"Halloween" comes from a pagan ritual celebration of the Fall Equinox or some such. It was an autumn rite of some sort. In the centuries past, the Christian Church worked hard to convert the pagans, and placed Holy Days on or near the pagan holidays to make it easier for them to convert over. All Saints (placed the day after All Hallows Eve) was a holy day of obligation until the 80's sometime.

Somewhere along the lines, the two days got blurred into Christian culture with the harvests, fall festivals, and passed of hundreds of years.

Similar thing with Christmas and Gift Giving. Christian Chrsitmas was placed in December to compete with the Winter Solstice pagan rituals ... then the Christian stuff with gifts on the Feast of St. Nicholas of Myra (Dec 8) got jumbled into the whole christmas thing.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Leo

Even though you usually pride yourself on being the strong silent type, love has a way of unlocking your tongue. The words coming out of your mouth may be familiar, but your sense of timing makes all the difference right now. Keep in mind that you never know how a risky gesture will work out, although you can always hope for the best. When in doubt, take the more cautious path.
