It's time the government gets out of our lives, we pay taxes and as an adult I should have the right to wear or not, I ride approx. 10-15,000 mile a yr my choice is to wear but don't tell me I have to. all that causes is hate an discontent, and if people tha t drive would look for bikes there wouldn't be as many accidents, start making the idiots that don't look give up there right to drive then you will really hear complaining.

I can't stand when people say that it is your choice whether or not to ride without a helmet. Laws are in place to protect the not so smart ones in society. If you think the choice to ride without a helmet will only affect you then you're not looking at the whole picture.

When you become a vegetable from a head trauma then the tax payers are the ones who will keep you on life support the rest of your life. If you're lucky and you're not a vegetable then your family is the one stuck with the burden of taking care of you. When insurance companies pay for your medical costs then they raise my motorcycle insurance to cover their losses. I don't think there are many people out there who can afford the several thousands of dollars it cost for the Lifenet helicopter ride to rush you to the hospital let alone the other couple hundred of thousand dollars it costs to repair your dome. Someone has to pay for all that. Strap the $50 helmet onto your head and quit complaining. If you ride in a car you have to wear your seat belt and if you drive a motorcycle you should have to wear your helmet. Don't like it? Stop riding.

Everybody's complaining about paying for medical bills for riders that chose not to wear a helmet. Hell what really pisses me off is paying medical bill, food stamps and welfare for all these damn illegals and worthless bums that are too lazy to get a job!!!!!!!!!!

If you choose to not wear a helmet, then you should bear the consequence. Freedom also comes with responsibility. Some of us don't want your nanny state. Don't fly em out, don't put them on life support unless they have insurance for it. Live free / die free.

"Fulfilling a promise to [his] son", huh?

Well, seems to me that we continue to promise our children freedom and that they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up. Also seems that we have been promised freedom to make our own decisions.

Your son died. I get it. But don't take it out on the rest of us. Grieve for him--but don't think for one freaking second that the rest of the world should do as you want because you're upset. Sometimes the world is unfair and cruel. It doesn't mean that the rest of us have to feel your pain for you.

Tell you what. I've been burned by a couple of politicians and people who have made promises that they didn't keep. So, because I suffered for that, you're not allowed to make any sort of laws from now on--because I'm fulfilling a promise I made to my children that nobody would ever make unfair laws again. Sound good?

Stupid is as stupid does. How about making politicians take lie detectors about spending our money foolishly? Dumb law with false promises and claims. How does motorcycle accidents of people not wearing helments have anything to do with costing taxpayers money???? Dumb Dumb Dumb.

It's apparent that you haven't priced helmets lately. You can't run down to the Woolworth's and get a $50 Bell. Let those who ride decide...Just for argument's sake I ride AND wear a helmet.

These inconsiderate racket makers deserve as much scorn as I can muster when they ride by.

But the government has no business dictating to them how much protection they should have anytime they rev up their machines.

I think this law is more about enriching helmet makers than keeping bikers safe.

I see both sides of this argument. Is it probably safer riding a motorcycle with a helmet? Yes. But if you're going to enforce seatbelt laws it seems pretty contradictory to not have a helmet law.
That being said, at what point do we stop protecting people from themselves? Why not eliminate child seat laws too...we all survived.
Its a tough call but I think our state's legislators have far more pressing issues to devote their time to.
Maybe treat riders who choose to go helmetless like drivers who choose limited tort option for their car insurance. You go without a helmet you or your estate are limited in the amount the can sue for if its determined the other driver isn't at fault.

Heck with the helmets, is there any way to get these riders to at least go the speed limit. No problem with the “rice rockets” but when your stuck behind 5 or 6 of the HD folks riding together on a nice Sat or Sunday afternoon you can forget about getting anywhere on time or getting your projects done. I understand they are just out for a nice ride but when they are holding up a little 80 old man in his Buick on the way home from church, well, that’s just wrong.

Well just because a child got killed without a car seat, I am forced by the law to secure my kids in those death traps of a seat. So are you saying I should take my youngest out of her booster seat and you would be good with that?

The Govt could care less if you wear a helment.
The insurance companies that line their pockets sure do.
As far as I am concerned, your head will do less damage to me or my car car if you hit me.

We all own the road but we don’t own the right to hinder fellow tax payers.

It’s my understanding that HD riders go so slow because the guy in front has to guide the others since he is the only one not blinded by leaking oil spray and the guys in back have to watch for parts falling off of the bikes in the front(the best they can). Helmets hell, they could wear kites on their heads and they wouldn’t blow off!

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Scorpio

You're in a very romantic and sentimental state today. You're also feeling quite sensitive and vulnerable, so you won't want to be around anyone you find abrasive or aggressive. If you meet someone for the first time now you'll think they're wonderful and your relationship will always involve putting them on a pedestal. But don't be too idealistic. They are human, remember!
