Listen up racists. "Good" (how ironic?) must think any person of color is a criminal. "Good" is a racist idiot. Without revealing too much, it is obvious to most in law enforcement that this was an ASSASINATION. These two kids were the subject of a hit. Contrary to the regretable and impetuous early statements by Chief Roberts that it looked like they were robbers, consider for a second that the "ski masks" were put on these two as part of the murder.

The Federal authorities are working on this case for a two good reasons. One, Hartford PD Major Crimes has not developed an adaquate informant base. The department would do well to think about that as an "force wide" problem. The people in the community solve crimes, not the police. When that connection breaks, as it surely has in Hartford, then the alternative is to try to force people to talk. Which leads to number two. The federal law enforcement agents can haul people before a grand jury.

The most telling part of this sad investigation is that the City of Hartford could have solved this case a year ago (if someone talked). They didn't call them "gum shoes" for nothing. Get out into the neighborhoods, treat the people like friends and develop informants (say it a bunch of times and it won't sound bad). This baloney that "nobody will talk to us is getting old. It is the JOB of the detectives to develop these relationships. Many great Hartford Detectives in the past did just that and the murder closure rate was pretty damn good. What percentage is it now? Informants are not "snitches" or "rats" or the many other stupid names that "Good" might think of, they are VITAL.

You punk killers out there will now find out the hard way that the federal authorities will use alternative two very cleverly and you will be caught, prosecuted and sentenced. Then "Good" can wright a post on that. These were not just some heat of passion killings, they were executions and the assassins don't deserve medals.

Interesting comment, Ramon.
I've been following this case since the start. As you can see, I agree with you:

Soemone made money selling the guns to the person who executed these young men. Does it matter that they were up to no good that night? How many of your kids are out late at night, getting high? Did they deserve to die for whatever they were trying to do?
The Hartford Police have to get the guns off the streets, or this will keep on happening, over and over.

If the Feds are involved it means there is some bigger fish to fry. All murders are brutal, but the killings of these two it seems were almost like a message of intimidation to others. There are probably people in the community that might know who is responsible but are afraid to talk.

I love how people keep saying that the HPD needs to get the guns off of the street. I believe last years closing stats article stated they recovered over 650 guns. Be a Hartford resident, then you can comment on them. Sounds to me like they are doing fine, and I support them. People don't want to help and cooperate or they are labeled "snitches." This is not a nationwide epidemic, only some course communities like Hartford. Blame the citizens/residents of Hartford, not the police who are busting their assess trying to make the city safe. This 19yr old obviously knows something if not everything, now the Feds are forced to intervene because this kid doesn't want to cooperate. This kid is facing jail time. The feds are forcing him to talk, or will send him to jail. He could have spared himself two violated order if he just cooperated or pointed the HPD Detectives in the right direction. More money and resources that don't need to be spent.

What if the kids were stabbed? Would you be calling for knife and pointy stick control?
Think about this: Murder is against the law, yet the murderers ignored that law and shot both boys in the head with a shotgun - a weapon not usually considered under gun control legislation. What makes you think that criminals would somehow magically start obeying the law if shotguns were outlawed? Loosen your hat and try to think logically.

Anyone 18 and over can walk into any walmart in the country and buy a shotgun with nothing more than an ID card that proves your age.

"McLaurin was sent to juvenile detention centers twice after arrests for stealing and emerged with the gang affiliation, his family said. He had been arrested twice by West Hartford police — both times in the area around Kennedy Park and Oakwood Avenue, not far from Foley Street where the teens were last seen alive.

Davidson was a Boy Scout before he became a star running back at Conard."

I just love how the paper glorifies the negative, please pay close attention to the first paragraph here. So much to say negatively, but on Davidson, his good deeds in life gets one sentence!!!!!!!

How thoughtful Hartford Courant!!!
