Wait, wasn't it a couple days ago there was a long article about teachers whining how they only have time to teach to test and how evil NCLB is?

Now we have students in anti-slavery socities instead of learning reading, writing, and arithmetic?

What are these children being taught today? 27 million slaves? What utter nonsense. The state of public education disgusts me. The "hate America first" crowd is fully in charge and the courant likes it this way.

the magnet...IN MAGNET SCHOOLS...

IT IS NOT CALLED THE FOCUS...that confuses parents...all parents i have been in and out of magnets for years...AND A HIGH RANKING ...GOOD EDUCATOR...EXPLAINED IT TO ME IN DETAIL...

THE MAGNET in magnet school is simply the element ATTRACTION...so THE MAGNET IS THE MECHINSM OF THE SCHOOL THAT ATTRACTS...it is not the SYSTEM ITSELF...

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS TO KNOW...BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS THROWING AROUND THE WORD AS A MARKETING TOOL...the MAGNETS ARE BETTER...NO,..IF THE SYSTEM INSIDE THE MAGNET IS BETTER...THENNNNNN the school is better...if the MAGNET IS SIMPLY A MECHINISM TO ATTRACT AND THE SYSTEM IS THE SAME AS PUBLIC...conn cap, capitol prep, two rivers,...MORE OF THE SAME...

YES ITS CALLED....bait and switch....

BAIT AND SWITCH IS AGAINST THE LAW IN CT.

Every time I buy something lately, it seems to be made in China. I can't help but wonder if it's made by a 10 year old, strapped to a work bench for 12 - 16 hours a day. These kids against slavery are doing a wonderful thing, educating the public. Everyone needs to know that there is, in fact, slavery in other parts of the world. We have it so good that sometimes we forget just how lucky we are.

China is off limits! They can do what they want and no one says a word. Money talks, After all isnt that what its all about? Look at the Mexicans here> They are being exploited by everyone and the Liberals think its fine that they are treated like Slaves. Very interesting.

Im waiting for the teachers unions to start complaining about the magnet schools..

Dear Nonsense,

You could not have chosen a better name for yourself... The blather you are pitching is nonsense. This obviusly doesn't have anything to do with "hate America First" it has to do with the REALITY that children women and others are routinuely trafficked around the world for sexual slavery as well as all sorts of other types of forced labor. The FACT that some of these people are trafficked into America for the same purposes (i.e. check the number of arrests for illegal prostitution at various "oriental Massage spas" in CT alone) Does not mean that there is a Hate America agenda, it means that we are also part of the problem. Get educated about this world wide problem and stop spouting your "nonsense".

And while you are at it MOONBAT Hunter, hunt for some facts yourself. This work being done by the students was mostly done on their own time because they saw a problem in the world and wanted to do something about it versus just blather as most of these comments have been. These young people are setting an example that more of the adfults in our world could follow. When they have seen an injustice they have devotred their own free time towards educating others about it and doing something to make it better. How many of you Nay-sayers can say that you have done the same. Do yu have a moral compass that steers you away from FOX news and Rush Limbaugh towards taking care of any of the problems that plague our cuntry and world. Where is all of that "Compassionate conservatism" when it come to addressing the needs and issues of the truly helpless, disadvantaged and powerless??? Students actively involved in dealing with real world issues? Sounds like a pretty good education to me! I wish more self-centered kids out there were more involved in the reality of our community problems and less involved in "Grand Theft Auto IV", IM'ing, hanging at the mall or burning out their brains in front of the wasteland that is Cable TV. More power to you MLC Students you help to lead the way for your elders! Lets hope that the small but way to vocal adult world of cynics and nay-sayers does not discourage you. The purpose of your life is not fulfilled by the words of others but by the deeds of yourselves.

So learning the ugly truths about America's terrible racial history is a 'hate America First' situation?

Too bad you are too ignorant to understand the importance of this. Folks like you would rather ignore the reality of our past and pretend America is really a 'Leave it to Beaver' Hollywood set.

So sad that so many prefer to pretend everything is ok. What is said about those who do not learn the lessons of history?

Haven't you heard this term? "hate the sin, but not the sinner". It is very possible to dislike what america represents. In other terms, what our government will turn a blind eye to in other parts of the world, and even in this US. But in doing so, does not mean that there is a hate for americans, the individuals who make up this nation.

There are human rights violations all over the planet, but where there is money involved or no direct threat to our governments nation interest, nothing is said or done. It's up to us as individuals to become educated on these matters and to make sure that we elect people who will practice what we preach.

I don't believe that 27 million parents would sell their children into slavery. I couldn't know for sure though since I don't have the facts.
I would like to know where the author got her facts.

What a stupid comment. Get a clue and stop seeing conspiracies everywhere you look in the world. This article is about a real horror that most of us cannot imagine.

Wow, the moonbats are madder than a bag of bees. I think somebody struck a nerve by pointing out the absurdity of a first-generation immigrant's liberal indoctrination by the liberal elite brainwashers union.

Feel free to write another foolish diatribe full of gibberish in response to prove you just don't get it.

The students are also in the idolize Al Gore, save the earth (the sky is falling) campaign. I was in an elementary school yesterday. It was posted all over the place. Go green, save Darfur etc. It's called brainwashing. Oh and by the way you'll be relived to know that Gay/Lesbian Pride was well represented:)

the author of the article should provide the source of the number 27 million. That would make 1 out every 250 people in the world a slave.(assuming 6.5 billion people).

No, actually it's not. It's an example of a media outlet taking responsibility for its errors. You see, newspapers do that. No one else. Not TV. Not talk radio. Not the internets.

Try again sport.
