Hey, I remember that store! I can't recall the name of it as we lived on the west side of Dull-town but we rode bikes all over the darn place. I went in that store one time, to buy candy, as a kid. The lady didn't recognize me and started asking questions, like if I was diabetic or had anything else where I shouldn't be eating candy or sugar sweetened stuff! I guess it was a different era back then. People seemed to look after each other-and kids-a bit more back then.

Remember that guy, walking around Riverdale singing his songs? He could even rattle off all the 50 states in alphebetical order upon request!

Model Foods grocery store and running across and over the roof! The old water tower behind it & climbing up that rickety old ladder.
The McDonalds at the Little Cal & Sibley, when all they had was a "to-go" counter (no seating at all).
Witch's Woods. Farmers field. Farm Stands and onion fields in South Holland.
John's Pizza, Sambo's, Cavellini's.
When Indiana Av & Sibley Blvd had a gas station on all 4 corners.
South of Sibley & Indiana Ave was like being "in the country and out of the city."

model foods & cavellini.s great call dusty. do you remember art's roller rink before mickey dee;s opened on sibley. how about rubes spotsmans club harvey. there was also a supper club and bar at 138th indiana by the tracks ? before it became carmens.

This is so refreshing to read. While I grew up in Harvey, a lot of these postings brings back so many memories. Most of the posting here are negitive with a lot of anger over things going on in the communities, which are important, but seeing this just put a huge smile on my face!!

How about the drive in show, LouArt's drive in, and there was a SuperBurger with curly fries at 138th & Halsted.

cavalinis villa nova, I was a dish washer there. pepes tacos, i was a busboy. lived at 144th and kimbark. loved it.

i loved johns pizza at sibley and chicago rd. do you remember the pizza hut ( before it burned down )? i remember hanging out at brunetti's pizza on halstead as a teenager. does anyone remember 'teentown' in pacesetter in riverdale? where kids could go and hang out and listen to local garage bands?

i bought my first house right on chicago rd. by quants ace hardware. they employed all the old guys. retirees, i guess. these guys could tell you how to fix about anything around the house. then kurt bought the place and got rid of these guys and replaced them with kids that couldn't find their asses with both hands.

another one, papa damiani's pizza. i think they're still there...and brown's funeral home. we buried both my parents out of there.

I don't think so. Panazzo's was on 142nd Street east of Kaiser Aluminum...almost closer to the cloverleaf. Maybe on 142nd and Minerva???

I remember when Brunetti's was there on Halsted near the Little Cal. I can't remember "teentown" in Pacesetter, but I do remember the park district had a nice swimming pool there!

I remember going into Art's to bowl as a kid a couple of times. I've heard of Rube's, but that was from friends of mine who lived in Harvey years ago. I believe that Carmen's was "Dave's Place" and some of my friends had parents who worked there on weekends Part time. It later became Franco's after Carmen's. There was also a VFW Hall next door to there too and the boat store was on the other side of Franco's.

I think I'm in love :) We moved from Dolton 20 years ago, we lived across the street from Kurt's Ace Hardward, but the thing I think about most is Papa Damiani's pizza. Lou was like part of the family.

Yes, I remember Art's and going to the "Kiddy Park" there. I also believe that Carmen's was Dave's Place. There might have been a Foremost Liquors or some other liquor store there too.

granite: you must have been one of my neighbors. i left there 20 years ago myself. do you remember when A C printing was a bike shop? i remember going there for parts and those 'really cool' decals we put on our bikes when i was a kid.
