Does anyone know what the park is called acrosss from Warwick High School? I learned to drive on those roads back in there. There used to be picnic areas and two or three dead ends to the river. The main road went to the back of it and came out on River Road beside Homer L Ferguson's home that I think is still in the woods there covered with vines and such. The road is fenced off now to this park. Sometimes I see it open in the front but never to the back anymore.

That's good, I wondered because there is a dividing fence there between the Nolan Trail and that area. |

I remember my mom dropping me off there with my brother and sister with our own bags of popcorn. The movie only cost a dollar, but she was trying to save a few bucks. We also went to the Putt Putt in Warwick Village for "Dollar Day" during the summer. She would drop us off and leave us for HOURS. Of course that was the norm in the 1970s. |

Beach and will call us sometimes and say PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON MOM AND DAD, LETS GO TO JACKS AND GET A STEAK. HA. There are not many nice family restaurants like Jack's anymore. What a shame. |

Hey Everyone,
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. My husband and I got that wonderful virus that is going around. Two people came in my shop and coughed and sneezed and told me they were so sick with a virus. How wonderful. the next day we had it. But I am so thankful that we are feeling much better. Feels like a truck ran over you. ha. ha. Who remembers making a long chain out of chewing gum wrappers, where you tore them in half and folded and folded and hooked them together. We used to do that at Pajama parties. Who out there used to call a gas station or drug store if they had Sir Walter Raleigh in a can. If they said Yes we do, then you laughed and said Well let him out. And then the "Is your refigerator running" one. ha. My grandmother caught us doing that one time and boy did we catch it. She used to bring this medicine powder called Sal Hipatica with her from NC. and if someone at the pajama party was sick , she gave it to us. It was horrible Who remembers 4 way cold tablets, and asper gum. YUCK. In YC. we had good old DR. Bailey come to our house when we were sick. But we did go to the Childrens Clinic and I took my children there. Our Dr. when we were little was Dr. Beavens, and my children loved Old Dr. Hogge and did not care for Dr. Booth that much. I do remember taking that shot in the arm before starting school, my husband and I still have that scar. I remember taking the sugar cube with the pink on top. ha. at York High School. How about when you had the German Measles and had to stay in a dark room. A What a Burger would taste good right now. haven't had one in years. OR a good breakfast from Blue Star Diner. ha |

Who remembers or who had a fizzy fountain. I loved that thing, the fizzy drink was gross but I loved pouring it for everyone. ha It had two tubes and a fountain base and tablets with different flavors that you disolved iin water. And little cups to go with it. I never remember my mom buying us a Halloween costume, she either made it or dressed us up as someone or something. ha. I remember seeing the Sound of Music at the Rocking Chair Theater with my mom. And getting those little plastic oranges with the juice inside. |

I grew up on Palen Ave. Guess it kinda gives away my age, but the first movie I ever got to go to by myself was James Bond "Dr. No". I think I was eight or nine. My Dad let me walk up to the Village by myself. |

Anyone remember the "Jesus is coming" sign along Warwick Blvd on the hotel that used to be where the CNU stuff is now?

Who remembers when the Village would have summer movies for the kids...really cheap! You'd buy the tickets at school. We'd buy tickets to see 3 movies. I remember seeing Paint Your Wagon, True Grit and what was that one with Brooke Shields on the island? Made me blush. We'd also go to Roses next door and buy candy to take in with us. The bathrooms had curtains and were a little 'worn'. I saw The Sound of Music at the NewMarket rocking chair the. also and remember the orange drinks. I also saw Gone With the Wind there. It was my mothers favorite movie.

Yeah, that was Lotz Realty. Mr. LOtz was a fanatic. He developed Hidden Estates and at one point refused to sell any of the homes to Jews. That was before they started cracking down on discrimination laws. I remember how mad everyone would get when that development was first going up but how pretty it was. |

Please take your hateful, spewing drivel to another forum. This is a light hearted trip down memory lane, not an attempt to start race wars. There's enough of that elsewhere in Topix. |

So who do you hire to raise you 'DISTESPECTFUL BRATS'? My parents had a lady that came to our home everyday in a car GIVEN to her by my parents, maintained by my parents, she was there when we got home from school, cleaned the house, but you can rest assured that my mother had us make our beds and straighten our rooms and we all picked up behind our selves EVERYDAY so Odell would not have so much to do, the only day we didn't have to make the bed was on laundry day and then sometimes we would forget and STILL make our beds! We knew that if we EVER gave ANY adult any lip or showed any disrespect that there would be hell to pay from no on other than my PARENTS! We loved Odell and when her health got too bad to come to our home we were heart broken. She was never treated with anything but love and respect. Now 30 years + years later I still think of her with love and respect. Get off you race wagon. There are other forms that you can go to to spew such BU11SH7*! |

I see what a wonderful forum this has been and you come here with your negativity and ruin it all. Must be the Grinch of Christmas hanging around! Move on buddy, if you want to be bitter there's other forums to go to. Leave this one alone. |
