I don't think King Crab is on dvd or rentable.
It was filmed in 1980 and some scenes were filmed in Fuller's, I think.

I spent many an hour in the foozball parlor near Anna's,but I can't remember the name..was it "Time Out" or "Windup" maybe?

I remember the Green Acres outdoor movies on Pembroke av. We use to drive through the exit with the lights off. Those were bad movies because the speakers on the poll never worked and you went driving from poll to poll.

Yeah, that's where it was. And yes, my mom did the books - I actually have 2 filled books that sit in my china cabinet - wonder if they are worth anything.
I was eating a mediocre tomato last night and remembering my parents use to buy veggies from Sealy's farm on Bellwood Road. There was also an aqua colored house on Big Bethel not too far from Saunders Road where they would buy produce. Don't get tomatoes like those anymore.
My folks also did the S&H Green Stamps thing. I remember having a children's table they got for me using those.

If you remember How cool Buckroe was, Or how cool BUCKROE is today, then you better show up at the Hampton City Council meeting tonight at 7pm. Because THEY are going to give the rest of the open space left at Buckroe to the HHA so they can inturn hook up there good buddies. We will be left with a public beach that we pay to pump sand on that we can find parking to walk on...kinda like the public beach at the end of first street.

Well, we all met at the Radison in Hampton, near the Yacht Club. I had an OLD flamer there, that was drunk, HA!
The place was called "Signals," and Pep had become a regular there. Were you living in Wythe at the time?

Remember in the 80's when Jericurl was the rage and you had to get to the community pool before the kids from Chapel Hill started showing up.

Oh no, I was in Gloucester in the process of divorce. I did go to Wythe quite often to see him. Did you ever see any pics on his frig?
I was on there climbing his tree in front of his deck. The bird got out, and I volunteered to climb the tree, he got me good on that one. I think he set me up lol

His old Maverick, he taught me to drive in, was in his garage, he was so proud of that Maverick. And it was still green lol

Howard Knight, I have not been down that way since our friend passed on. Maybe I should give it shot, a ride down for the jist of it all.

I remember all the places you mentioned to swim. I usually went to Strawberry Banks or Buckroe, not to swim though. lol I think Jaws had come out in the theatres. I am still traumatized. lol

Gosh, Howard the entire area is worth a mint.
I remember kind of run down homes and some nice homes through out the little space called Buckroe. Even then, I thought of $$$$$$$ for Buckroe. But,I have not been down to the beach per se in many years now.

It was just a matter of time before this evolved.
Every single water front beach that I have known of as a kid to the present, is being over come by big money, and little sentiment. Buckroe is not an isolated incident, it is a casualty of " I want to live on the water". It was Florida, S.C., N.C. now Virginia for water loving folks retiring, relocating, whatever....it is happening

Durn look at Grand View....??? I was aghast, homes built 2 feet from another OLD HOME. It was amazing the tightness of the building,( space) the Planning Commission has puzzled me on as well.

Howard, it is the "seller's choice" too that should be recognized as part of the issue.
Some want big money, and can let go of old family properties. It is a gamble for sure.

I wasn't there for those events, but I was there plenty of times at the house in Wythe. We have crossed paths a number of times, I'm sure of it.

Did you know Richard and Nancy Frieze? I wish we were having a coupla beers right now and talking face-to-face. Because this is important to me.8636

Did you ever go to Mill Point when he lived there? It wasn't him, it was him trying too hard.

Oh...1 more thing for now. I just saw Death of OceanView Park on TV last week!!! I went there during filming too and got Mike Conners and Martin Landau's autographs! If I remember correctly one of the reasons they closed and sold that park was safety concerns...especially that old wooden coaster. I believe when they blew that thing up for the finale it wouldn't come down and they ended up having to pull it down with dozers and cables, simulating the explosions!

Silverthorns Dance Studio (I drummed for the twirling core)
Jones Jr High ( Jr High with a planetarium)!
Hampton Fair Days at Gosnold's Hope Park
Green Grunts football for Phillips elementary and my coach who WAS Sgt Carter from Gomer Pyle (name escapes me now)
Childress Gas station brother lived next door to us in Fox Hill (Dave and Linda Childress)

sure more will follow...this is great! TONS of awesome memories

I remember not being able to find Hampton! Not that it wasn't always there, but my mother had a rotten sense of direction.
It was back in 1954 and we were looking for a prom dress. Our only excursions in the direction of Hampton had been to Langley Field Commissary and crabbing in the creeks at Fox Hill or trips to Buckroe. We had never been to "downtown" Hampton.
Back then Mercury Boulevard was a 2 lane stretch of potholes.
The trip to Fox Hill seemed endless to a youngster. I couldn't wait to see the miniature stone lighthouses on the lawns; then I knew we were near our destination. We'd use chicken necks on a string and net the crabs as they came to feed. We could fill a peach basket in less than an hour. Then came the DDT which contaminated the creeks.
The amusement park was great, but for swimming we went to Grandview.

well you can't go to Granview anymore (unless you buy a house) and now that BUCKROE is a public beach it will soon be like the public beach at FIRST street. NO PARKING. so if you are a Hampton Voter please sign the petition.

Yo, Howard, I'm on your side. I've got three sheets filled and notarized already. All you say is true and sad. Just remembering the good old days ... slow paced, relaxed, but mostly, available to all.

Why not plan go back to school? Choose to study a subject that will change your direction in life. You may be limited in the short term, but overall it will be worth your while. You will be emotional about money matters if you let cash slip through your fingers, but a romantic evening of cultural pursuits will restore your soul.
