It's pretty well known that the SP's on the Ct. Supreme Ct.-Katz, Palmer, Norcott have put together a majority opinion in favor of gay marriage.
Lawlor and McDonald have been chortiling for months and the gay community has been holding back on civil unions in anticipation. There will be a backlash, but CT. known nationnally as a corrupt, unetical backwater state, will have to be satisfied with being in the exreme minority, given all the other states that constitutionally prohibit GM. We will very proudly establish ourselves as the bluest of the blue states, and with the influx of gays, here, Jodi, Williams, and Amann will applaud the economic boost it will give us. Expect the decision Friday, Jan. 11. |

Another great column, Susan. Just another slice of life in the Nutmeg state. Let's hope CT's Supreme Court does the right thing and recognize marriage equality.

Marriage equality for same-sex couples is, thankfully, inevitable. Doesn't matter what the religious extremists say.
The legislature in California has spoken in favor of equality. Granted the Governor is not convinced that statutory relief is possible, but prefers the courts to settle this. The Governor and Assembly in New York are clear in their support, so it's just a matter of the Senate changing a few votes. Commissions in New Jersey and Vermont are likely to recommend a legislative upgrade from unequal Civil Unions to a simpler civil marriage. THe fact that the opponents of fairness didn't even show up is not a sign these commissions are stacked: it's a sign these opponents have lost the hearts and minds of the people, as well as the opponents themselves lacking hearts and minds. The opponents of fairness claim the people have spoken. What actually happened is they pandered to fear of change in reactionary parts of the country. Honking mega-majorities in the Bible Belt are expected. These same places opposed with equal fervor and insanity the extension of racial equality. Instead, you should look at the declining percent of support in the votes in the north and west, culminating in the defeat of homophobia in 2006 in Arizona, and the near defeat South Dakoka. Those who pander fear and hate in the so-called defense of marriage simply do not have the culture behind them in the remaining states. Their desparation is shown with the attempts to ram through a federal amendment. They couldn't even get a majority in a republican controlled congress. They have lost. It's just a matter whether this is confirmed by court, legislature or popular vote. |
