PatrickCT,
I agree completely. Another nuclear power plant - smaller and more efficent - would be a great use for the property!

590 acres could handle a huge trash to energy plant or a dozen fuel cells, some windmills and oil refinery. Get'er done!

I'm thinking that a new landfill for CRRA would be nice way to reuse the property.

How bout an American Casino? We can say it was built "Green". The slot machines will glow in the dark and won't need lighting.

THe perfect use for the site is another Nuclear Power Plant - it's not even funny how stupid this country is to give into the environmentalists and preservationeists. They will be the first china comes after once they take us over. Yes there is a time ans place for those issues but let's face it - we need another plant to reduce our energy costs. It's just so simple. Pathetic leadership in this country right from the top.

And didn't they ditch Penny when they made the cuts recently.

NO idea why the plant wasn't modernized and upgraded. We have the local, trained labor pool, and with hybrid/electric cars on the horizon we'll need more clean electricity generation than ever.

A new power plant would be great for this site, since the permits should still be in place for this land.
But an up to date, cleaner design is unlikely, as litigation has makes it cheaper to use the existing "approved" designs from 30 years ago.
Also, a decent solar/wind farm takes more land than most New England sites.

The highest and best use for this property is the development of a nuclear power plant.

And I bet the town would love the return of those phat tax dollars streaming in.

Another powerplant would be ideal. It would also be a good place for the army base to go.
