They don't mention how big a money maker removing an irresponsible driver is.

I am sure our glorified traffic cops have no other crimes to investigate.

This must be Jeff Coys fault somehow.

It is time to increase the penalty for DUI. First offense should get a sentence of "X"; 2nd offense should be loss of driver's license for one year; 3rd offense: two years in jail with loss of license for five years. You may quibble with these sentences; but the point is that the penalty for DUI should be higher. Apparently, what judges now hand down aren't a deterrent.

I would suggest that you contact the courthouse and ask to see how much those arrested pay in fines and costs. The costs charged ONLY cover testing and court related costs.

So please don't equate this into being a money making scheme, it's not !!!

That's similar to those that feel traffic citations are monety makers for the PD, it's not. They only recieve a VERY small portion of the fine.

And just imagine the carnage that would result from troopers and municipal officers not performing DUI enforcement?!?!?!?!?!

They are attempting to protect everyone on the road whose lives are at risk due to the drunks who DO NOT care if they take someone else's life. I knew Tim and Susan Cook who had their lives snuffed out by a woman who was DUI. The drunks aren't usually the ones killed in accidents.

Keep up the good work, PSP, for trying to protect my loved ones and me. You deserve much praise for your job performance!!

Maybe we can set a record by letting Sheetz sell beer & wine.

One day we get everyone wanting to purchase beer & wine everywhere & the next day an article on DUI's.

I favor seizure of the vehicle unless it was stolen. I don't care if it is mommy and daddy's car the vehicle should be seized and sold at auction. The operator should have their drivers license suspended for a minimum of six months. If the operator is underage the drivers license should be suspended for a minimum of six months or until the 21st birthday whichever is longer. If the vehicle is stolen the operator should lose their license for life and serve the normal penalities for grand theft auto. If you are from out of state we will take your car also. If states won't clear the title for auction then the vehicle should be destroyed. funds garnered from seizures or salvage of vehicle should be applied to alcohol education programs with in the state or to help fund drivers ed in the schools.

Something else for the country to be proud of. Along with lower than national average school testing scores and drop out rates, we have DUIs. Let's see the realators spin this one into more sales.

I find it interesting... in my opinion as the economy goes down, the drinking goes up.

If I liked alcohol, I could understand having to to drink to keep from crying while I put gas in my car.

I don't have hard facts, but I think you'd find the increase is the result of more DUI enforcement activities versus an increase in drinking/ driving.

The problen has ALWAYS been there.

Why don't cops park outside bars to catch DUIs? Maybe because they are either too busy drinking there or working as bouncers.

I always like the arguements that police officers should have something else to investigate or catch a real crook.

If you are drinking and driving, and your BAC is over the limit, you are breaking the law. Quit whining or blaming/tearing down the police.

I sure the stats don't talk about all of the ones who got off because they had a good lawyer.

As a former law enforcement officer, if there were other pressing needs to be investigated by myself, it was done. Your average road patrol duty only requires investigations if you are the respondant to an incident.

All the time on the scanner there are cell phone calls which are being made to the State and local police from concerned drivers about other drivers that they know who have just left a bar or a party. It does not matter whether the person could be driving home not causing any harm to anyone else the police departments are alerted to look for these vehicles that are reported to the cops...We have auto parts being stolen in broad daylight but the police are more concerned with getting better totals for dui and sitting with a radar gun on exit 17 overpass......

Yep and I guess no-one saw these guys/ gals under the vehicles, in broad daylight, cutting the converters off either!!!!

The PD can't be everywhere and there will be crimes committed that are not reported, not investigated and no arrests made, that's part of life.

You morons will bitch if they make DUI arrests, if they don't make DUI arrests or for any reason to bash/ attack the PD, no wonder we have the problems in society!!!!

I love to listen to the idiots whine. Try this one on for size. If your drinking and driving you ARE a real criminal... and you're worse than the guy cutting the converter because they dont harm people.
I take pleasure in getting drunks off the road, because every one arrested is one that wont hurt a family or a child.
Being somebody, knowing somebody, being affluent, older etc. are all just excuses. If your drunk, your drunk and your also busted.

Drunk driving is a very serious offense. Be drunk at home. I hope Franklin County gets serious about cracking down.
