I wouldn't dare speak out for Journalists, because of all the corrupt information they spread to the public. Journalism was a form of speech that was supposed to report the truth, not the spin or the SENSATIONALISM it has become. I am a former Journalist student graduate. I did reporting and in a few cases I had my life and family threatened when I exposed a story that was threatening. Eventually, I had to move for the safety of my family but I still kept on writing and reporting until I saw the direction the news was going in. I had been told by my editors to report the news that is current which I did but my editors did not like what I reported because it was the truth. They wanted a spin to evoke a response from the people but that was not my purpose in writing a story that was truthful in print.
Eventually, I went Independent and have had better luck reporting and having my articles published to more than one paper. It is about getting the truth out to the public, not a human interest story or any other sensational idea to evoke an emotional response. Let the facts speak for themselves as reporting is supposed to do. Let the people make up their own minds about what they are reading.
Journalism reporting is destroyed by people who slant their opinions and facts and corrupt information. I was told many years ago by a teacher at LB Community College quote "report the truth that the people want to hear, it does not necessarily have to be the truth" - Nancy Redmond, LB Community College. Well Nancy, I guess you win!
