What Romney doesn't talk about is how he succeeded in Utah with government help—lots of it—and how millions in assistance that he pried out of the feds ended up bankrolling subsidies, sweetheart deals, and giveaways for land developers and other well-connected Utahns.

In fiscal year 2011, the federal government spent $3.6 trillion on the services it provides, such as national defense, health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security benefits for the elderly and disabled, and investments in infrastructure and education, in addition to interest on the debt (see our Policy Basics on “Where Do Our Federal Tax Dollars Go?”).

Of that $3.6 trillion,$2.2 trillion was financed by federal tax revenues and $83 billion by excess profits on assets held by the Federal Reserve.

Not sure we really want to give this good advice to the GOP. I've gotten so accustomed to them being nitwits and religious extremists that if they stopped, they'd leave a huge void in the entertainment portion of political TV.
I also don't want to see them come to their senses. I'm really hoping they continue their inward and downward spiral to an implosion. The Democrats are the new moderates, and actual conservatives, there's no room for another party that actually cares about the population and it's financial and physical health and well being. We need a party of circus performers, sideshow freaks, and ringleaders like Rush. Otherwise the GOP base has to become normal and no longer paranoid and ranting about socialists and Muslims. Where would the fun be in that? Plus, like most Americans, we love a good train wreck.
We also have a reputation to uphold as a world leader in general population ignorance. We've cornered that market and are expected to be seen as over-indulgers and materialistic and just plain stupid. The joy shown by the rest of the world when Obama was elected the first time brought a tear to one's eye. The relief expressed around the world when Obama was re-elected was the icing on the cake that was this election cycle. We need the Republican party to continue on this course. they need to learn more than a few lessons about how badly they screwed us, on their own, by their own mistakes, and at their own expense.
The GOP and their ilk have cost this country dearly, and I think it's only fair they pay for it the hard way. They didn't give one crap about the citizens over the last four years. The House Republicans should be charged, tried, fined, fired, and hung out to dry. You suck House Republicans!
So yes, please continue on as the holier-than-thou party. Please continue to try and rule over women's reproductive rights. Please keep saying that being gay is a choice. Please continue to be the severely conservative, tin foil hat-wearing, party of the elitist, rich, white, male, God-fearing Grand Old Party, so that the sane, caring, Democratic moderates can continue lead and to look out for all of our best interests.
