charged for giving their 20 year old child a glass of wine with dinner at home. It's nothing short of obscene and the legislators need to answer for this. It's one thing to account for obviously irresponsible and harmful behavior - quite another to have the state at dinner table. The laws were working before the latest set of "improvements". The idiots in Hartford, including Jodi, need to undo what they have done.

What no helicopter with a nightsun beam to catch all those law breakers. Call or write your rep and tell them their law goes to far. If I give my older yet underage son or daughter a glass of wine at dinner I'm breaking the law, that's a joke.

What is safe about 15 year old's consuming so much alcohol that they must be admitted to the hospital? Why would any parent think this is ok???? And not all kids drink to excess...some parents have done their jobs and taught their children about the dangers of consuming too much alcohol. Never mind the obvious drunk driving dangers, but female drinkers leave themselves so vulnerable to rape and all types of abuse. It is time for parents to be parents and not "buddies".

Ralph and his enableers-- 1. Stop talking about the kids coming all the way from NY--the border is only a few miles away. That is like kids coming from Farmington to a party in West Hartford. It is to be expected. 2. You can serve your kid a glass of wine at dinner at your own house. You cannot serve your neighbor's kid a beer in the woods. 3. Did any idiot think about the bigger public health issue than kids drinking after the prom in the dark? What about kids having sex after drinking after the prom What would Ralph the fireman say if Missy gets pregant or if Mary says that Joey forced her to have sex when she was drunk? Ralph may think that the neighbors are happy he supervised this drinkfest, but would they be happy if it resulted in teen pregnancy or Alex Kelly type high school rape charges? 4. Every high school has rules regarding athletes and drinking. Did Ralph know that the kids he coached in Little League will be kicked off the baseball team at the high school because of this. You understand, the school will know the names of everyone who was there because it will all be posted on Facebook. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

What world are you living in. No matter how good of a parent you are and no matter what you teach your children they are going to do it and learn for themselves. teh responsible thing is just knowing your not exemt from this and let your kids know that they can call you 24/7 with no problem. We all have been through this and our children are going to do the same. we as parents need to know the truth. Are you drinking tonight? Who will you be with? Are parents home? Who's driving? Etc. It'g going to happen. We need to be more open with our children so were no surprised by that phone call. I do not condone teen drinking at all, but if my child is going to do it. I want to know. I have three teen daughters and I have spoken to all of them and their friends. They need the buddy system and watch out for each other so things don't happen. Know who your partying with and don't allow for these things to happen by consuming too much. We can only hope we raise them right, the rest is up to them.

I love this "parent", described as a "model adult", saying that telling 15 year olds they cannot drink, is just spouting negativity? Obviously, this is a guy who is more concerned about being thought of as "cool", then he is concerned about the well-being of the kids at the party. Why didn't this jerk call for help when the party got out of control? This clown deserves to be arrested and humiliated. Boo-hoo for the kids who hid from the cops, and then got scared because the cops came looking for them. THE COPS WERE LOOKING FOR KIDS WHO MIGHT HAVE NEEDED HELP! Imagine for a second if the cops, knowing there were drunk teenagers in the woods on a riverbank, decided not to round the kids up so as not to scare them. Then one of the kids dies of alcohol poisoning. Or a drunk kid falls in the river and drowns. Are we going to be happy with the cops then? Let me get this straight. These underage kids are drunk, hiding in the woods. The cops yell "come out", and I'm supposed to fel sorry for a kid who runs away and is so drunk that he slams into a tree? Boo-hoo.

Outrage in Litchfield County? Yes, but not from the parents of drunken youths. I guess the defending parents would prefer to have their child's brains and entrails smeared across Rt 7 from a drunken head-on collision, and maybe kill someone else who happened by. Your kid is drunk and running from the cops and scratches his arm and you blame the cops? What kind of stupid, stupid little mind do you possess? Anyone who would defend this behavior - defacto illegal use of a drug - is part of the legions of dolt parents who defend their child no matter what that child does. Enabling dangerous behavior is galactically bad parenting.

"Wait a minute here, using police dogs and infrared guns against kids?" the parent said. I think they used the thermal imaging and police dogs to search for kids who might be passed out. Dzenutis would be facing different charges and there would be heartbroken not "annoyed" parents if one of those kids had died from alcohol poisoning. And of course the police would be at fault for not searching. It sure seems like an overreaction but the consequences of under reacting could have been tragic. Once the police and ambulance are called, they have to be thorough, especially after the drunk kids scattered into the woods. I know the dad was trying to do the right thing but it's quite predictable that a party like that can get out of hand. It's a different world now with too many laws and lawsuits.

As a parent of 2 young boys, I have not had to deal with this situation yet. I am torn between both sides. I know how I was when I was a teen. Yea, we used to drink and drive, and we even had parties at my house and kids would drink. My Dad had to drive someone home once. But these days, you are risking everything you have. Your house, your job.....Kids are going to drink. And you want to protect them. I'd rather have my kids at my house, but it can get out of hand these days with the cells and texting. Some people think that just because you tell your kids no drinking, that it won't happpen are only fooling themself. It really is a tough call.

This story tries to lead the reader to a specific conclusion. But if you read the story carefully, the reporter mixes and matches his "facts". Let's take the "dog" issue for instance. This story reports that there were anywhere from one dog to multiple dogs. Two very different scenes,,, two very different stories. Which was it and who is lying??? And to all the liberals out there: You can't have it both ways. You can't blame the police for intruding an underage drinking party, and on the other hand, when little Johnnie and Suzie leave the party and wrap them selves around a telephone pole and the only way to identify them is thru dental records, you can't blame the police for not doing enough!!! Pick a side and STFU!!!! This society is quickly funneling it's way right down the toilet based on some of these posts!!!

I'm not sure how you conclude that its "crying little liberals." I would assume because of your comment you identify as a conservative. As a conservative, I would again assume you're outspoken against the nanny state and get very frustrated when it comes to issues such as global warming and smoking in "public" places, as you should be. Here is yet another intursion of government into private life. This man didn't even provide the alcohol. A true conservative would see this as an attack on their liberty and rights.
