So these management teams make a grand strategic decision to merge the companies, only to back out because they do not want to do more paperwork?

Read the article you dummies it basically says the socialists in Washington are the roadblock between two PRIVATE companies that wish to merge. I can only hope those dummies who voted for Obama lose their jobs because of this meddling.

Maybe Utz was afraid of the FTC uncovering something, like where the profits are going. Maybe they are going to the Island of Avalon?

government can't monitor the stock market or banking industry properly but they can protect the economy against two small snack companies in little hanover from merging into a snack food monopoly. yet another example of government working for us!

Maybe if Utz did a better job of managing their company, they would be in a better position to expand themselves. EG. putting profits back into the company, not buying vacation homes at the Jersey Shore.

Why does'nt the government look into these large supermarket groups and owners taking money from the likes of Frito-Lay(monopolizing space) while cushining their personal investment portfolio's with Pepsico. Conflict of interest? I think so!

I don't think that Utz backed out because the paperwork was too daunting. That's just a convenient excuse.

Great news. Utz has better products than Snyder's
in the first place. Why have the goons at Snyder's
screw up a great product line. I agree with Joke,
he has it right!

You really are a dufus. Why would anyone mess with an already established, successful product line?

Your an ASS....Thousands of people are
employed by these two companies...Its just
amazing what little regard some of you have
for businesses who contribute to the financial
well being of our communities. Perhaps you
Phillie Phantatic should get off your lazy
ass and do something positive instead of
spreading your ill will on the message board.

The merger failed because of neither company could agree on the amount of snackmosphere in their packaging of snack foods . Utz wanted more air and less product in the bag of chips great for those watching their weight but bad for those with a bad case of the munchies !!

Now, now, now....don't put words in my post that don't exist. I said NOTHING about the employees, just that the products that these two companies make just plain SUCK.

PS - learn how to spell so you don't look like even MORE of an idiot.

BINGO we have a winner here. That's why he wanted to sell to begin with. He needs to get his hands on some more cash.

This didn't work not because of the FTC but because Rice did not want to go through with it for one reason or another. Something caused him to raise a red flag and decide to pull out of the deal. I think it is sad to be honest with you because it could have been a good thing for Utz as a company and the Utz employees involved. This merger would have almost certainly meant more business for Utz as they could be more competitive on a national level. As far as the "air in the bag" idea: bags are filled according to weight and no amount of air in the bag changes that target weight. As a person who works in an industry I can tell you that it is actually harder to get a good seal on a bag when there is more air in it. This is sad news for the local snack industry.
