Yes, Doust, my guns were designed to kill. And if I see you on the day I'm told to turn them in, I'll kill you.

When guns are outlawed, "Liberal" season must begin.

Australian Crime Facts & Figures 2006
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2006...

"The percentage of homicides committed with a firearm CONTINUED A DECLINING TREND WHICH BEGAN IN 1969. In 2003, fewer than 16% of homicides involved firearms. The figure was similar in 2002 and 2001, down from a high of 44% in 1968."

- Page 24

Their 'ban' started in 1996, so that means the 'ban' had NOTHING to do with the ALREADY FALLING homicide rate:

"Australian crime : facts and figures 2004

"Trend in firearm homicides

"Figure 11: Homicide involving firearms as a percentage of total homicide, 1915-2002"
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2004...

"What this chart shows

"The percentage of homicides committed with a firearm continued a declining trend since 1969. In 2002, just under 16% of homicides involved firearms. The figure was similar in 2001, down from a high of 44% in 1968."

In FACT, many OTHER CRIME RATES ROSE DIRECTLY BECAUSE OF THE 'ban', DIDN'T THEY?

Pay close attention to the REAL murder stats and ASSAULT RATE. There are OTHER INTERESTING "FACTS" in the report from JACK@SSES OWN COVERNMENT as well. Start around Page 18...

For instance:

"Trend in assault

"Figure 18: Assaults, by month, 1995–2005 (number)

The trend in assaults shows an average growth of 6% each year between 1995 and 2005. THIS IS THREE TIMES THE ANNUAL GROWTH OF THE AUSTRALIAN POPULATION OVER THE SAME PERIOD.

"Assault is seasonal. The number of assaults peak in the spring and summer months of October to February, and is lowest during April to July...."

But here's what happened in Australia just one year after gun owners were forced to surrender their means of protection. By the way, "disarming" Australia cost the taxpayers $500 million.

OBSERVABLE FACTS, AFTER 12 MONTHS OF DATA:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%
Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44%(yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT)
In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are up 300%
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of- the-elderly
At the time of the ban, the Prime Minister said "self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm"

"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist
program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

[Ed. note: Norman Thomas and Gus Hall, the U.S. Communist Party Candidate, both quit American politics, agreeing that the Republican and Democratic parties by 1970 had adopted every plank on the Communist/Socialist and they no longer had an alternate party platform on which to run.]

Good thing that you are NOT an 'NRA' member:

"The National Rifle Association has been in support of workable, enforceable gun control legislation since its very inception in 1871."

—NRA Executive Vice President Franklin L. Orth. NRA's American Rifleman Magazine, March 1968, P. 22.

"The NRA supported The National Firearms Act of 1934 which taxes and requires registration of such firearms as machine guns, sawed-off rifles and sawed-off shotguns.... NRA support of Federal gun legislation did not stop with the earlier Dodd bills. It currently backs several Senate and House bills which, through amendment, would put new teeth into the National and Federal Firearms Acts."

“...As a matter of official policy, NRA does not call for the BATF to be abolished. In fact, the Association does not object to many of the federal laws against violent criminal behavior committed with firearms that BATF is charged with enforcing. Since we support certain federal laws relative to firearms, it only stands to reason that we would not promote abolishing the federal agency tasked with enforcing those laws....”

“...Furthermore, it has long been NRA's position that a greater emphasis should be placed on enforcing existing laws that target violent gun crimes. In fact, NRA spent much of the eight years under Bill Clinton admonishing his Department of Justice for its failure to aggressively prosecute violent criminals who are caught violating federal gun laws. As part of that campaign, NRA began promoting the "Project Exile" prosecution model. In case you were not already aware, Project Exile is a cooperative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutors that calls for the full prosecution of violent gun crimes....”

Those who say "it can't happen here" are totally oblivious to historical FACT;
http://gunshowonthenet.com/SecondAmend/GunCon...

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

1932-33 Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin's 'government' sponsered famine, causing the deaths of 7 to 10 million in the Ukraine.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

1937-38 Japanese soldiers 'Rape' Nanking province of China, causing the deaths of 300,000.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 6 million Jews and countless others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.(Some estimates bring the total closer to 13 million!).

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Pol Pot's Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, over 2,000,000 people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated by the Khmer Rouge.

1992-95 Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict; 200,000 dead.

1994 Rwanda, Hutu militia kill 800,000 Tutsis.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of 'gun control' or from the lack of being able to defend themselves: about

64,700,000

Spelled out, that is;

SIXTY-FOUR MILLION,

SEVEN-HUNDRED

THOUSAND PEOPLE!

There are some reports, that the total number Murdered, is actuallly MUCH HIGHER!

Michael J. Doust is way off base. Banning all guns is a retarded idea. If he can come up with a way to ban all criminal activity, his idea might make sense. If he can guarantee my personal physical safety from all criminals, his idea might make sense. Blaming a tool for an individual's choice is also retarded. I could blame a pencil for all mis-spelled words. I could blame forks for all obese people and I could blame, blame, blame, blame....... The bottom line is people make choices. The tools, however, do not.

It makes me sad to constantly see people attacking the tools of violence instead of the violence instead. Your article above really shows that you are an idiot.
Name one thing in this country that is illegal that is not available: drugs? prostitution? liquor during prohibition? By disarming the law abiding people, you leave the evil people with a serious advantage. You cannot eliminate guns totally. If you try, think what happens to the balance of power.
I have far more respect for the constitution than you. A little history lesson for you and some reading about how innovative this country was when it decided to leave the power with the people might be in order.
Maybe one day, you or a loved one will be a victim of a violent crime and you will see the err in your ways.

The risk of dying by gunshot has halved since Australian gun buy-back
Not only were Australia's post-Port Arthur gun laws followed by a decade in which the crime they were designed to reduce hasn't happened again,
*** 10 YEARS NO MASS MURDER,*** we were averaging one a year
but we also saw a life-saving bonus: the decline in overall gun deaths accelerated to twice the rate seen before the new gun laws
** firearm suicides and firearm homicides were reducing by 3 per cent (total gun death) each year until 1996,
these average rates of decline doubled to,* 6 per cent each year (total gun death),
• 7.5 per cent each year (gun homicide) following the introduction of new gun laws.
we had 47% less gun death since gun control
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/tandi2/tan...
As well as the gun death
our, all murder rate continued to fall to nearly 25% less since gun control
Murder, rate per 100k persons
1996 was 1.85
2006 was 1.40
there is annual rise and fall our murder can vary 30 a year or 0.1
down in 04 up in 06 for example. 0.1 with our small murder rate is about 14 %
2003 " 1.5
2004 " 1.3
2005 " 1.3
2006 " 1.4
Before you quote those figures, you might want to check out Snopes.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/ausgun...

It could be that the way crimes are counted, or not counted, affect those numbers to give the impression that the liberals in your government want everyone to see.

Mr. Doust –
I’ll make you a deal……you go out and collect the guns, knives, and other weapons from all the criminals, thugs, gang-bangers, rapists, robbers, car-jackers, terrorists, dope-dealers, serial killers & psychos. After doing so, all of us law abiding, honest, hard working, citizens will turn over our guns to you for destruction.
You obviously live in a fantasy world. The world is not flat; Santa Claus is not real; and the moon is not made out of green cheese.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Pisces

You should have a lucky break today when fate steps in and takes a hand. For instance, a situation may seem to be heading for disaster when you're suddenly bailed out in ways you would never have imagined. However, this doesn't mean you can take foolish risks in the hope that things will work out all right because there's no guaranteeing that they'll do so automatically.
