This is a sad sign of the
faltering American economy.
This story is going to be
repeated in the Hawaii tourist
economy next year but in a more
dramatic way. Tourist count will diminish by 20%. It is
the only subject the politicians
should be discussing in Hawaii.

Remember the US dropping bombs at Truk Island (now named Chuuk) and other areas of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) way back when? Well to make up for that fact, they get to come and go and work and play in the US as long as they don't become criminals. Criminals would then require a Visa from the State Department, and are subject to deportation.

This is a good time to be a Chuukes because you wouldn't worry about getting laid off because you are jobless.

I believe it is the time to return the workers that like to drink, and couse trouble instead of work hard and try to send some money to suppport their family back home. And those who are truley working hard for their family need to look for other jobs anywhere in the us.this is USA, jobs everywhere, its just the matter of what you like to do.

Kasehlehlia! Unfortunately, there is little paid work back home on Pohnpei, unless you want to drive a taxi. It is sad that the Micronesians on Maui got a chance to get a little bit ahead, and now will be out of work, competing with everyone else for the few jobs out there. I wish you all the best in your search for survival.

I wonder if these laid off islanders know that they can draw unemployment benefits from the employment comission in Hawaii through the Federal Government. The amount of this aid depends on the length and salary of the employee. Just trying to help:)

Kaselelia,
I do feel for you my brothers/sisters from Pohnpei that are working @ ILWU, our prayers to you and including all other Micronesians working there along with you guys,I sured felt how and what you guys are going thru right now, but believe me God be with you guys and every decision you guys make no matter what the economy is, I myself got the same problem guys working and helping family back home and my own little family up here, so i wouldn't mind suggesting you guys to try it out with some nursing programs, anywhere hospitals adults/childrens, nursing homes, clinics, group homes, adult cares facilities, day cares and so forth, any where, where you know that you have to take care of someone due to illness or ages becomes a factor, might be a good place to start with due to their needs and cares which is happening everyday. And for sure maybe a little pay cut might be happening other than layoff that I've seen so far doesn't come that easy during these economy downturn to my opinion, so please my brothers and sisters out there try it out it never hurts and it sure does pay pretty good! And God bless you all and we'll keep praying for you guys! kaselel kumwail!

My advise to my struggling brothers out there(especially the Pohnpeians). Never Never Give up or get discourage. The best thing we can do is keep looking for job and don't stop because there are jobs but only those that seek for it are the one that gets it. It is clear from the scriptures that "if you seek, you will find. And if you knock you, it will open unto you." And remember that this is a promise from God and He never lie, but He keep his words.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
