Law School Dean Jeremy Paul should be dismissed. He has no place in a free thinking educational environment.

"Kaufmann said that no students actually complained to the administration about the film clip."

Political correctness strikes again. Here's a professor who is actually creating an interesting class and the administration eliminated it because someone, somewhere, may be possibly offended. Did the administration even understand the class?

oh grow up. We've all seen the spring break videos and this was r rated. Shown to a group of post grads, 22 or 23 years old. This should never even hit the paper let alone forced this guy to take the semester off. How is it we can show abortion video but this is unacceptable?

Well the Law School keep sinking with their actions. Today, they have a Panel about discrimination against minorities and they have most of the minorities represented, EXCEPT the fast growing and bigger in Hartford, and probably in CT: Latinos. Is that discrimination or what? I heard that a latino professor, Angel Oquendo (probably the only latino in the white anglo faculty), exploded and objected to leaving the Latinos out that were not even ask to participate. The Latino Law Student Association called for a bycott. A total shame for a Law School that celebrated that the dropped from 10 place to 17 in Hispanic Business Magazine List of Best Law Schools by Latinos.

Jeremy Paul couldn't lead a group of children in a game of "Ring Around the Rosey" let alone a law school community.

The man is absolutely spineless and this won't be the last crisis that he creates and then subsequently exacerbates.

UConn Law is in trouble...

There is nothing "puritanical" about this country with the following exception: People like being bigots and just need an "ideal" or "philosophy" to justify their bigotry. That held true with the puritans to the present. It has occured in various forms with "patriotism" and its "sport" mentality most historically prevalent. If any groups wants to seize power, you must "feed" the masses --- That stretches from food to other forms of diet such as entertainment --- Today, that entertainment is things such as Talk show sleeze like Jerry Springere, gambling, fast cars, pornography , bigotry, plenty of beer, football, war games and etc. Give the masses that and you can do anything that you want with them ---Think that the American people really hate the Iraq War ??? The only thing that they hate worse than war is peace ! Remember your history after Vietnam when it appeared that there would be no more Vietnams ? During the 70's the nation went into an emotional depression --- It took the first Gulf War to cure that. Remember, Nixon was reelected by the biggest vote in history to continue the Vietnam War --- War is the favorite American sport with "patriotism its "cheerleader'--- This mentality all ties into the situation with the law professor--- It is bigotry and that is what the American people love doing best of all ---They will take bigotry in any way, shape or form that they can get it until a stronger force stops them ---Can't discriminate based on race so find biogotry manifestations in other forms with sex one of the most popular choices.

Good. I am glad he is back for next semester. Heck with the politically correct and easily offended. What a bunch of wimps and crybabies. This professor causes people to think and those who are offended need to grow-up. Damn, I am sick of this PC BS!

If RB's really 69, I'm sure they're trying to force him to retire. Hope he hangs in there. This is such a big black eye for UCONN Law. Silly, silly, silly. Another embarrassment for the school, now a national disgrace. And, note that in the past they fired or declined to hire the best female professors who specialized in Feminist Legal Theory because having an acutul female feminist teach the class was waaaayyy too threatening to the good old boys who are running the school. The fact that they have not welcvomed a true feminist legal scholar onto their faculty is the real story here!!!!!

"Paul said he is committed to creating a learning environment where students and teachers alike feel free to explore issues and express controversial viewpoints but at the same time, make sure that no one feels unwelcome as a result of race, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability."

This should speak for itself. But if anyone needs clarification, Dean Paul cannot treat a faculty member the way he has, and at the same time claim to champion the rights of others. This is hypocrisy.

Dean Paul should concentrate his energy on providing the students with a diverse faculty. Ooops, that's UConn Law School's dirty little secret! Woe be to the current student that raises this issue. The law school administration and faculty would not treat you very well.

At the class reunion last May, I looked around the tent and was taken aback by the wealth of talent. The school has graduated a host of luminaries, from judges to public officials to the leaders of the bar. Yet what does the school do to publicize this?
I introduced myself to the dean and suggested that famous and accomplished alums should be featured on the web page.(Not a bad idea for fund raising either). I could not believe his reaction. He was dismissive, patronizing, and condescending. His attitude was that we don't do anything that is newsworthy. I couldn't believe it.
I mentioned this to one of the (only?) profs at the reunion and he said I must have misunderstood, that is not Jeremy's attitude at all. Well prof, the proof is in the pudding.
We all know that there are two profs on the faculty who are nationally known and respected, beloved by the alums, and for whom the alums would open their pocketbooks if either were dean. As one alum said, if either asked me for money, I would give him a blank check and tell him to fill in the numbers. Neither apparently was interested in the deanship.
As a classmate of Paul Chill's, no one is more amazed than me that he is in a position of power. No wonder the school is being crucified in the national press and in the blogs.
Not another penny from me until the school shapes up.

Who, pray tell, are these people? I can't for the life of me figure out who you mean!

Ditto your sentiments about Dean Chill. God help the school if he ever became the real Dean! A totally mediocre big fish in a little pond who hasn't had a real job in decades and has made a living out of criticizing others without ever offering any positive or constructive ideas of his own.

It definitely isn't the sycophantic professor who claimed that all of the faculty backed Dean Paul. What self-destructive faculty member is going to go against his own dean and go to the press? Dean Paul has proven he can make life hell for professors if he wants, and no one is doing anything to curb this inept dean. Dean Paul is out of control.
As to Dean Chill, people are not of two minds about this guy. Everyone is waiting for someone to remove him from office.

Hello UConn. Have you folks googled "Birmingham, Dean, and law"? My, my, you are being crucified all over the country. Quite a dean you have. Our faculty says he is our best recruiting tool. He may be an intellectual but he is certainly out of touch with the way the world works today.

But you folks really shouldn't be calling him and his assistant Mutt and Jeff. That is disrespectful. Anyway, you are stuck with him because he is tainted goods and not going anywhere soon.

Let's see if we have this right. After paying Birmingham for not teaching and inconveniencing nearly 100 students, Birmingham is back teaching more courses that anyone else. Wow. That really sends a message doesn't it. He is such a bad teacher that he can teach 3 courses rather than the 2 that everyone else teaches.

Oh, we forgot. He can't teach feminism. Wow, that dean of yours really is tough. Drags the school through the mud and the bottom line is that for showing a crotch shot Birmingam can't teach feminism. You better hope that Maher, or Colbert, or Lenno don't pick up on this. What a great time they could have. Even worse, let's hope US News doesn't figure out what a looney farm you have up there.

Oh, sorry, our faculty has said that we should not gloat over your misfortunes.

Who needs feminism? No more necessary or helpful than masculism! Men and women should just enjoy getting together and airing their differences, if not rubbing them together. That's where little lawyers come from, after all!
