Jay W. when the car was invented: "Why do we need these internal combustion engines? Horses are just fine. Cars won't save us any time from our trips to the grocery store. They take forever to warm up in the cold, but I could just hop on my horse and take off."
a car has many uses outside of running to the store. a hand scanner has one use.. to maybe save a few minutes. Yep. same thing.

I have no problem with innovation and progress, it just needs to be something that is providing a real benefit to society. And saving 5 minutes at the grocery store at the expense of someone losing their job is not a benefit.

Yep. I come here all the time to bitch and moan.

Is it bitching and moaning when one is defending a point of view? If it is im fine with that. Its better than being you who comes on and adds nothing to a conversation or discussion.

Here's your chance- tell me why scanners are a great invention and how they will help revolutionize the retail industry and benefit the customers.

Your time might not be worth anything to you, but mine is. This device eliminates lines. I often spend more than 5 minutes on a supermarket line. But even if I give you that point that it will only save 5 minutes per trip, that means it will save me 260 minutes per year. In a little over 33 years of shopping, I will have a year of my life back. People like you don't realize that time is a valuable thing. I don't want to spend my limited time on this planet on a supermarket line, or waiting behind some idiot who won't turn right on red, or people who walk slow on sidewalks, or any other wastes of time. They add up, and put together, they rob me of my life.

If they weren’t so damn frustrating, it would be hilarious. Someone should film the idiots for Comedy Central. Occasionally, a big fat welfare momma type wanders in with the WIC card and buys all non-sale items and topnotch overpriced cuts of meat. they waddle their fat a55es to the register and argue every price with the cashier, insisting that everything is on sale.“I knows dats bees on sale ‘cuz it done say so on da shelf. Y’all gots ta looky in **** dare circula an yous be seein’ whats I talkin’‘bout.” Makes me so pi55ed that I want to pop the fat whale with a harpoon.
Then you have the idiots who stop right in the middle of the aisle blocking the whole thing or leave the cart to wander off to God knows where. Let’s not forget the mother of three who can’t keep her crotch droppings under control or the idiot who’s yelling into the phone getting the last minute shopping from the wife. There’s also the “inspector” who feels the need to pick up every damn package of meat and give it a thorough examination before selecting nothing. All the while, the moron blocks everything so everyone has to wait. Schitt, all I want to do is get my stuff and go. Who else to pick on? Oh, the idiots who push the cart down the main aisle and stop at each and every aisle contemplating if there might be something of interest down there. Jesus H. Fukkin’ Christ, move it already.
If it weren’t for some of the hotties in the supermarkets, shopping would be a total loss. It’s no wonder why so many times I’ll do my shopping at 4-5AM when the store’s empty.
Have I missed anything? It looks like everyone’s got something to b|tch about with shopping.
This has gone from the “hand scanner” forum to the “shopping gripe” forum.
Stop and Shop offers online grocery shopping (Pea Pod division). They even deliver it to your home. You will never have to have human contact again.

I could, but will they still offer sale items?
It's actually funny to see the different types in supermarkets. Keeps me confident of why things are so messed up these days.

Peapod charges whatever the price is in the store, sales included and they take coupons. the only difference is a $5 fee for the service

Remember that everytime you use the self check out or these scanners, there will be less need to have a human prescence.
So remember that these "improvements" will be at the cost of jobs
Very true.
Rocky Point Waldbuams cashiers are a blast! Great conversations and lots of laughs every time I shop. Thanks for your smiles!
