Hows this for a reason that the DUI's went up, could it be that the BAC level went down?? Think about it.

the change to .08 from .10 occurred before the years they looked at the stats so it had no effect on the increase in DUI arrests in the years they are talking about in this article

Wonder how many people are DUI and not being caught?
Police don't sit at bars and wait for patrons to drive away because it adversely affects the bar's business.

I always like the arguements that police officers should have something else to investigate or catch a real crook.
If you are drinking and driving, and your BAC is over the limit, you are breaking the law. Quit whining or blaming/tearing down the police.
I sure the stats don't talk about all of the ones who got off because they had a good lawyer.
As a former law enforcement officer, if there were other pressing needs to be investigated by myself, it was done. Your average road patrol duty only requires investigations if you are the respondant to an incident.
the operative word is law. why does the BAC "legal/illegal" number keep getting lowered?

what does the law state about driving safely? give me the choice between riding with a "legally drunk" person or a 70 year old man or a 32 year old woman talking on the cell phone on her way to the mall, guess who i'm pickin? THE DRUNK!

I take pleasure in getting drunks off the road, because every one arrested is one that wont hurt a family or a child.
Being somebody, knowing somebody, being affluent, older etc. are all just excuses. If your drunk, your drunk and your also busted.
let's say someone is driving down the road and realizes that something sounds different with their vehicle. they pull off to the shoulder of the road to take a look. eventually, they look underneath and see something dangling. just as they stand back up and curse aloud, a distracted driver talking on the cell phone to a friend about how excited they are that barry obama is going to get the democratic nomination slams into the cursing motorist who just discovered the catalytic converter had been cut off by thiefs. the body parts are scattered for a hundred yards down the highway. thiefs can hurt people!

Call a cab. Call a buddy. Call your mom. Have a designated driver (that doesn't have a 'sip' of alcohol!) Sleep it off in the Parking lot.
Heck, how about you Don't drink to get drunk! Or buzzed.

But the minute you turn the engine over, I hope they get you! And I'll help them if I can!

Quoted because it bears repeating.

No surprise here, the arrests could total into the thousands if the police wanted to target the "watering holes." The number of vehicles parked at the various clubs througout the county are not driven by sober drinkers when the clubs close.

A reason some, not all, drivers take the risk of operating a vehicle when intoxicated is they do not think they'll get caught. Being intoxicated they're overconfident in the driving ability and cannot realize that it is impaired. Their reaction time is increased. It Franklin County's responsibility to protect all citizens from those who take the risk of DUI. Apparently, the risk (consequence) is not a sufficient deterrent. Up the ante. First offense: loss of license for two years. Second offense: Loss of license for five years.

We have lawyers, law enforcement officers, DA's and "lawmakers" driving drunk almost every day. Target some of these people as they drive away from their favorite watering hole.

OK, "suckers", what evidence can you post to support your theory? Is this your belief, your guess, your predjudice? Provide some evidence that what you claim is true.

The reason the BAC has been lowered is not to collect more money or harass people, its because it has been studied that a majority of people are impaired above that level.

As for the whole cell phone thing, I AGREE. Preachin to the choir on that one.

Oh wait.... I just mentioned something religious. Guess I'll get a whole new rant going.

You don't eevn have to turn the engine over..just have keys and your "in control off the vehicle"

Even when people do try to do the right thing some over zealous-power hungry cop wants to make a statement. They break the law all the time by lying about probable cause horse shi*. Hoe about the guy on the lawn mower in WV I am sure he was going way to fast for his delayed reaction time to save him.

I also like how the cops just seem to drive as fast as they like..hypocrits all of them. They also act like a bunch of militants instead of public servants.

It hasn't been to long ago that in little old greencastle the cops would parade around town in black t-shirts and combat boots with military style haircuts...just abunch of losers that couldn't make in the military. Never know when granny will get you with a RPG.

IMO the cops are their own worst enemy....just watch the recent video from philidelphia or some of the shows on TV and you will see abuse of power often.

What a joke is right- If someone realizes they drank too much and makes the right decision not to drive by sleeping or resting in the back seat, they will still be arrested for DUI. Even though they never put the key in the ignition or started the engine, our "law enforcement officers" will roust them out of the car and arrest them. Be Careful, they have other ways to get you when you are trying to do the right thing. If you decide to let a friend drive your car because you THINK you may have had too much alcohol and your friend says he is OK but, is also at the predetermined .08 level, both of you can be arrested for DUI. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Gotcha Again.

DUI....DWI....public intoxication.....arrested for something else...family member arrested?

Disrespect or hatred for police officers usually stems from some 'experience' with them that was not positive.

Are there some that are on the egotistical side, yes. I worked with some of them. But there are also genuine officers out there just trying to do their jobs.

If you aren't happy with the laws they are inforcing, call your local House Rep or Senator for the state.

Why should I know Tyler Peterson? Do you know Stephen Ray Starkey? Does that mean you are an inbred, uneducated POS?
And how is it that you live that you need to hate police?
Just curious..
I was adopted into a racially mixed family. My Father is an Orthopedic surgeon who was awarded the silver as a Navy Corpman in Vietnam. He was drafted as he was the son of a poor farming family in Michigan.

My 2 oldest Brothers were maternal but when my Dad came back from Vietnam he was a changed man, and he wanted to adopt children. long story short.

We ended up 2 asian girls 2 african american girls, and white crack baby me. With 2 sons of my mothers own womb.

We had to be taught was what racism was, as people would stare at us when we would go on family outings, this is the 80's mind you.

My father taught me 3 lessons.

1. Never look down upon a man unless you are helping him up.

2.Never judge a man until you have physically walked a mile in said mans shoes.

3.There are many reasons to hate a man, color should never be one.

I am married to s very successful attorney whose income allows us to love in the InterCoastal and allows me to be a full time Father to my beautiful children.

Cops are uneducated swine who prey on the weak and oppressed to fill their own fat guts while contributing zero to societies well being.

They are nothing more than a bother to clean cut white men such as myself, and I thank God everyday I wake up I am not a minority, and do not have to deal with the real fear these stormtroopers impose on the weak and less fortunate...

You sir, and I use the term "Sir" extremely loosely, are an idiot.

You mention police are un-educated, so that shows you know VERY little about the PD and their training and that most have college degrees.

You also mention three lessons your father taugh you, but based on your last few paragraphs, are lessons you fail to abide by.

You clearly have had an exposure to police activity, probably at your own doing.
