Full story: Hartford Courant

Three weeks after Hartford surgeons reconstructed his face, Nick Carbone was back in his sneakers walking through the park in the backyard of his high-rise apartment to where he was viciously attacked.

Butane you said it all and as Bob Dylan would say "You said it so well." I am in my mid 50's and I am glad I won't be around much longer because it's going to really get ugly soon.

Good luck Nick, stay out in the open away from those slithering nere-do-wells who pick on senior citizens, real men they are.

Butane--I don't always agree with you but you've hit the nail on the head this time. I'm also shocked that the Courant has allowed commentary on this article seeing as Eddie-boy has whined his will into political censorship.........

Yea, but editorializing about it is useless and there's nothing in his post that hasn't already been said. When he offers solutions and takes actions, then we've got constructive conversation! Until then, beotching about it is just what everybody else is doing...

I'm happy the Courant hasn't buckled to the useless diatribe that Eddie has been spewing. And he's been doing it for his own political agenda! I think these threads about Hartford have servered as the beginning of the end for Eddie!(Notice that no one refers to him as the Mayor or Mr. Mayor? Lack of respect for the man!)

I love this man's attitude. Instead on holding an endless pity party, he's getting right back up and living his life - and showing the miscreants who attacked him that they may have bruised his body but tthey couldn't touch his spirit. And yes, he's partly right - the systems that are now in place in our cities, towns and Country need to be fixed. They aren't functioning as they should, but there is a case of moral and ethical responsibility that's not being taught to our youngsters this days and all begins in the home.

"The issue that concerns me is the city is getting poorer. The systems created to deal with poverty in the city are outdated."
Sad, but Mr. Carbone was instrumental in implementing many of these very systems. These systems have evolved to the point where they don't cure poverty, they perpetuate it.

Prayers to Nick for a speedy recovery. I couldn't help but notice that one of the "root causes" he blames for his atttack was "predatory lenders". How about blaming it on "predatory teen criminals" instead?

Nick Carbone seems to be looking for answers to our problems, but too many of you are using this forum to just spew hatred. We could use this space to make things better. What a waste.

See King Eddie, someone in Hartford is capable of standing up under the worst circumstances and saying, "I am not a victim!!!" Mr. Carbone shows courage you can only dream of. No hallow cries of racism (though it probably was.)

Well Eddie - it sounds like people willing to attack somebody on your city streets ARE BARBARIANS.
I see that Carbone realizes the system is broken. The problem lies in one of the first things he mentioned, poverty and teenage pregnancy. These people are breeding like rabbits and just adding more and more degenerates to the gene pool. They have no ability to properly raise these kids.
Social services and welfare systems only encourage this type of behavior. It's a temporary band-aid for the problem created by something deeper down. These 15 year old girls getting knocked up don't care about having a decent job to support a family - because they just have to make arrangements with a case worker and get a check in the mail.
As harsh as it sounds - it's the endless cycle of breeding of people who shouldn't be breeding in the first place. They are breeding at a rate that will eventually out number the decent hard working folks who pay their own way through life.
People who add children to their family when they are already living in poverty are just plain stupid. They don't think. They never had to think about how to support that family because the taxpayers have always done it for them.
We are all getting poorer. Life and living is not about who can hunt the best, who is the strongest alpha male, and who can plant their seed in the most women to continue the survival of the species. Capitalism has caused humans to evolve that their ability to make money ensures their survival. Instead of helping your fellow man - the system has evolved to exploit and extort all the money you possibly can out of him. But there are many who haven't evolved to those standards. Some sell drugs or rob people to try to get by - but that only leads to a further burden on the taxpayers to place these offenders in prison.
Brilliant! May bring a tear to Eddie's Ghetto Brother eye. What a system; lazy entiltlement minded city workers, overseeing lazy entitlement minded residents. Nasty symbiotic relationship, the rest of fund the pensions and rampant breeding. Kids that play XBOX until 3 in the morning, & have breakfast. Coming to a school near you compliments of Milo the dropout's lawsuit. Like locusts, they'll consume evrything in their path.

The answer is obvious!!! When Fast Eddie decides to make crime a priority rather than attending parades, store openings, etc. and the morons on the Council show some concern it will just be more of the same.

Mr. Carbone has my admiration for the brave way he handled this tragedy. I hope the wounds heal and he will feel as good as new! Shame on the HPD for not finding the gang of punks that beat him up. You'd think they were looking for Bin Laden rather then some teens right under their noses.

God bless you Mr. Carbone. You always did the right thing and this city has gone to Hell in a handbasket.

We need leaders like you, not Eddie Perez, who doesn't even talk a good game, and is more concerned with getting city contractors to fix his house than stopping real crime.

I am beginning to think the same thing about Hartford that I think about the U.S.- ANYBODY would do a better job than this current administration!

Emil you are a fool, blame the cops, of course. Next time there is a fire, I'll blame the fire Dept.
