It's obvious that "separate but equal" status is not equal.

Go Figure.......Civil Unions or Domestic Partnerships simply AREN'T acceptable......New Jersey put together a Commission to study the effects and ramifications of Civil Unions. They discovered that most employers DON'T know what they are, not sure how if they have to follow them and simply ignore them because they AREN'T a legal and binding.......in other words.....TRULY NOT BEING EQUAL TO MARRIAGE AT ALL, but simply a pacifier to get the GLBTQI Community to SHUT UP and SIT on the Back of the Bus!!!

Another way to put it; "if it was equal it wouldn't need to be separate"

Ask me about civil unions and their lousy crumbs. I have had to pay tons more taxes because my partner and I were not protected by the hetero spousal deductions. That's why I never get why some of our favorite haters scream and moan about how gays are costing THEM more in taxes. I pay taxes with both hands.

LUCKILY, California has recently let us, as domestic partners, pay jointly which was a grand savings the last few years. However the feds aren't letting it happen, YET.

A few states now have civil union provisions that purportedly have all the benefits of marriage. In some of those states, I suspect that a couple could see some state tax advantages. But let's face it, federal taxes are a much larger chunk of personal taxes, and civil union'ed or not, married or not, none of us get the tax advantages at the federal level that our hetero friends and neighbors take for granted.

I know that when I check on what my federal taxes would be were I able to file as married, it's a difference of about $5000. Year in and year out. Despite the fact that I've been partnered for about 30 years. I could have bought a house for that...

Luckily, you live in a community property state. That means you can split your combined income equally between two separate tax returns. In many cases, you will be as well-off as you would be filing jointly. In some cases, gay couples splitting their income will actually be better off than married couples filing jointly.

Mark and I, however, have to file our individual incomes on our own returns.

Is this community property provision applicable to both state and federal taxes?(just wondering)

Delaware is not a community property state, so id doesn't apply to you. But the theory that the IRS announced under Obama is that, since each partner shares equally all income and assets in a community property state, the federal government will treat all income as equally divided between the partners. So if one earns $100,000 and the other keeps house, they file separately and each reports $50,000 in income.

Obviously, they file jointly in states that recognize their marriages.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Leo

Today's Full Moon will affect your love life significantly during the next few months. You might have to say goodbye to someone you care about, or you may realize some difficult truths about your relationship. You may also have to make a tricky decision about a child or a creative project. Although this won't be a very easy time, don't make it worse by over-reacting and turning every hitch into a major drama.
