Why bother doing anything if people are dumb enough to swim where they are not supposed to, then they should accept the consequences. You can only do so much for people before it gets screwed up. Such is life and that is that.

Making it safer? Where are the life vests on the employees in the boat?(see picture!) Safety starts at the top! Maybe the State should insure that their employees or contractors follow safety procedures first!!

DEP Department of Environmental PROTECTION.
Dead bodies pollute the water.
Keep 'em from drowning so the water is not polluted?
Therefore the environment is protected.
(maybe 'tis too little too late)

This is like expanding a liquor store and with hopes that people will stop drinking. It's just a waste of money and effort. What they forgot was a supply of body bags and an on site coroner. They will need them if the crowd cannot be kept under control.

State law only requires PFD's to be on board the vessel so not it's necessary for adults to wear them while they're in the boat.

With the price of gas as high as it is, I don't think the New York City crowd will be coming up like previous years. It is pretty comical to watch as they wait in traffic on Route 39 to get into the park. 7 or 8 adults packed in to small cars with young children sitting on their laps. No regard for safety at all. Hence the reasons for the needless drownings.

If you build it... they will come. It's still a cheap day for 7 or 8 people. But if its in a car designed for 5, of course the State Police should pull over motorists when they see children sitting on laps.
Let's see how many people jump the new fence.

Disgusted
|
It's disgusting that CT taxpayers are footing the bill for these improvements. CT residents can't even use Squantz Pond anymore because of the NYC illegal alien trash that ruin it each summer. Open use of drugs and alcohol, urinating and defecating in the bushes, leaving trash everywhere - let these "people" drown. Every CT taxpayer should be outraged.

The State of Ct does not care one bit about its residents all they are trying to do is prevent law suits and if you do not believe it just ask them.

"Best Park"?- not going to happen with all the NY scum allowed to ruin the place. "Disgusted" is right! More sand is not going make stupid people less stupid when it comes to swimming where they're not supposed to.

There has always(the last ten years or so, anyway) been an office for the law enforcement staff. The conversion of the former concession to office space is an effort to minimize administration costs associated with having a concessionaire occupy a building on the property. "State officials have said that the park will have an officer permanently stationed there during the summer season." There have always been DEP law enforcement officers stationed there. You've seen pictures of them.
