I live in Ohio, which recently banned smoking in all public buildings, and the smoking ban is working well. As a non-smoker it is so good to go to a restaurant knowing you will not have to deal with cigarette smoke.

One county alone spending 40,000.+ to collect a couple of hundred dollars in fines means it is not going well.

The Governor of Ohio has dismantled the smokefree organization, poof its gone.

to linda, harleyrider, sheri, and free america -

you all label bruce g as a liar (although free america used the term 'busted'). how, exactly, did he lie? let's analyze each individual part of his post and see if we can find the lie.

could this be the lie? his isp location says ohio, so we definitely don't have any evidence to state that he doesn't.

this is most certainly true.

this is neither fact or fiction. isn't the clause "working well" subjective depending on who's eyes are doing the beholding? how is it a lie if his experience is telling him the ban is working? could any of you be called liars for saying that it isn't?

maybe this is the lie? could he actually be a smoker trying to pass himself off as a non-smoker? for what greater purpose?

how could this qualify as a lie? he's stating his personal opinion. opinions are not facts.

so... where did he lie? damn, you people just don't care what words you throw around at people so long as they help you categorize your opposition for your finger-pointing needs.

"the smoking ban is working well" to put it in the words of Penn Bull$hit. A. The law isn't being followed. B. Its too costly. C.It's killing business. Good enough?

but is that enough to say he lied?

A) the law is being followed in centerville, oh where i live. all other cities i've been to are also following it. i do know of places that aren't, but this doesn't make me a liar for saying the ban is working well.

B) with success comes a degree of cost, does it not? because you feel that the costs are too dear does not make bruce a teller of lies. after all, "to incur low costs" isn't an initiative of the smoking bans.

C) although i'll agree that certain business are suffering, it doesn't mean the ban is not working. "preventing businesses from closing" is not an initiative of the bans.

bruce told the story from his perspective. this does not make him a liar.

You know, roffle or weiner or kz steele or whoever the H you are, you wear on my last nerve. It is not because you love those bans but pretend that you are a smoker, but it is because you are so pretentious. I did not speak to you in my response. I spoke to Bruce. Lying about the Ohio smoking ban going well was why I called him a liar, not for any of the pseudo intellectual pickings you made. Stop responding to me when I am not talking to you, WEINER.

there is no sucess when individual rights and the rights of private property are infringed upon. the biggest losers are all of us not just smokers.
Now for the real losers are the same idiots that wanted a ban, they will end up being the nes to pay the taxes lost because of the ban.......bootlegging has never generated tax money.........prohibition destroys tax revenue..and encourages otherwise legal activities to become illegal.....you cannot outlaw social behavior or change it.....it was tried before and was a total failure.....as it is again.........you will not change people so get ready for the higher taxes that will fall upon the liberals who embrace social mandated change....cause your gonna pay and thru the nose for it.

i don't love the bans. i simply don't dislike them. i am also not pretending to be a smoker. are you implying that i do not ignite tobacco products for inhalation purposes? do i have to prove it to you? how would i go about this?

but back to bruce being a liar...

the issue of whether or not the ban is doing well is entirely subjective. from your perspective, the ban is doing poorly for reasons that are applicable to you (failing businesses, excessive costs, etc...). bruce, on the other hand, sees the ban as doing well based on positives that he has witnessed as they are applicable to him (no smoke to breathe in, no nasty smells, better air quality, etc...). this does not make him a liar.

so not only do you not know what a hypocrite is, you also think that a liar is someone who simply espouses a different set of views than your own.

also, if you think i am going to not reply to your posts if they are addressed to someone else then think again. topix is a discussion forum. if you don't want people to reply to your posts, don't post.

this is simply how you and a select group of others perceive smoking bans. bruce is not a liar because his experiences tell him a different story. to bruce, you are a liar for saying the bans are failing. they are working for him. they are not working for you. that's all there is to it.

anyway, why are all you loose cannon jerk-offs so quick to label people as hypocrites, bigots, and liars without analyzing the actual meanings behind the words? i feel like a stressed-out english teacher amidst a classroom of degenerate kids with learning disabilities. do a few simple vocabulary words have to be such a blight on an entire discussion forum?

It is not subjective. The anti's promised it wouldn't hurt business, As a matter of face they went so far as to say that it would help business. He is part of the anti crowd and therefore part of the lie. It is that simple it is not working period

association fallacy right here. you are assuming that he is part of the anti crowd because he does not have a million and one negative things to say about the ban. because you feel that the true antis lied, he is also a liar by association.

perhaps it hasn't occurred to you that maybe he doesn't go outside his city enough to notice what business life is like in other cities? regardless, he is no doubt going by what he perceives as positive. he told no lie by stating that the ban is going well.

how do i perceive myself as an intellectual? i use all lowercase. intellectuals don't use all lowercase and i am fully aware of this.

but i see you have accepted your erroneous interpetation of the meaning of the word 'lie' by changing the subject. this is exactly what happened when i addressed yours and assyvarmit's misunderstanding of the word 'hypocrite'. you stopped addressing the topic and backpedaled the hell outta there.

way to represent your team, sheri! wooo!

Well then he either is an idiot who can't read or a lier, because everyone on here from Ohio including you admits that it has hurt business. And it doesn't matter either way.

but maybe the issue of whether or not bans hurt businesses doesn't weigh in heavy enough for him to say the ban is not working. everyone uses their own set of criteria when judging positives versus negatives. he only made one post, for criminy's sake. maybe you should give the guy a chance to fully expound on his views before you fallaciously label him as a liar.

think about it.
